《Pantala High School》Sundew 2

Sundew wanted to put off going home for as long as possible.
After school, she wandered over to the greenhouse next to the school. It was warm and steamy inside and the plants shone with perspiration.
Careful to latch the door behind her, Sundew wandered around until she found her favourite corner. It had a small stone bench and was encompassed by large leafy plants with streaks of yellow, blue and red on them.
Sundew dropped her back pack on the stone bench and pulled her hair back with a green scrunchie. She sat, and started doing her homework.
The greenhouse provided the perfect atmosphere for her and hours passed as she worked in dutiful silence. Eventually, she looked at her watch and knew if she stayed out much longer, she wouldn't have time to take care of her plants at home. She packed up her stuff and retied her hair. As she left the building, she sent the plants a silent goodbye before closing the door. Sundew sighed, plants are so much easier than people.
When she was three houses away from her's, Sundew ran into Cobra Lily.
Cobra Lily was very cool, if you asked Sundew. She was seventeen and had half of her strawberry blonde hair cut close to her head and the other side only just past her chin. She had green eyes and light skin. She had two earrings in each ear, one dark green and the other a rhubarb pink. She generally wore an expression of extreme nonchalance, but Sundew knew she had a mischievous side. She wore a light green tank top with the word 'POISON' printed in black on it. She was wearing black sweatpants with a magenta stripe down each side. She was was listening to music with white headphones.
"Hey, Sundew. What are you doing out and about?" She said coyly.

Sundew tried to mimic her breezy tone. "Just came back from the greenhouse, actually. You?"
"Oh, you know, getting away from other people for a while. If your day was as tiring as mine, you know what I mean." She smiled a half smile, her eyes half closed. "Have you seen? The new family, I mean. They just moved here and live close to your house. They'll probably be in school tomorrow."
Sundew wasn't that interested. She glanced where Cobra Lily was pointing but didn't look too hard. Looking down at her watch, Sundew said, "I should go. Catch you tomorrow."
"You always have." Cobra Lily said, continuing on the walk that Sundew interrupted.
On the drive way of her house, Sundew stopped and looked down the street. Now she remembered, there was a house with a moving truck infront of it. Well, the truck was gone and no one was outside. Sundew shook her head. If she wanted to meet them she could do it tomorrow.
Although she said this in her head, she found herself wandering in that direction, until she was in front of the house in question. Light came from some of the windows, they were probably getting ready for supper.
Sundew walked back to her house and reluctantly stepped through the door. She was suddenly hit by a multitude of smells, none very pleasant.
Belladonna was not the greatest cook. She would happily let her husband, Hemlock, do most of the cooking, but as he would be gone all week, she was forced to make a move. Sundew really couldn't complain, as she was about as gifted in the culinary arts as her mother. She would happily eat take out all week if her mother would let her.
"What died in here?" Sundew said as she closed the door behind her. "My appetite, among other things." She muttered the second part to herself.

"Ha ha." Belladonna said mockingly. "Set the table."
Sundew skipped up the stairs and emerged into her bedroom. The walls and her bed was a pale green and plants were everywhere. In the windows, the corners, the shelves, and her desk were full of different kinds of leafy plants. Her room smelled fresh and she went to close her window. She left it open if the weather permitted and closed it during the night. She went around and gave water to the plants that needed it and straightened up her shelves, full of books and posters that followed the theme of her room.
"Sundew! Am I eating by myself tonight?" Belladonna hollered from downstairs.
"I wish." She said grumpily to a venus fly trap on her desk. But she stomped back downstairs and roughly put two bowls and spoons on the table.
Belladonna spooned a thick brown stew into both bowls and Sundew sniffed it suspiciously. She tasted it hesitantly, it was horribly over seasoned and it left an oily taste in her mouth. She found she was not as hungry as she thought.
"I'm going to go to bed early tonight." Sundew hurriedly went upstairs and drank a whole cup of water to rinse the taste of pepper out of her mouth.
After she caught her breathe, she stared out her window in the direction of the newly moved into house.
After five minutes, Sundew humphed, and went to bed.
