《Pantala High School》Sundew 1

Sundew was not in the mood to go to school that day. Not only was her mother, Belladonna, working from home today, but her father, Hemlock, had just left town on a business trip and wouldn't be back all week. Not that she missed her father, or he missed her, but the tolerated each other. They knew how to stay out of each other's way, and could go through the day normally and hardly share words. Belladonna, on the other hand...
"About time you showed up." Belladonna said as Sundew groggily came down the stairs, eating an omelet and working on her laptop on the couch. She was sturdily built, with broad shoulders and strong legs. She had tanned olive skin that would've been pretty if it was on someone else. She had dark straight hair that was held behind a black headband and done up in a bun. She was wearing a green camo tank top and black leggings. Obviously she had already gotten back from the gym.
Sundew looked at her watch and silently groaned. It was 6:30 in the morning. She had slept in.
Ugh.
"Aren't you supposed to be the one who is gone all day and dad who works from home?" Sundew asked her testily. When Hemlock was home, Sundew was always first to get up. She enjoyed the half hour to herself before she needed to go to school. But Sundew was almost certain Belladonna never never slept, another thing she couldn't stand about her mother.
Belladonna pulled her eyes away from her work to scrutinize Sundew's appearance. Sundew was a wiry girl that looked older than she was, sixteen. She had wavy hazel hair that was longer than she should have liked, and the same olive skin tone as Belladonna and was the only real resemblance she had to her. Sundew had green eyes and a prominent nose. She wore a baggy dark green tee shirt with a small leaf embroidered in the bottom corner, with a black undershirt underneath. She wore a loose pair of jeans with holes in the knees and sneakers. Her hair was barely brushed.

"Do you know how to run a brush through your hair?" Belladonna said judgementally. Sundew nodded to hide her rolling eyes. She walked to the kitchen and made a peanut butter sandwich. She brushed her hair again until it shone, collected her books and homework and stuffed them into her back pack. As she was walking out the door, Belladonna called over her shoulder, "The bus isn't going to be here for another twenty minutes."
"I'll walk." Sundew answered and slammed the door behind her. She usually would wait for the bus, but she also didn't want to spend anymore time than necessary with Belladonna.
Grumpily, she started walking towards her school. It was a ten minute walk, so she would be early, early enough to check out the greenhouse before school. Sundew sighed. She doubted things would be much different at school than at home, but maybe things will be alright.
