《Growing Attached To My Competition ✔️》Chapter 15 - Reminiscing

Brody was interrupted from his sleep as he was woken up from the sunlight bursting through his bedroom window. He had forgotten to close them last night and in frustration of them causing him to wake up, he slammed the blinds shut. He checked his alarm clock and saw that it hadn't even gone off yet.

Brody groaned as the sun was still blinding him, despite the curtains providing him shade. Knowing that he had to soon get up anyway, he dragged himself out of his bed and into his en-suite bathroom.

After brushing his teeth and showering, he went into the kitchen and saw Ashley who was taking some eggs out of the boiled water.

"Morning!" Ashley cheerfully greeted him.

Brody only hummed in agreement before grabbing some orange juice from the fridge for the both of them.

"Where did you end up last night? You came home later than I did." Ashley wondered.

"Something came up."

Ashley joined Brody at the table as she served them both a plate of boiled eggs and soldiers. "Something good?"

Brody hummed in response as he started to dig into his breakfast.

The truth was that everything that happened last night was all he could think about, ever since he came back to his shared home. Brody replayed everything in his head before he fell asleep and when he woke up he thought about it all over again.

Brody was smiling in his food as he remembered everything all over again.

'Something brilliant happened last night...'

*Back to last night*

"I guess I just have a knack for it I guess. I'm just selfless and amazing like that." Brody boasted.

Brody looked on as he watched Adrian look like he was in deep thought about something.

And before he knew it, Adrian pulled him in and kissed him.

The kiss barely lasted 3 seconds before Adrian pulled away.

After crushing on Adrian for so long, Brody imagined their first kiss would be sweet yet passionate. They would look into each other's eyes, they would instantly be in sync, and then they would fall deeper for each other.

However in reality, all Brody saw in Adrian was frenzy as alarm bells were ringing inside of his head.

It looked like Adrian had physically yanked himself away from Brody as he started rambling. "Oh my god Brody I'm so sorry. That was just so wrong of me, forcing myself on you like that."

Brody was laughing at that on the inside. This moment was what Brody wanted when he first saw Adrian on the ice rink - the kissing bit and not the breaking apart bit after said kiss.

When Brody first saw Adrian, there was an immediate physical attraction. After their first encounter the more Brody got to know Adrian, the more Brody began to like him other than just on a physical scale.

He fell for the person behind the icy and competitive nature. It was the easily flustered and sheepish character, yet confident personality that brought out a sweeter side to him, to the both of them.

And as Brody spent more time with him, Brody became more confident to try and do everything to gain Adrian's attention - to try and subtly communicate with him that Brody liked him.

Taking a long time picking an outfit to impress Adrian.

The long gazes from across the room or whenever they were near each other.

The slightly unnecessary but involuntary, intimate touches.

Even taking his shirt off in front of him!

Brody fell for Adrian hard and fast.

And now that it seemed like Adrian actually liked him back. Brody was ecstatic at the same time, despite the fact that Adrian saw Brody not wear an expression in his face at this current time.

Brody watched as Adrian was pacing back and forth in front of the restaurant door. It was like he was rambling to Brody as well as himself at the same time.

"It's just that I've been having these different feelings lately, you know, and then they developed. It's like my feelings have a mind of their own and they became massive.

And it was to do with you. Not in a bad way! No, it was a good way. It's just that I think I like you, no, I KNOW I like you.

Like, after tonight I thought we made a great team, and I thought there was, like, something between us. I thought you've been flirting with me before in the past, and I didn't think about it much before. But then I did think about these little small moments between us, and I thought, maybe?"

Adrian looked back at Brody who was still trying to understand Adrian's little but big rant. Met with a silence, Adrian just continued expressing himself.

"Ok I really messed everything up... You know what, I blame Adam for all of this!"

Brody was interested in how Adam was related to any of this.

"That stupid best friend of mine convinced me to give you a chance despite you being in our rival team. He said you were a great guy and all that, not as evil as I thought you were..."

Brody chuckled to himself. 'That was your initial thought of me? We can talk more about that later...'

"You know what, Ashley is to blame for all of this as well! She's kind of the link that brought us together! Yeah! And then she told me these things you do when you like someone and I STUPIDLY thought that you did those things with me."

Brody was now also curious to know what Ashley had being saying about him to Adrian. 'How much has Ashley been over sharing?'

"And you know I've never been with anyone, and I just got all these mixed signals and crossed wires." Adrian had stopped pacing and looked at Brody. "Can we just put everything that happened in the last 5 minutes under the bridge?"

Brody laughed out loud at that. "No way!" Brody continued laughing as Adrian's face became sterner.

"You asshole! I'm just trying to help us both move on from-"

Brody finally had enough of Adrian's cute rambling and cupped the back of his head. Brody then kissed Adrian back after wanting to, for so long.

Adrian's protest was quickly muted as he melted into the kiss. Adrian's hand snuck around Brody's back as they pulled back ever so slightly, before kissing again passionately.

After a minute flew by, this time the kiss ended too quick for Adrian as Brody was the one to pull back.

"I like you too, you dork!" Brody smiled like a cat that got its cream. He was as excited as a dog chasing a bone. Brody was as happy as kid meeting Santa Claus for the first time. "I REALLY like you, Adrian."

