《The List》(24)

As I opened my eyes, I tensed. Someone was lying on top of me. Thoughts of last night came rushing back to me as I looked down at who it was that was invading my space.
I ate Alani's pussy and fingered her last night, right before she sucked my dick.
That's not something friends did.
It felt so good, though, being that close to her. It was intimate and exciting, getting to know her and her body like that. Hands down, it was the best sexual experience I had ever had.
I had conflicting feelings about last night, but as she lay snuggled up to me, naked, I knew that what happened last night could never happen again.
I couldn't be with her. People break up all the time, and I didn't know what I would do without her in my life. Alani had come into my world and completely turned it upside down, and I didn't want it to go back to the way it was before.
I hoped she felt the same way.
The warm body in my arms began to stir as I braced myself for what was about to be a super complicated and awkward discussion.
"Hi," She said as she moved to look up at me with a smile on her face. Was she happy about last night and not at all worried? I knew I was pleased about last night too, but I didn't let it show like she was, and I knew ultimately, even though it felt amazing, it was a bad idea and couldn't continue.
"Hi," I said. Morning afters had never been my favorite thing, and with Alani, it was a hundred times more excruciating, but for different reasons than all my others. With other girls, it was painful because I didn't want to hurt their feelings when I said I didn't want to date them. (Even though they already knew that beforehand.) With Alani, it was because I cared about her, and I didn't want her to hate me or get her heart broken.

"How long have you been up?" Alani said, rubbing her eyes.
"Not long," I said as she snuggled deeper into my chest.
"Good morning," She said, and I could feel her tangle her legs with mine.
"Good morning," I said, hesitantly wrapping an arm around her.
"You're warm."
"So are you," I said, enjoying the moment that was about to be ruined.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"Alani, I think we should talk about last night," I said.
"Okay," She said, sitting up as the blanket wrapped around her fell, exposing her breasts and causing my dick to twitch.
"Alani," I said, motioning toward her chest.
"Nothing you didn't see last night," She joked, wrapping the blanket back around her body.
"Alani, what happened last night can't happen again," I stated bluntly as the smile immediately vanished from her face.
"What?"
"I don't think it's a good idea."
"Why?"
"I don't want to hurt our friendship by complicating things."
"Did you not enjoy last night?" She said with a sad look on her face. I wanted to hug her and tell her last night was one of the best nights of my life, but that wasn't a good idea.
"That's not it at all!" I exclaimed.
"Then what is it?"
"It's just-"
"Just what?"
"I can't lose you, and I'm afraid if this happens again, that I might."
"So you just want to pretend that last night never happened?"
"Yes," I said. It would take some time, but things could eventually go back to normal.
"I don't know if I can do that."
"You have to try."
"I'm ready to leave," Alani demanded, grabbing her bra and shirt.

"Okay," I said as she pulled her clothes on.
We both got dressed in silence, trying not to look at each other or bump into one another while we scrambled to get our clothes on, which was hard to do in a small tent. After packing up the tent and other camping supplies in silence, we walked to the car.
It was quiet on the drive home as Alani spent most of the ride looking out the window. "Alani?" I said as we pulled up to her dorm building.
"What?" She said.
"Are we doing anything tomorrow?"
"I'll call you," She said before slamming the door.
"Is Daniel home?" I asked Nelson and Victor as I walked into our house.
"No, why?"
"Cause he's a douchebag."
"What do you mean?"
"He's telling everyone that he slept with Alani when he didn't."
"Are you sure he's telling people that?"
"He told me to my face that he fucked her, and Alani said they didn't. I believe Alani."
"What are you going to do?" Victor asked.
"Tell him to get out of this house," I said while, in reality, I wanted to beat the crap out of him.
"You can't do that. He signed a lease."
"Are you serious?"
"Do you not know how rental agreements work?"
"Then I'm moving," I said.
"Where will you go?"
"I'll get an apartment."
"Calm down. Don't be so hasty. Maybe we can talk this through. Maybe you misunderstood."
"There's nothing to misunderstand!"
The door opened as Daniel walked in. We all looked in his direction.
"What?" He asked, confused as to why we were all looking at him.
"You're a dick," I said.
"Woah. What do you mean?"
"You lied."
"Lied about what?"
"About sleeping with Alani."
"You talked to her?"
"Yeah," I snarled.
"It's not a big deal," He said, trying to calm me down.
"You don't lie about things like that."
"Chill, man."
"So you admit that you didn't sleep with her?"
"Whatever," He said, walking upstairs and leaving me fuming.
"I'm moving," I said before going upstairs to pack. I spent the rest of the night packing my stuff and searching for apartments. The closest option was thirty minutes away, but there was no way that I was staying in this house, so I put in an application.
After, I sat waiting for Alani to call so we could schedule our next outing.
She never called.

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
