Steven, Y/n and Connie are watching "Under the Knife" on the TV together in Steven's Room.
"Doctor, it's my son. There was an accident. I..."
"I know what we have to do." The doctor on the tv says. "Nurse!"
"Yes, Doctor?" A nurse on the screen says.
"Prep the patient for emergency surgery. We're gonna go... under the knife."
Connie screams happily. "Ugggggh! This show is so good! Aaah! Thank you so much for letting me watch "Under the Knife" here, Steven."
"You're welcome." Steven says cheerfully.
"How comes you can't watch the show at home?" Y/n asks Connie.
"My mom says this doesn't represent a real emergency room." Connie sighs.
"How did his legs... get into... his brain?!" The Nurse on screen says dramatically.
"Yeah, I can understand why she might say that." Y/n chuckles.
"She just doesn't understand that it's satire." Connie says now as her phone then begins to ring.
"Is that your phone?" Steven asks.
"It's probably my mom." Connie says as she retrieves her phone from her purse. "Called it." She puts on her glasses, clears her throat and answers the phone. "Hi, Mother. It's Connie. Mm-hmm. Yes, ma'am." She looks at Steven. "I'm at the home of Steven Universe. Mm-hmm. Yes, ma'am. We're...we're just hanging out. Oh... Steven's parents. They're, uh—they're in the other room. You would like to talk to Steven's mom? Oh, okay. Hold on a moment."
Steven gets worried now. "That's gonna be pretty hard since my mom gave up her physical form to make me."
Connie covers her phone with her hand. "I can't tell her that!"
Steven and Connie both run down the steps and towards Garnet, who is chilling on the couch in the living room.
"Garnet, quick! You have to pretend to be my mom to Connie's mom."
Garnet takes the phone. "Hello." She starts awkwardly. "This... is Mom Universe. Yes." She adjusts her visor. "The children are playing swords. Sorry... playing with swords. They're bleeding. Oh no, they are dead. Don't call again." She hangs up the phone and returns it to Steven. "Sorry, I panicked."
"That...could have gone better..." Y/n says knowing this was going to cause a problem.
Steven and Connie however both look shocked.
It was a few days later and Steven was chatting over the phone with Connie while dressing a cake in his kitchen.
"Aw, what do you mean, your mom won't let you come over?" Steven asks. "It's the midseason pre-finale of Under the Knife! Y/n's coming along so you have to be here to watch it with us!"
Connie was back at her home. "Steven, my parents are really upset. They say they will not let me see you again until they meet both of your parents in person."
"But that's impossible!" Steven cries.
"I know, but they want both of our families to go out together for dinner." Connie tells him now.
Steven finishes putting cheeseballs on the cake. "It sounds so... adult. I wonder if Fish Stew Pizza will take reservations for..." He starts counting on fingers. "Pearl, Garnet, Dad, Amethyst, Y/n, His dad... All ten of us."
"You can't bring everybody!" Connie cries.
"Why not?" Steven asks.
"Because... Because... I told my parents you have a nuclear family!" Connie says now.
"Nuclear?! Sure they make stuff blow up sometimes, but that's because they're magic, not radioactive!" Steven misinterprets and gets defensive.
"Steven, "nuclear" means two adults and their child and/or children. My parents think you live with your mother and father." Connie explains to him.
Steven just frowns. "But none of that is true. You never told your mom and dad about the Crystal Gems?"
"No, and it has to stay that way. If they find out I lied to them, they'll never let me hang out with you again."
Some time passes and Steven was discussing the dinner plan with the Gems while Y/n was helping Greg who struggled to put on a sweater.
Steven was pacing in front of the Gems in the kitchen. "How am I supposed to choose just one of you to bring to dinner? You're all so... cool!"
"Why does it have to be dinner? We get all the energy we need from our gems, and while our human constructs are capable of eating, I find it very uncomfortable." Pearl says disgusted.
"I love eating!" Amethyst chuckles. "Feels... weird." Amethyst then munches on some chips from a bag loudly and grossly, spilling some bits onto Garnet's shoulders, which she quickly brushes off.
"Okay, okay, okay. Let's focus. Which of you would make the best and most nuclear mom? Garnet, you keep us safe by scaring off the bad guys, just like a mom would. ...But you're not the best conversationalist. Amethyst, you would be a super fun mom!"
