Dan, Phil and Willow headed to the western tower to look for the statue.
"Do you guys remember Ro talking about what happened earlier with Joey?" Dan asked.
"Yeah. She said his eyes turned black," Phil said.
"I'm starting to think he's been possessed. It seems to me that he's been through this before, and I think this spirit possessed him and made him invite us," Willow said.
"What makes you think he's been through this before?" Phil asked.
"He just seems to know what he's doing. His eyes seemed to say 'not again' when we found out what was going to happen. Why would he look like that if he had never experienced this before?" Willow said.
"Fair point," Dan said.
The group looked around for a minute or two.
"Found it!" Willow said. She grabbed a small wood carving of a wolf from behind a painting.
"So now we find the oak tree," Dan said. They left the tower.
I've been thinking about making an alliance for ages, and I really want to get Dan and Phil in on it.
"Listen, guys, I've been thinking, I don't want any of us to die," Willow said, "do you want to form an alliance?"
"Yes, that would be brilliant," Dan said.
"Yes, please," Phil said.
"Thank god," Willow said.
"Do we want to bring anyone else in?" Dan asked.
"Thomas. I don't wanna see him die," Willow said.
"And maybe Ro as well," Phil said.
"We'll ask them later," Dan said.
"I feel safer all of a sudden," Willow said. They laughed a little at that.
——
Thomas, Tiffany and Lauren headed out to the garden.
"So, how big is this thing? And what's it made from?" Tiffany asked.
"That is a very good question," Lauren said.
"It must be fairly small and light if we're meant to carry it to this oak tree," Thomas said. The group was silent for a moment.
"Guys, this may be a weird question, but who do you want to vote for?" Tiffany asked.
"Someone who hasn't done much, maybe Stacy. Or Mark and Jack. They haven't really been pulling their weight," Lauren said.

"Yeah, that's what I was thinking," Thomas said.
The group looked around for a minute or two.
"I got it!" Lauren said.
"Great!" Thomas exclaimed.
"Now we find this tree," Tiffany said. The group wandered off to find the tree.
———
Sean, Rosanna and Lilly headed for the dining room. They were greeted by Yammy's dead body.
"Oh my god," Rosanna said quietly.
This is the second body I've seen tonight, and it's probably scarier than seeing Nate. There is just so much blood.
"That's horrible," Lilly whispered. Yammy's head was completely pulverised. Her green dress was now bloodstained, since she was lying in a pool of her own blood.
"We should really find somewhere to put these bodies, I don't want to see anymore," Rosanna said.
"Who else did you see?" Sean asked, not really wanting to know the answer.
"Nate. He was just lying in the pantry. It was awful," Rosanna said, "anyway, we should look for this statue."
"Yeah. Any idea where it might be?" Lilly asked.
"Nope. Just look around," Sean said.
The group looked around the dining room, trying not to look at Yammy too much.
"Found it!" Sean grabbed the statue from underneath an unopened platter.
"Great! Now, we find this tree," Lilly said.
"Do we have any clue where it is?" Rosanna asked.
"Nope," Sean said. They left the room, sparing one last look at Yammy's corpse.
———
Mark, Joey and Zoe went to the basement.
"Why did we have to get stuck with the basement?" Joey whispered to himself. Mark and Zoe ignored him as they looked around for the statue.
"Guys, do you think you'll make it out of this place alive?" Joey said after a while.
"I don't know, I'm just taking it one step at a time," Mark said.
"I hope so, but I'm not sure," Zoe said truthfully.
I just managed to win my challenge against Callum because he was freaking out. He would have beat me if he had been more calm, and I don't know if I can win another challenge.
"Just try to keep faith. If you think you're gonna escape, then you will," Mark said. They shared a small smile and kept looking.

