《WALKER》FOUR

"Wakey wakey!" I said before pulling Faith's covers open. "Go take a shower." I said and she nodded before going into her bathroom.
I got up two hours ago to prep for our trip into town. I can't risk forgetting anything, it could cost us our lives. I ran my hand over my face as I heard the shower running.
I put out some warm clothes for Faith. These clothes belonged to Paige. I can't bare the thought of her being gone. She was so small, only eight years old.
Anyway I have to focus on the mission.
I went downstairs before lifting the shield. The fog has disappeared which means we're good to go.
"All we have is now." I said under my breath. Noah used to say that. I closed my eyes biting back my tears before preparing the last slice of bread for Faith.
After a few minutes she came dribbling downstairs.
"Eat your breakfast." I said and she thanked me before starting to eat.
"Thank you." She said when she was done and I nodded.
"Do you have your knife?" I asked and she nodded. "Put your backpack on." I said and she did as I told her to.
I grabbed my own backpack before placing it on my back, I placed my gun into its holster before grabbing my axe and walking over to the door.
I handed Faith a mask to put on before putting my own one on. I unlocked the door before exiting the house. Looks like it's gonna rain later. I locked the door behind us before putting my keys into my jacket pocket.
"Alright jog!" I told Faith and we jogged over to my dad's green Jeep. We jumped inside before locking the doors.
"Seatbelt!" Faith said and I smiled at her.
"That was my line." I said and she laughed a little before turning the tape on. I found some of my old one direction CDs and Faith knows all the songs by heart now.

She started singing along with Harry as I started the engine. I started driving into town while nervously tapping the steering wheel.
I watched the passing walkers in the street, I can't believe those things used to be people. The music covered the sound of their groans and Faith seems used to it by now. Poor thing was born into this twisted modern world.
As we reached the gate to town I stopped the car. I climbed out before holding my hands in the air.
The gate went open after a few seconds and I sighed before getting back in the car and driving through the gate. Faith shot me a nervous glance so I gave her a reassuring smile.
"You listen to me, stay close. Under no circumstances are you allowed to leave my side." I said harshly. "These are bad men and if I lose you from my sight they can hurt you." I said and Faith nodded in fear.
"What are the rules?" I asked her and she gulped nervously. I slacked through the streets before looking over at Faith.
"What are the rules?" I repeated but harsher this time.
"Don't make any eye contact. Stay by your side at all times. And if something happens to you, I run." She said and I clenched my jaw.
"What's the last one?" I asked and she looked at me in fear.
"If- if you get bit by a walker, I have to put you down." She said and I bit my tears back before nodding.
"It won't be easy kid but it's for your own safety." I said in a strained voice before stopping at the gas station. "Stay in the car." I said and she nodded.
I jumped out before locking the door. I looked around me and spotted a few men in the store, watching me like hawks. I started refilling my tank up before the door to the store opened.

I clenched my jaw when I was done filling the tank. The man came walking up to me before looking at me from head to toe.
"Aren't you Joel's kid?" He asked and my eyes widened at the sound of my dad's name.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said shortly.
"I can tell, I'd know Joel's kid anywhere." The man said and I walked towards my car door. "Last time I heard your folks were heading South." He said so I looked back at him.
"I said I don't know what you're talking about. Now piss off." I said before opening my car door.
The man grabbed my wrist before pressing his fingers into my skin and I clenched my jaw in pain before punching him in the abdomen. I kicked him in the stomach causing him to stammer backwards.
"I said piss off." I said angrily before spitting on the ground next to him and getting back in the car. I locked the doors before speeding off.
"Dick!" I cussed under my breath.
"Are you okay?" Faith asked nervously.
"I'm fine. I just didn't get the chance to fill the tanks up for the generators." I said angrily.
"What did the man want?" Faith questioned and I sighed.
"Nothing, he's just another oxygen thief." I said before driving down to the grocery store. I parked in the lot before jumping out of the car.
I waited for Faith to grab her backpack before locking the door.
"Do you have your knife?" I asked and she nodded. I took her hand into mine before walking into the large store in front of us.
A large built man stopped us at the front before holding his hand out. I opened my backpack before taking the Xanax out and placing it into his open hand. Five bottles just like last time and they let us take whatever we want.
The man nodded and we headed to our first isle. I added a bunch of canned foods into our basket. We take only what lasts longer. We stopped at the pharmacy when we were done with the food.
The familiar face behind the counter made my heart pound faster than usual. My grip on Faith's hand tightened.
"Can you give me some alcohol and some bandages?" I asked under my breath and the man gave me a smug smile.
"Looks like you haven't learnt your lesson yet." He said in a sickening tone. He looked down at Faith so I pushed her behind me.
"Just give me the supplies and we won't bother you again." I said and he nodded before showing his rotten teeth.
"Keep an eye on the little one. She could be useful to many of the town's folks." He said and I flared my nostrils.
"She? This is my little brother." I said and the man laughed.
"No shit!" He said in disbelief. "Well pardon me little fella." He said and I glared up at him. He slid the medical supplies across the counter and as I reached for it he grabbed ahold of my hand.
"If I see you around these parts of town again, I will let all my men fuck you until you're passed out." He whispered into my ear and I bit back my tears before getting my hand out of his grasp.
"I said we wouldn't bother you again." I said before grabbing the supplies and heading outside.
As I looked over to my dad's jeep I recognized the man from earlier leaning against it, and it looks like he brought his friends with him.

Blightbane
Miscellaneous Notes: - I want to see about making a crude map of Shroud to help readers. - I also want to get back to writing Coalescence updates. Schedule Notes: - None for now, updates when I can. [ Thank you for your patience and support as I improve my writing and storytelling abilities. I'm also using this story to better develop lore that extends far beyond it. ] Thanks to another exceptionally talented artist, Hiroeth, Blightbane now has an official cover! Vera was alone again. “You’re completely unprepared. Never before has sending one of you off made me feel quite so guilty.” Whenever she found herself in doubt, she would weigh her actions against the guiding principles of the one whom she revered. “When you don’t know the rules of the game, start making them up. When you are constrained by unfavorable conditions, inject a little chaos.” It was the supplementary message that concerned Vera the most. It was difficult to follow because it was intentionally vague and mired in subjectivity. “How can I enjoy myself when you look so tormented? Are we in danger?” Vera fell silent. An experiment is taking place on a planetary scale. Across the surface of the planet, a phenomenon referred to as "Blight" is spreading. Festering regions defended by fierce creatures called “blightbeasts” taint the surface, warping the land and proliferating unceasingly. Among the sentient creatures of the planet, it is the Blightbane Guild’s responsibility to stem the tide. They endeavor to cleanse the land in a struggle of attrition, but they are losing ground. A young man named Caim has been uprooted from his former life and transported to The Shrouded Theocracy, an isolationist nation with fanatical policies. He must struggle to survive with only an unfamiliar strain of magic to aid him. There is a secret to this magic. One he knows very little about. He intends to explore just what makes this magic special. On the far border of the theocracy, a mage scientist named Inis discovers a revolutionary new way to infuse strength from defeated blightbeasts. Using herself as a test subject, this process allows her to grasp magical concepts previously thought beyond her reach. Though she tries to document any side effects that arise, something escapes her awareness. She is playing with a dangerous force that will claim her most treasured asset if she isn't careful. Everyone and everything on the planet is a part of the experiment. The experiment is a lie.