Amethyst was still munching on the chips, drooling from her mouth, and begins picking her nose.
"Can moms be gross?" Steven asks.
"I don't think they are supposed to be..." Y/n says.
"Why not?" Amethyst says as she pulls a strand of snot out of her nose.
Steven walks pass Amethyst. "Pearl! You're always worried about me, you teach me lots of stuff, you're approachable, and you're, like, totally not gross."
Amethyst continues munching away with her nose still running, causing Pearl to cringe in disgust.
"But... you can't eat dinner..." Steven conclude as he walks away sadly and sits besides Y/n and Greg on the couch. "Man, why did Connie have to say I have one mother instead of zero... or three?"
"It's alright Steven we'll figure this thing out. We just have to put our heads together. I'm not bringing my dad after all." Y/n says to try cheer Steven up.
Steven however quickly seems to get an idea. "Why didn't I think of this before? It's so obvious! You can all come to dinner! All three of you, fused into one!" He declares and snaps his finger.
"What?!" Pearl cries.
"Whoa!" Amethyst says surprised.
"What?" Greg asks Y/n who shrugs.
"Steven, you know we only fuse in deadly situations!" Pearl says to Steven now.
"It'd be like... like I'm actually bringing my whole family!" Steven says excited.
"That's insane." Amethyst comments.
"Fusion is serious magic, not a trick for dinner parties." Garnet tells him.
"...I know." Steven sighs. "Then I guess this is it. I'll never get to see Connie again. Oh, Connie! I'll never know a star that shines as bright as you." Steven starts to weep as the Gems all look at him in sympathy.
Garnet sighs now. "We have no choice."
Connie's family is sitting outside at a restaurant table that overlooked the ocean, waiting for Steven's family to arrive, while slow piano music is playing in the background.
Connie's dad Mr Maheswaran groans in boredom.
His wife Dr. Maheswaran looks at her watch. "We've been waiting for nearly 20 minutes." She says as Connie looks around nervously.

The ground starts to rumble, scaring seagulls away. Connie and her parents gasp in shock and surprise as a large woman arrives, with Steven, Y/n and Greg on her shoulders, from over the hilltops.
"Uh... Oh." Mr Maheswaran stammers slightly frightened.
"Hi, Connie! Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Maheswaran!" Steven calls out as he waves down to them.
Alexandrite puts Greg, Y/n and Steven down on the ground in front of the table now.
"Thanks... honeybun... ?" Greg says looking up at large woman and scratching the back of his head.
"You're welcome,... Greg." The large woman says a little reluctantly.
"I'm Greg Universe." Greg says as he shakes Dr. Maheswaran's hand. "This is is Y/n a friend the family and sometimes help look after Steven and Connie." Greg says introducing Y/n now.
"A pleasure to meet you." Y/n says being polite as he shakes both Connie's parent's hands.
"And this massive drink of water is my wife, Alexandrite." Greg says now referring to the large woman.
"Hiiiiii..." Alexandrite says awkwardly.
"Yes...Hello." Connie's parent's say back just as awkwardly.
Y/n, Steven, Greg and Alexandrite sit at the table. Alexandrite then grabs all the breadsticks on the table and starts munching on them.
"I hope this place has unlimited breadsticks." Mr Maheswaran says quietly to his wife.
"Don't be rude." Dr Maheswaran says back to him.
Alexandrite keeps munching. "Bleh." She sticks her tongue out, showing chewed up breadsticks. Y/n just facepalms at the whole thing.
Greg chuckles nervously. "Isn't my wife a riot?"
"So, tell me..." Dr Maheswaran starts. "How did you two meet?"
"Huh?" Greg says caught off guard slightly. "How did we meet? Well, we, um..."
Steven stands up on his seat and interrupts. "They met on a roller coaster!"
Connie mouths "What?" silently.
"She was too tall to ride! Heh-heh." Steven chuckles nervously.
Connie shakes head in disapproval.
Greg laughs nervously. "Uh, I remember it like it was yesterday. Right, honey?" He places his hand on her leg and keeps laughing nervously. "Eh... Sorry." He whispers to Alexandrite.
Alexandrite slams Greg's face onto the table a little too hard. "Have some more breadsticks... dear."
Y/n having given up was simply sat reading a menu.
"Uh..." Mr Maheswaran coughs. "What is it that you two do for a living, Mr. and Mrs. Universe?"
