《KATANA ~ a MHA fanfic》Chapter 10 - Familiar words

Look, it's dark and you've both been drinking tonight. I don't know what's going on inside your heads but we sure aren't any fighters." Katana said as calmly as possible, hoping they would buy the act.
"I know it was you, stop pretending. It was the same fighting style." the red and white haired man said and stepped closer.
The snow haired assassin sighed.
"What agency do you work for?" the crimson eyed man finally spoke.
Everyone looked at him perplexed.
"If you were after Shigaraki, I don't believe you're the bad guys. So, I'll ask again. What agency do you work for?"
The green eyed assassin must've sensed how stressed out her sister was cause she suddenly stood up straight with a dead serious face. She had been doing this for 12 more years than Katana and knew how to handle these kinds of situations.
"We can't tell you. It's a secret operation only a few know of. They made sure to pick people that are not known to the public to avoid attention. You are not to ask about it since you're not even a part of the investigation anymore." Anna spoke.
Her argument and acting was so good that even Katana believed her. She was surprised that her green eyed sister could even remember so many details about the mission while drunk. Amazing.
The two pros looked at each other, almost ashamed that they doubted them.
"My apologies, I should have recognised that fighting style as something advanced used only by the best." the heterochromia eyed man said with his head down.
"It's alright. It must be hard for you to have to sit this case out..." Katana answered and walked towards him. She was feeling bad for him yet again, never had she seen someone so broken and lost. She put a hand over his cheek.

"But I can promise you that we'll do our best to find out what happened to your friend, and take down the league of villains while doing so."
Katana genuinely meant what she said. They weren't her enemies. She walked up to the angry looking pro and put a hand on his shoulder.
"You too, I know you miss her just as much. We'll bring her home."
The two heroes couldn't get a word out. They just watched as the girls disappeared into the night.
Bakugo sighed.
"I don't trust them. I was told not to be on the case anymore just an hour ago, no way they could've known."
"What? Then why didn't you stop them, Bakugo?" Todoroki said with a confused look. He walked towards the ash blonde.
The crimson eyed man took a deep breath, like he was bracing himself for whatever he was about to say to his coworker.
"I can't explain it, but... I think they know what happened to Zella, maybe even have something to do with it."
The half-cold half-hot quirk user was about to say something but was signalled not to as the man in front of him continued.
"The way the brown haired girl said - take down the league of villains...I..." the ash blonde paused, feeling a lump in his throat.
"The last words Zella said to me, before she... were - The pros will get us out of here soon and take down the league of villains, we just gotta hold on. The next thing I knew we were held in separate rooms and then the whole thing went down."
"Bakugo I... I never knew." Todoroki went and put his hand on his shoulder. It's the closest thing to a hug you'll give Bakugo...

"We have to find out more about them, maybe even work together." the ash blonde continued.

The girls had arrived home and as always, they both passed out on their beds immediately.
Suddenly, she felt a strong headache kick in. At first she thought it was the alcohol from before but it just got more intense by the second, so it couldn't be.
"Another vision?" the white haired girl thought and tried to remain calm even though she knew that it was going to hurt soon.
And she was right.
The headache was even worse than the last one. But since she was prepared this time, she didn't scream. Instead, she tried her best to walk to the living room to avoid waking her sister up.
"Hi! I like your hair, let's be friends!"
She saw someone approaching a kid. He had big purple eyes and fluffy same coloured hair. He looked alone and bullied. The person in the vision just grabbed his hand and walked towards the playground.
Suddenly, Katana was somewhere else in her vision. The person looked to their left and saw... the same boy? But he was a tiny bit older now... So this meant the person in the visions was getting older too?
"If only I knew what or who these visions were about." the white haired girl thought and held on to her head, hoping this would be over soon.
They were sitting in a classroom. It was fairly quiet, only a little chit chat was heard. That was until an ash blonde boy came in. Why is he yelling at 8 in the morning?
The headache got worse as he yelled. It was very muffled, the assassin couldn't really focus on what he was saying because of how focused she was on the pain. But the words she could get out of it were-
"SHUT UP YOU QUIRKLESS LOSER!"
In a second, the vision ended and so did the pounding headache. Katana gasped for air as it did and sat on the floor. She still didn't understand what was going on. The only person she could see clearly was the purple haired boy. Maybe he had something to do with her visions and that's why she could see him clearly, she thought.
But why would- and how could he do that? Was he even a kid?
Katana picked up her phone from her room and dialled a number. Surprisingly, someone picked it up after only a few seconds.
"Hey, I need you to find out everything you can about..." Katana started to tell the person on the other line about the purple haired boy. From a description of his appearance to what the classroom looked like.
The person she had called was one of the most trusted and skilled assassins back home. He was known for his outstanding research skills, he could find out everything about anyone, and do it fast. Anything you said to him would also just stay between you two.
After the phone call, the white haired girl drank a glass of water and went straight back to sleep.

*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
