《Grimm Season 6 Episode 14: In the Nick of Time》Chapter Five

It was impossible to talk about the case for the whole drive back, especially without the crucial details that Rosalee and Monroe would hopefully be providing. The group ended up discussing random unrelated topics.
*************
"I can't believe I never noticed before," Wu suddenly blurted out.
Nick turned around in his seat and so did Trubel. Hank eyed Wu through the rearview mirror. They all looked on in anticipation, waiting for Wu to reveal his epiphany. Maybe he figured out a clue about the case.
"What?" Hank asked when Wu didn't continue.
"You always drive," Wu observed. "Why doesn't Nick ever drive?"
"Yeah, you're right," Trubel agreed. Her brow furrowed with confusion as she looked over at Nick. "Why don't you drive, Nick? You're a Grimm. Your reflexes are better than Hank's."
"Hey," Hank objected, offended. "I'm a good driver."
"Are you a bad driver?" Wu asked Nick.
"No!" Nick answered defensively.
"Well..." Hank said. "You wrecked the car like, what? Three times?"
"Four," Nick said grumpily.
"Oh, four?" Wu repeated snarkily.
"But they weren't my fault," Nick denied, looking around at the people that surrounded him. Not a single one looked convinced.
"That's what they all say," Wu added. Nick shot him a dirty look.
"Really!" Nick promised. "The first time was before I was a Grimm. Some idiot ran a stop sign."
"Okay, that's true," Hank admitted. "I was there for that one."
"What about the others?" Trubel asked. Nick used to drive her around all the time, and he seemed like he knew what he was doing.
"The other times happened somewhat recently. This one guy slammed on his brakes for no reason at all and sped away. Another changed lanes into me. The other was just a normal rear end," Nick explained. "Not my fault."
"It's strange that they all happened at one time," Hank said.
"It all happened within the past six years," Nick agreed, nodding.
"So you were a Grimm at the time?" Trubel clarified. She made a face like she was deep in thought.
Nick wasn't really sure what she was getting at. "Yeah, why?"
Trubel looked up at Nick. "Were they Wesen?"
"All three were, actually," Nick said.

"They probably ran into you on purpose," Trubel said. "They saw you were a Grimm and tried to take you out."
"People do that?" Hank asked, appalled. Nick shrugged, and Trubel said, "It happens to me all the time when I'm driving cars on assignments for HW. They get mad because of traffic or something, woge, and see that I'm a Grimm. I don't even know these people, and then all of the sudden, they try to smash their car into me."
"That would make sense," Nick mused. "I just never thought..."
"Okay, Nick. Now you're never allowed to drive," Hank said, slightly joking.
"Hey," Nick objected. "I must have done a decent job at driving. We aren't dead."
"Yet," Wu said pessimistically.
"What did you do to the guys that hit you?" Trubel asked Nick.
"Exchanged insurance information. Or arrested them depending on which ones we're talking about," Nick said. Something about the way Trubel asked the question made him curious. "What did you do?"
"I didn't arrest them," was all she replied.
*************
"Are aliens real?" Trubel asked.
"Gluhenvolk are," Nick said.
"No, I'm not talking about alien-like Wesen," Trubel clarified. "I'm talking about outer space, flying saucer, intergalactic aliens."
"I don't know," Nick said.
"I'm not surprised by anything anymore," Hank said. "If they were real, I would just add it to the list of crazy things I've seen."
"What about ghosts?" Wu asked.
Hank and Nick said, "Real," at the same time. Wu and Trubel exchanged a confused look.
"We had a case involving a ghost story. I saw the ghost woman, caught her, and she just vaporized in my arms. If she wasn't a ghost I don't know what else she could be," Nick explained.
"Bigfoot?" Wu asked.
"Wesen," Nick said.
"And the Loch Ness Monster is Wesen," Trubel said.
"And so are Egyptian Gods," Hank added.
"But the golem wasn't," Trubel said.
"And Volcanalis," Hank tacked on.
"So the world gets weirder," Wu said. "Maybe it isn't just Portland."
*************
"We never talk about normal things anymore," Nick complained.
"You sound like my third wife," Hank said as Nick whined.