"Well, you see, I own a local car wash." Greg starts. "And my sweet, dear wife here uhh..."
Steven barges in again. "My mom works on an apple farm!"
Connie sighs and slams her head onto the table.
"What did we say about heads on the table?" Dr Maheswaran says to her.
"She uses all her arms to pick apples out of huge trees." Steven chuckles nervously
"Well, you know what they say: An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Greg jokes in the hope of relieving tension.
"Yes, I hate doctors." Alexandrite
"Well, I'm a doctor." Dr Maheswaran tells them now.
"Steven, help me find the restroom!" Connie says suddenly.
With Steven and Connie gone from the table Y/n suddenly became the new topic of discussion.
"And where are you're parents Y/n?" Mr Maheswaran asks him curiously.
"At this time my dad is most likely waking up for work. He works on the fishing boats in the nights and sleep during the days." Y/n says.
"Hmm." Dr Maheswaran hums. "And what of you're mother?" She asks.
Y/n closes his menu now and puts it down. "She passed away six months ago." He says as the tension rises again.
"Ahh...My condolences." Dr Maheswaran says.
Connie leads Steven to the restrooms, holding her hands on her head in annoyance.
"Things are going pretty good so far, huh?" Steven says to Connie.
"Steven, are you kidding me?! What is this thing that you brought to dinner?!" Connie asks him.
"It's my family. It's all of the Gems, fused together into a... six-armed, giant woman." Steven says
"Why couldn't you just bring one of the Gems?" Connie asks him.
"Cause that would be a lie." Steven says but squirts his eyes at Connie now and notices something. "Your... glasses."
"What about them?" Connie asks.
"I healed your eyes. You don't even need to wear those anymore." Steven tells her.
"What are you talking about?" Connie says feigning ignorance.
"All that stuff you told your parents about my family! You're just ashamed of me!" Steven accuses.
"Oh, whatever, Steven. Let's just focus on getting through the evening." Connie says now.
Connie and Steven, both now look annoyed, return back to the table, when a waiter is serving food to the group.
"So, Steven was telling me that on his mom's apple farm, they're bioengineering a gala-fuji hybrid." Connie says at the table.
"Yes, that's definitely true." Steven says.
"Isn't that right, Mrs. Universe?" Connie asks.
Alexandrite picks up a cooked shrimp with a fork, sniffs it hard and tries to eat it.
Alexandrite turns her head away from the shrimp, smooshing it on her face. "What are you doing?"
Alexandrite then slaps her head back towards the shrimp and reveals a second mouth. "I'm hungry!"
Alexandrite then grabs the shrimp. "I don't think so!"
Alexandrite grabs her other hands. "Cut it out, you two."
Alexandrite begins to fight herself, throwing an uppercut at her face and chomping her hand, as the group watches on.
"Alright that's enough!" Y/n calls from his seat. "Just unfuse and we'll talk properly as individuals! It's better than what you are currently doing..." Y/n calls out to the large fusion.
Alexandrite's face begins to crack, causing Dr. and Mr. Maheswaran to gasp in horror, as she gets up and unfuses back into Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst.
"Y/n!" Pearl cries out as she crawls towards him. "Ohh. Thank you so much. You don't know how horrified I was when that dreck nearly fell into our mouths. Eating food is so disgusting! You chew it into nasty mush, swallow that goop, and it comes out of you? What a completely horrid experience!"
"Uh, speak for yourself. Ha! I love it when mush passes through my body." Amethyst comments.
"It doesn't matter what you two think. We're doing this for Steven!" Garnet says as she summons her gauntlets and hits Pearl and Amethyst on the head.
"Oow!" The two say in unison.
"What is going on here? Who are they?!" Mr Maheswaran asks both annoyed and confused.
"That would be the Crystal Gems." Y/n idly comments as he crosses his arms. "The so called defenders of the planet..." He then adds as he watches them arguing with one another.
Dr. Maheswaran turns to Connie. "I knew I should have trusted my bad feelings about this new friend of yours, but I never thought I wouldn't be able to trust my own daughter."
Connie whimpers before she runs off.
"Connie!" Steven calls as he chases after her.
"Do you ever think that might a be a reason why Connie doesn't tell you everything?" Y/n asks Dr Maheswaran.
"Excuse me?" She replies.
"Connie told us before she met Steven that she had no friends. Something she actually was deeply upset about." Y/n started as the gems stopped arguing in the background.
