The women are in high spirits after getting rid of Joan, but Alice is concerned about Rita. Two faces from the past return to haunt Marty and Rita. Rodney finds out that Kath and Lisa have been tricking him about the bottles and plans revenge by setting Kath up so that she goes to solitary. Meg is unhappy to find out that Marty and Spike have been seeing each other. Roo offers Rodney a partnership.

Rodney attacks Kath in solitary but Joyce interrupts them. Rodney makes up a lie and asks Joyce to keep it between them but later on, she tells Ann about it. Ann talks to Kath who tells her what really happened so Ann confronts Rodney and warns him she is going to get rid of him for corruption. Rodney asks Roo to help him get rid of Ann. Roo takes over as top dog and starts dealing drugs and tragedy strikes when Lisa is killed after taking some. Vicki tries to kiss Brumby and Brumby reacts with fury. Ann is run down by a hit-and-run driver. An old friend contacts Meg from the hospital asking for help

Dwyer brings in a new governor to replace Ann - Vera Bennett! Rodney is horrified that Roo caused Ann's accident. Rita and Kath make plans to kill Roo. Vicki has a visit from her mother and Brumby tells her that Vicki is a lesbian, causing her mother to disown her. Vera fires Tom Lucas and closes down the reward flat. Marty causes trouble for Chrissie by encouraging Derek to keep Elizabeth away from her. Lizzie returns to Wentworth.

Rita and Kath's plan to kill Roo doesn't go to plan and Rita is rushed to hospital. Rodney convinces Merle that she has to kill Brumby but she kills Mervin by mistake. Merle is transferred to Ingleside Roo shocks Chrissie by revealing her ''explosive'' escape plan. Vera brings her deputy from Barnhurst, Janice Raymond, to Wentworth and Janice brings along two familiar faces

Rita escapes from the hospital and organizes for Lurch, Harry, and Lori to escape from prison. She organizes a new life for them in the states. Margo takes over as top dog. Marty is stunned to receive a card from ''Dad'' on his birthday and is convinced that Chrissie sent it

Marty accuses Chrissie of sending the card, she denies it but he refuses to believe her. Marty visits Merle and Ingleside and she tells him that Rodney told her that Brumby was bad. Chrissie tells Meg that Marty has convinced Derek not to let her see Elizabeth, Meg visits Derek to tell him the truth. Brumby escapes from Wentworth in a garbage truck and causes the death of a family when the truck causes a road accident. Brumby is soon recaptured. Rita tries to kill Roo but fails