"What about you, Joey?" Zoe asked.
"Hell yes," he said. His eyes seemed to flicker black for a moment.
"I found it!" Zoe cried as she grabbed the statue from behind several cobwebs.
"Then let's find this tree," Joey said. They left the basement to find the tree.
———
Joe, Oli and Stacy went to the kitchen to find the statue.
"Do you think it will be in here or in the pantry?" Stacy asked.
"I don't know. Maybe one of us should check," Oli said.
"I'll look in here," Joe said a bit too quickly.
Last time I was in here, I saw Nate's body in the pantry and I don't want to have to see him again.
"Ok then," Oli said suspiciously, "I'll look in the pantry."
He wandered over as Stacy started to look for the statue and Joe looked at the door in fear. Oli opened it and saw Nate's body lying in there.
"Oh my god, its Nate!" he exclaimed.
"What?" Stacy ran over to the pantry, "oh god!"
"We saw him earlier when we were hiding from the peasants," Joe said, "I just didn't want to see him again."
I was hoping to make it through tonight without seeing a dead body, but I guess it was unavoidable.
Nate looks awful. He must have died a really horrible death.
"We should find somewhere to put him. It feels wrong leaving him here," Oli said, "but we can do that after we find this statue."
The group looked around for the statue, and also found snacks.
"I got it!" Stacy said. She grabbed it from behind a few bottles of wine.
"Let's go then," Oli said as they left.
———
Joel, Lizzie and Sasha went to the lounge to find their statue.
"Well, I didn't think there would be a statue in here," Sasha said.
"Yeah, it's weird thinking we could have found it earlier accidentally," Joel said.
"I just hope we find it quickly, I don't like this room," Lizzie said.
"Why not?" Joel asked sympathetically.
"It just makes me think about everyone who died. The last time we saw them was in here," Lizzie said.
"Don't think about it," Joel said. They smiled at each other, and then started looking for the statue.
"This shouldn't be too hard to find, its a wolf statue," Sasha said quietly.
"Got it!" Lizzie said.
"Good job," Joel said. The group wandered out of the room to find the tree.
———
The groups made their way outside, and found the tree. Unfortunately, they also found Callum's body nearby. Dan, Phil and Willow were the first to find him.
"Oh god, that's awful," Willow said.
"Looks like he got strangled," Dan said.
"What an awful way to go. He looks so scared," Phil said. They heard footsteps behind them. It was Mark, Joey and Zoe.
"What did you find?" Mark asked. Zoe went pale as Mark and Joey saw Callum.
"Oh god," Mark said.
"What happened to him?" Joey asked.
"He got strangled by the peasant leader. It was horrible," Zoe said quietly.
"Sounds it," Willow said, "anyway, we should find this tree. We can find somewhere to put Callum later."
The group left to put their statues at the foot of the tree.
More groups joined them, as did Alex and Lauren.
"Put the statues around the tree at equal intervals and hopefully a clue will reveal itself," Lauren said.
"You don't know what the next step is?" Oli asked.
"Unfortunately no," Lauren said. The 6 people with the statues put them around the tree.
"Hello, it's Jesse again. Well done for making it so far. I'm sorry for what is about to happen."
The tree began to glow, and the group stood back. A human figure emerged, followed by 6 other shadows. It was the wizard and his wolves.
"I didn't think you'd want to summon me when you heard the consequences of losing my challenge," the wizard said, "go and vote on two people to face my challenge. All I will say is, you will be searching for hours to find clues."
The group grumbled and left to vote.

Unliving
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon, November 2021] For the longest time, Aideen Fiachna had only one prescient wish; to be the daughter her parents could take pride in. The idea was a tall order, especially as her father stood at the head of the Templar order, and her grandfather as the Pope. However, she endeavored to try nonetheless. Yet fate had a different path in store for her. For all her efforts, all her best laid plans, were but the broken off crumbs of 'one day'. That day, she was brutally slain by a vile, accursed undead being. Though, not even restful eternity awaited her in death. She awakened inside a coffin. Her coffin. During her own funeral wake. Discovering, to her horror, that she had risen. Not somehow resurrected, no, but back in the form of that most hated of beings--the curse of undeath. What will fate deal her next? Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. --------------------------------------- Expect: -Character progression in a journey of self discovery that spanned the ages -World building -Tragedy and Comedy in roughly equal measures -Occasional action Do not expect: -Much in terms of romance -Politics, barring passing views and mentions -A lighthearted tale. This story will be a good bit grimmer than my previous one Any comments, reviews, and criticism will be much appreciated. The Cyclical Nature of Time
A girl’s life ends unexpectedly early, or so it would seem. Instead of eternal nothingness, she wakes up in an empty valley with no clue how she got there. Taking her predicament in stride, she sets out to do something about it. Unfortunately for her, the first couple of people she meets aren’t much help. They claim they haven’t heard of electricity and dress as if they were on a break from their job at a Viking-themed amusement park. MC is a somewhat normal girl. She's pragmatic and not very angsty. The story is tagged with anti-hero, but to be clear, she is not a villain. She does good if she can, she just isn't morally motivated to do so. The story starts out smelling of fantasy but will eventually shift towards sci-fi. It contains some supernatural elements and has a strong lead, but it is not your usual power trip. Expect a story that takes its time, but not to the point where entire chapters are spent on mindless chit-chat. I’m not into that. This is my first serious attempt at writing and I've learnt a lot writing this. Unfortunately, that shows. Chapter 1-10 is slow and rather pointless. Things get better, but it is not until chapter 25 or so that I began understanding how to structure chapters and to make them support the larger story. I publish about 3000 words a week (every sunday) but I write about 10000 words a week. Sticking to that pace, which is easy, the last chapter will be out by July.

Praise for Awakening: If you love Anne McCaffrey, J.R.R. Tolkien and Tad Williams, then Awakening is a novel you will surely want to pick up. D.N.Frost is a consummate world-builder with a knack for creating characters that are complex and three-dimensional. Frost writes with graceful prose that is descriptive and well-edited. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining. What really sets this novel apart is the cartography, which is a spectacular accomplishment. Incredible world-building! - M.L. Spencer, author of The Rhenwars Saga ★★★★★ This novel was published in 2014, and it includes 19 antique watercolor maps! Check them out: Maps of Awakening: an atlas directory