"I'm just saying, it's been awhile since we had time to think about anything remotely normal," Nick said.
"What's normal, again?" Wu asked. "Can someone remind me what normal is?"
Hank laughed. "I can't."
No one else in the car could define normal, either.
"It's like," Nick stumbled. "Like everything we used to do before we found out about Wesen and Grimms."
"Okay, let's all just pretend to be normal, then," Hank said, grinning at his challenge for Nick.
"Fine," Nick accepted. He wracked his brain for something normal to talk about. "So, how have the Timbers been doing?" he asked. Sports - normal people liked sports.
"I don't know," Hank said. "I haven't had time to watch the games."
"Okay," Nick said. He paused, looking for another topic. "I had to clean out my garage and assemble a table that I got from the store."
"Wow, Nick. That's really exciting," Trubel said in a dull, unimpressed voice. "Please, tell us more."
Wu and Hank laughed while Nick and Trubel glared at each other. Eventually, the two Grimms cracked a smile.
"That's it," Nick said. "I give up."
*************
"Are Monroe and Rosalee's kids going to be Blutbaden or Fuchsbauer?" Wu asked.
"Vorherrscher," Nick said.
"What's that?" Trubel asked.
"I don't know," he said. "That's what Monroe said when he was trying to explain Wesen genetics to me."
"Depending on what that means, we could have our answer," Hank said.
"Or not," Wu contradicted.
"Maybe they will be half and half like Renard," Hank said. "He's half human and half Zauberbiest."
"But only Zauberbiests do the half and half thing," Nick said. "Remember when we were investigating the Grausen, Rosalee and Monroe said that when humans and Wesen, er... mixed, that they had a 50% chance of exhibiting human or Wesen traits. They didn't say anything about a combination."
"Then maybe one is a dominant trait over the other. Maybe they will all be one type of Wesen," Wu said.
"Maybe," Nick said, shrugging.
"What's Kelly?" Trubel asked.
"A Grimm," Nick said.
"Are you sure?" Hank asked.
Nick looked at him. "No."
They left it at that.
*************
"Hey, Trubel?" Wu asked.
"What?"
"If you and Nick fought, which one of you would win?"
Trubel looked at Nick as if she were sizing him up. Nick and Trubel both said, "I would," at the same time.
"Uh-oh," Hank said nervously.
"Wait, can we use weapons?" Trubel asked.
"No," Wu said, establishing an imaginary set of rules.
"Ha! No machete!" Nick taunted.
"No gun," Trubel retorted smugly.
Nick was trying to keep the conversation light. He never told anyone the detail of what happened in the other place - especially that he beat up Trubel. In that world, Nick had won, but he wasn't sure he could under normal circumstances. For one thing, he was probably more desperate than Trubel had been in the other place... and Trubel had been dead about a minute before he fought her. Nick was pretty sure that being dead at some point would decrease someone's chances at winning a fight, so he really didn't know which one of them would win.
"What are we fighting for?" Nick asked. "I need a motivation."
Wu said the first thing that came to his mind. "Food."
All at once, Hank said, "Trubel would win that one," Nick said, "I would lose," and Trubel said, "Oh, yeah. I'd take you out." The car was filled with laughter until Nick started complaining. "That's giving Trubel an unfair advantage."
"What do you want to fight over?" Trubel asked him.
Nick thought for a minute. "Kelly."
"There's no way that fighting over Kelly is more fair!" Trubel objected.
"Yeah, but I'd win this one, so I don't care," Nick said.
"Bragging rights," Hank suggested. "You guys want that just as much, right?"
"I might want it a little more," Nick said.
"Yeah, right!" Trubel shouted incredulously.
"So, it's settled," Wu said. "If you guys fought for bragging rights and one of you won-"
Nick interrupted, "It would be me."
"No, it wouldn't!" Trubel denied, smiling.
"If one of you won, you would be the ultimate Grimm champion," Wu said.
"You know we're going to have to settle this one way or another," Trubel said, looking at Nick.
"Yes, we are," he agreed, narrowing his eyes at Trubel.
"I think I could take you," Trubel said smugly. Nick laughed at her and she said he wouldn't be laughing if they actually fought each other.
