《Midnight Lullabies》15 | Ashes

breaking down

like the pillars that support my very house

they crumble to the ground

and leave behind clouds of smoke

for me to suffocate in.

breaking down

like the car crash I witnessed this morning

and it bleeds of irony

for you are but a fool for leaving me; a hit-and-run

you are a fool; for the evidence will always remain.

crashing down

like the walls that seem to close in around me;

claustrophobia is the punch line and she's laughing at me

she's breathing in all the air;

I can still hear her whispering.

I am a graveyard

initials engraved on my skin

I am a memory; treasured then forgotten

choking on the ashes that run along my mouth to my throat.

I can't seem to swallow them

I am a dry, barren desert

my heart pumps nothing but clouds of smoke

that fill my pores and they evaporate in me.

I am the daylight

the sunset

the moon

the sigh before the passing.

I am relief

coursing throughout your veins

and somehow I end up getting lost

in the labyrinth of passages that reside in your mind.