"Connie said she had no friends?" Dr Maheswaran asked as she looked at her husband.
"You know, sometimes your kids are going to make choice you don't agree with." Y/n says. "Not all decisions have a good and positive outcome, sometime we make bad decisions so that we can learn to make better decisions next time." Y/n says annoyed to the Maheswaran's now. "You're daughter is extremely lucky to have a friend like Steven, because I certainly know I am."
The gems and adults all look at Y/n stunned into silence.
After a few moments Y/n sighs and rubs his eyes. "Look, I get that you just want what best for your daughter but Steven is a good kid and she and Steven get along really well. All she tells us is how much fun she has when she comes to visit. Don't you want your daughter to have friends?" Y/n asks the Maheswaran's who look at each other now.
Steven catches up to Connie at a bus stop next to the Crab Shack restaurant.
"Connie." He calls out out to getting her attention.
"Steven, I'm so sorry. It's not that I'm ashamed of you. I was so worried that my parents would think all this magic stuff is weird. What if they don't let me hang out with you anymore?" Connie begins to sob a bit.
"I...I'm sorry I messed everything up. I wish there was a way we could just... hang out without having to worry about stuff." Steven says sadly.
"Steven, let's just hop on a bus and live somewhere else without telling anyone!" Connie declares.
"That's a great idea!" Steven says on board with her idea.
A bus pulls up to the bus stop, and Steven and Connie board it. They sit down at the back of the bus.
"Where's this bus taking us?" Steven wonders.
"Wherever we end up. We'll find a way to survive. I've been reading about sustainable living." Connie says.
"Maybe it'll take us to a real apple farm!" Steven suggests.
"What's up with you and apples today?" Connie asks.
The ground starts to rumble. Steven and Connie looks out the back of the the bus and see Alexandrite charging towards them.
"STEVEEEENN!!!" Alexandrite roars with her second mouth.
"Aaaaaah!" Steven and Connie cry in fear.
Alexandrite grabs the bus now and picks it up off the ground. "You two! Come out of that bus this instant!"
"Aah! Okay! J-Just put the bus down first." Steven says.
Steven and Connie are reunited back to their respective families, as they begin to reprimand the two of them.
"I don't even know where to begin with you, young la..." Dr Maheswaran begins
"What were you thinking, running off with Connie like that!?" Pearl's voice interrupts them and they watch. "You could have gotten yourselves hurt!"
"Or gotten mangled in traffic." Garnet says.
"Or thrown in prison." Amethyst adds.
"Steven, you are in very big trouble, and we have no choice but to punish you." Pearl says now.
"But..." Steven starts.
"No dinner for 1,000 years." Garnet says seriously.
"1,000...?" Steven asks sadly.
"We would never starve you..." Pearl is quick to say. "But you will lose your TV privileges... for 1,000 years."
"Nooo! The midseason pre-finale of "Under the Knife"! How can you do this to me?!" Steven cries.
"Because we love you, Steven." Greg says in disappointment.
Steven just groans in dismay.
"Wow." Dr Maheswaran's voice sounds out as she and her husband approach Greg and the Crystal Gems. "That was a masterful use of the "because we love you" shutdown. I'm quite partial to the "It's for your own good!" myself."
"That "1,000 years of no dinner" bit, was pretty funny." Mr Maheswaran laughs.
"All comedy is derived from fear." Garnet says bluntly.
Mr. Maheswaran laughs again. "You are too much."
"I did not know what to make of the two of- Excuse me, four of you, but I see that you are responsible parents. Uh, caregivers? Guardians." Dr Maheswaran says.
"So, I can still hang out with Steven and Y/n?" Connie asks.
"Sure." Dr Maheswaran agrees. "But only if the other boy is present, he seems the most responsible."
"Alright!" Steven cheers as he runs and hugs Connie, causing her to blush.
Dr. and Mr. Maheswaran grunts at the sight of Steven hugging their daughter. Mr. Mahaswaran then steps in and separates the two from the hug.
And that's the chapter! So I tired to have Y/n make a valid point towards the Mahaswaran's when it comes to bringing a child. Sorry if it feels rushed at all I've actually had limited writing time this week but hopefully it's still alright. If you did enjoy this chapter or just the story in general then don't forget to leave a vote a comment below as it really helps and I shall see you next week in...
