《WALKER》THREE

"Take out your knife." I whispered to Faith and she nodded before taking the knife out of it's sheat.

Just like I taught her.

"Keep your eye on the walker!" I said and she nodded before slowly walking forward. "Be quiet." I reminded her and she placed her foot on the rock in front of her before pushing her body up and sticking the knife into the scarecrow's head.

"Good job kid!" I said before giving her a high five and she smiled at me.

"I got him Rose!" She yelled and I chuckled.

"Let's head inside for dinner." I said and she jogged up to the house. I looked around me and frowned at the fog closing in on us.

I ran into my family house before shutting the doors. I pushed the little red button and the titanium shield went up, placing the house under lockdown.

I switched the lights on before sighing tiredly. That's the same fog that spread seven years ago. The government tried to cover it up but everyone knows it was them.

They wanted to put an end to humanity and they succeeded. Now all that's left are the helpless and the monsters, I think I'm somewhere in between.

When Faith and I got to my family home the place was completely empty. It's clear that nobody has been here in at least five years.

Which a good and bad thing, the good thing is I figured that we could stay here during the winter, the bad thing is that I have to assume that everyone in my family died along with the rest of humanity.

"Faith!" I called and she came dribbling downstairs. "Did you wash your hands?" I asked her and she nodded.

"Set the table." I said and she obeyed by grabbing some plates from the cupboard. I lit the gas stove with a single match before placing a pan on it.

I cracked our last two eggs in the pan before cooking them and adding salt to it. When I was done I removed the pan from the stove before placing the eggs on our plates. I spread butter on four slices of butter before adding it to our plates.

I checked the fridge and took out the can of Pepsi that I've been saving. Faith has never tasted a soft drink before so I saved it for a special day.

I opened the can before pouring it into our glasses.

"Happy birthday, kid." I said and she smiled excitedly before taking the glass into her hands and gulping the drink down. Today faith is officially a nine year old.

"It's good, right?" I asked and she nodded her head so I took a sip out of my glass. "It's been a while." I said before smiling in content.

"Listen, kid we have to run some errands tomorrow." I said and Faith's eyes widened.

"But Rose, they almost got us last time." She said and I nodded.

"I know but they didn't. I handled it, look we need food and fuel for the generators to run. And on top of that we need medical supplies." I said and Faith nodded.

"Okay." She said against her will.

"I'll protect you, kid. Always." I said and she came over to hug me.

"You're the best Rosaleigh." She said and I smiled at her.

"I know but you're not supposed to say it out loud." I said and she laughed. I sucked in a nervous breath as I knew what awaited us tomorrow on our errand run.
