《WALKER》NINETEEN

"Keep him here." I told Elliot and Noah before I headed into the house. I thought she said it was her dad that left her. She never mentioned having a grandfather.
I found Xelia standing in the kitchen with her bow and arrow in hand.
"You know about that man?" I asked her and she nodded in fear.
"He says he's Faith's grandfather." She said and I nodded.
"Where's Hunter?" I asked angrily.
"He just said he was going out. He hasn't returned." Xelia said and I clenched my jaw before going upstairs.
"Faith!" I called and she unlocked the door. I pulled her into a tight hug before taking her face into my hands.
"Do you remember what your daddy looked like?" I asked her and she nodded. "Will you be able to tell if you see him again?" I asked and she nodded again.
I took her hand into mine before walking downstairs with her. A huge part of me wishes that it's not her dad or grandfather because I can't lose her and the other part of me wants her to be happy and with her family.
I opened the front door and the man's eyes widened when he saw Faith.
"Daddy!" She yelled excitedly. She wasted no time and ran up to him. The man cried as he hugged her and I bit back my own tears. It is her dad. Xelia rubbed my back and I clenched my jaw before looking at Elliot.
"So now what?" Elliot asked angrily.
"Now I take Faith home." The old man replied.
"Home?" Elliot asked angrily.
"Yes, you kidnapped my daughter. Do you know what you put me through?" He asked angrily.
"Is she your daughter or your grand daughter?" I asked angrily and the old man looked at me in disbelief.

"I'm her grandfather not that it's any of your business. Those monsters- my daughter Freya, I lost her during the fifth wave." The man said painfully.
"It's always just been Faith, Freya and me. Even before all this." He said and I realized what he meant. Her real dad was never in her life so he took the role since he's her grandfather.
"We have to go." The man insisted.
"Elliot." I said desperately and Elliot clenched his jaw.
"Come with us." Elliot suggested and I nodded.
"We can give you anything you want." I said desperately.
"I wanna stay with Rose." Faith said sadly and I felt a knot forming in my throat.
"Please." Noah said and the man placed Faith on the ground.
"We took care of Faith. She's healthy and we can take care of you too. You're getting old and as they say it takes a community to raise a child." Elliot said and the man nodded a bit hesitantly.
"Okay." He said and a tear rolled down my cheek.
"Thank you." I said gratefully and he just nodded at me. I don't trust him but I'm grateful for his decision. Noah picked Faith up into his arms and I pulled Elliot aside.
"Hunter is gone." I told Elliot and he frowned.
"What do you mean gone?" He asked in confusion.
"According to Xelia he's been gone since this morning." I said and Elliot raised a single eyebrow.
"According to Xelia? That sounds pretty fucking convenient. How do we know she didn't do something to him?" Elliot asked angrily.
"What?" I asked in confusion.
"Don't tell me you trust her." Elliot said and I sighed.
"Let's just go look for him." I said and Elliot just blankly looked at me before going over to Noah and Faith.

"I'm Bill." The old man said while holding his hand out to me.
"Rosaleigh." I said and he nodded. I spotted a wound on his arm so I frowned.
"You're hurt." I said and he looked down at his arm. "Let me help you." I said and he frowned.
"Okay." He said a bit hesitant.
"Relax, I'm a doctor." I said and he nodded slowly. "I went to med school and I was a camp doctor, you know before the sixth wave. I did all my training there." I said and the man nodded.
"I thought everyone from the camps were dead along with the army." He said and I shook my head.
"My friends helped me out before it happened. They promised they'd come back but they never did." I said before breathing out a laugh. "They did show up recently however so I guess they kept their promise." I said and the man just nodded while I cleaned his wound.
"Xelia can you get Bill some water please?" I asked and she placed her weapon down before doing as I asked her to.
"Do you ever wonder- what are we still doing this for?" Bill asked tiredly. "I mean everything's gone yet we're still fighting like our lives depends on it." He said and I nodded.
"I'm fighting for us. Fight for life because that's all we have." I said and he nodded as Xelia handed him a glass of water.
"Did Hunter say where he was going?" I asked and Xelia shook her head while eyeing Bill suspiciously.
"And he went out the back?" I asked and she nodded.
"We're all going out to look for him after lunch." I told her and she sighed.
"I'm coming right?" She asked wildly and I nodded.
"Yes you can come." I said and she calmed down before nodding.
"Okay." She said so I rubbed her arm before going back outside. Faith ran into my arms so I swung her around in the air.
"I missed you buttercup." I said before placing a kiss on her forehead.
"I missed you too Rosaleigh." She said before hugging me tightly and I smiled broadly. I couldn't survive a day without this kid.
"Uh Ro, we should get going. Hunter- he wouldn't just disappear without saying anything, right?" Elliot asked and I nodded before placing Faith on the ground.
"Are we all going?" I asked and he shrugged. "We can all go, we can take the truck or something." I said and Elliot frowned.
"Don't you think that'll attract the rotters? We're gonna have to stop a lot, we should walk- it's safer." He said and I nodded before going outside to the others.
We grabbed some flashlights and our weapons before walking through the gates. The streets were dark and empty. This doesn't make sense.
Why would Hunter just disappear?
Elliot was holding Faith's hand as we all quietly searched the streets for Hunter. We continued to search for another thirty minutes.
"Where would he have gone, how could he have gone this far, his leg-" Noah started and Xelia let out a loud scream. We all looked to where she was looking and my axe dropped from my hand.