Brody kissed Adrian again, who in return clung onto him more, deepening the kiss as the electricity in the room hit the roof.

Brody quickly pulled back. "We can talk about that little rant more later yeah?" Brody laughed at Adrian, who looked a little shy before he switched his demeanour.

Adrian silenced his laughter by crashing his lips against Brody with a quick peck in between each word. "Sure... Later... Whenever... Never..."

Adrian went in for another long kiss that did silence Brody for longer, as he just ended up smiling into the kiss instead.

While Brody was reminiscing over last night's events at breakfast, Adrian was reminiscing about last nights events in the middle of the library. Adrian was meant to be studying for an upcoming psychology test he had but clearly that was a no go.

Waking up, Adrian felt like he was floating on a cloud. After being tentative about his feelings for what felt like a long time, Adrian got what he finally wanted.

He had Brody...

Or at least that's what he thought.

That was because it hasn't even been 24 hours since they first kissed and it was way too early to outline where this relationship was going.

Was it even a relationship yet? Can it be a relationship? Will it be one?

They didn't talk about it last night as it was already getting late. They also had school the next day, so they had just decided to put it on pause for now. They hadn't defined the relationship yet or if it was just a casual thing.

Adrian didn't want to overthink it like he would normally do, but he had the impression they both wanted each other. So right now he just wanted to enjoy what he had for now.

And Adrian thought he got away with his rambling last night. However the text messages Brody has been sending him since this morning reminded him otherwise.

The first thing Adrian did was read the new text message he got in the morning when he woke up.

From Brody (7:48am): "So I heard you kissed this guy you liked last night..."

Adrian left Brody on 'read', too shy about not knowing what to reply with or what cute thing he could say back to him.

When he was walking to school he got another message from Brody.

From Brody (8:55am): "Did you really not like me when we first knew each other?"

Adrian did have a response for this message.

From Adrian (8:57am): I thought you were a cute asshole that kept tormenting me.

From Brody (8:58am): "??"

Brody was even teasing him about his confession later the same morning.

From Brody (9:27am): "So tell me again how we make good team?"

Adrian groaned when he read that message, mentally cringing at himself for over sharing at the cheesiness he said last night.

He didn't regret it though.

Maybe only just slightly...

Now he was in the library with Adam when he got another message. The last text message Adrian received was from 3 minutes ago.

From Brody (11:13am): "You're so cute..."

Adrian was blushing red at the compliment, knowing that it meant a different level now that they had kissed, and even made out a little.

Adam threw his pen at Adrian from across the table. Adrian looked back at him, confused.

"I've been watching you stupidly grin at your phone for like the past 5 mins." Adam had interrupted a giddy Adrian. "What do you have on there?"

Adam aimed to reach over but Adrian quickly retreated back with his phone. "Nothing!"

"We're meant to be revising, not playing with our phones." Adam protested.

"Okay Miss..." Adrian sarcastically replied. Adrian put his phone away, in time to see Adam text under the table.

With a quick kick to the shin, "And why are YOU on your phone?!" Adrian complained at his best friend with an equally confused expression.

Adam ignored Adrian as he finished of his text. He was the one that was now smiling on his phone, the smile easily seen by Adrian who furrowed his brows onto Adam.

Adam was about to have a serious conversation with Adrian so he put his phone away and focussed his attention onto the person across him.

"There's something that I've been hiding from you, and I feel really guilty about it." Adam announced.

Adrian waited patiently for Adam to continue. "So recently Ashley and I, we've been seeing each other a lot more recently..."

Adam looked down as he felt ashamed. "And I think that we, kind of, like each other..."

"What?" Adrian asked out of confusion rather than tension.

"You like Ashley! And I knew that, and I should have stepped away, but there's just something there, between us..." Adam looked earnestly at Adrian, hoping for some sort of assurance or a sign showing that he didn't hate him.

"Nothing has actually happened between me and Ashley, but we've been best friends for so long Adrian. I thought it was only right that I should be the one to at least tell you, before it may even go somewhere."

Adrian really did feel a mixed bag of emotions. At first he was confused.

'I like Ashley? That kind of disappeared a while ago...' Adrian honestly thought to himself.

And secondly his heart actually felt content knowing that his best friends was still trying to protect his feelings.

Adrian offered a smile to Adam. "You have my full permission to do whatever you want with Ashley."

Adam looked up at Adrian. "Really?"

Adrian backtracked slightly. "I mean with her blessing and everything of course. I also guess you have to watch out for Brody since they're like siblings and he may see you in a new light and everything, but yeah, no problems here."

Adam was grinning. "You serious? Like what's changed your mind? How did you move on?" Adam bombarded him with questions, nervous that Adrian may take his word back and regret it.

Adrian just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know, I just moved on from her I guess."

Adrian was surprised to see Adam dash up from his chair and hug him. It wasn't that often he would emotionally open himself like this in public specifically. He welcomed the gesture with open arms, but it was still unexpected.

"I really thought you would hate me..." Adam whispered.

Adrian only chuckled back. "Like I could ever hate you, loser." He attempted to joke back to lighten the mood.

Adrian looked back at his phone and saw a new message from Brody. This time it was just an emoji of a smile. Those little pixels made Adrian feel giddy with excitement.

'Oh yeah I've definitely moved on.' He thought to himself, relaxed and happy.
