《Chasing Royalty》Chapter 29

It was night time. I'm standing on a Greenfield near a lake, staring at the Alps while the Milky Way made its spectacular appearance and the Aurora Borealis colored the night sky.

I know this is a dream.

There's no guessing.

The only time I ever saw the Northern Lights in my country was ten years ago. And it was only due to some space phenomena. If I didn't know better, I would have probably thought that I am in Norway. But alas, the green field, the lake, the breeze, and the Alps, and not to mention the castle can be seen from where I am standing.

This is Switzerland. My home. My country.

I breathed in the fresh scent of air.

I missed this.

I miss walking on the Greenfields of my country. This is one of the best perks I enjoyed being a princess. I could enjoy what the sky and nature can offer. As usual, I would sit on the ground, not minding the dirt that could get to my white dress. I will close my eyes for a moment before looking at the wonderful view above.

I was looking for the beautiful patterns of stars when something out of the blue caught my eye. I looked at the direction of that something until my eyes landed on a lonely lantern making its way upwards. I watched it fly until it was followed by many more lanterns.

I remembered the movie "Tangled" and I think this is the part where I should start singing.

All those days watching from the windows

All those years outside looking in

All that time never even knowing

Just how blind I've been.

I stand up when I realized that I am now practically surrounded by lanterns. I know it's in my dream, but I still want to know who made this because I am so sure that I am not controlling this dream.

Now I'm here blinking in the starlight

Now I'm here suddenly I see

Standing here it's oh so clear

I'm where I meant to be

They say if you are dreaming something really good, there is a great possibility that it will come true. I giggled at the thought while still singing the lyrics of "I See the Light".

And at last I see the light

And it's like the fog has lifted

And at last I see the light

And it's like the sky is new

I opened my arms wide and twirled as I laughed my heart out with happiness while still singing.

And it's warm and real and bright

And the world is somehow shifted

I stopped twirling and stared at the silhouette of a man standing in front of me behind the floating lanterns.

All at once everything is different

Now that I see you

The man started walking towards me and I smiled knowing that he is the cause of this beautiful scene.

HONK!

I bolted up from my bed as the obnoxious honking sound pulled me out of my dreams. I stood at something until I fell, face first on the floor. I only realized that I wasn't exactly in my bed sleeping but rather in my study room. That something I stepped on was actually the armrest of my chair.

"TRICK OR TREAT!"

I groaned aloud as I heard Jessica's voice while still honking.

"Jess! Please. Stop that shit! You're going to wake up the whole neighborhood."

"I think you mean, 'you're waking me up'," she said, mimicking my voice.

"Alright. Oh please, shut up. You're giving me a headache."

"Oh, come on. It's not my fault you stayed up all night."

I lifted my head off the floor to glare at her. "I didn't stay up all night last night."

She leaned forward. "Of course, you didn't. You just stayed up until the wee hours and decided to sleep here."

"Ugh!" I slumped my head at the floor again.

"It's 8 by the way."

That made me rise quicker than Jessica's trick or treat. "WHAT!?!"

"Yeah. It's eight. And your boss just called asking for the presentation."

"SHIT!"

"No worries though. I already sent the presentation when he called."

"What?" Okay, the world seemed to spin.

"He called an hour ago, and I just tinkered on your laptop. I emailed the presentation and well he said, 'thanks'."

I raised an eyebrow. "How would you even know what presentation to send?"

She rolled her eyes. "Well, duh! You've been working on a presentation the whole day. So, it had to be that presentation. Whatever it was."

"Did he check the email you sent her?"

"Of course, he did. If it was a mistake, he wouldn't have said thanks after ten minutes."

"How did you managed to unlock my laptop."

"My friend," she began, draping an arm on my shoulders, "you haven't changed a bit. You are still in love with David Beckham."

"I am not!"

"Oh, please! Stop acting like he was your ex. He's like your ultimate crush ever since you saw his picture on a magazine."

"Well, that was then. I am over him."

"Oh, really? The password on your laptop says otherwise."

I rolled my eyes and elbowed her.

"Ouch! That elbow of yours could really kill me, you know that?" She rubbed her side and gave me a stabbing look. "I made breakfast by the way, just come downstairs when you get yourself in a decent look."

"Thank you!"

Jessica and I moved out of the apartment we had when I first arrived in New York. According to her mom, Uncle Vince finally understands that their daughter just wants to be free from their grasps. So as a "simple" parting gift for their daughter, Uncle Vince gave us, I mean her, this two-story house near Long Island Sound.

Of course, it is definitely not "simple". Yes, it was only a two-story house, but the ceiling is just so high that some would say that it already occupied two floors. All the bedrooms have this amazing view of the Long Island Sound, making it more serene and peaceful. The living room has four living chairs and a sofa. The dining room and the kitchen have ground to ceiling glass windows that shows the view of Long Island Sound. Outside are the pool area and a pavilion that is perfect for barbecues.

I was in the shower when my thoughts went back to my dream. I recalled the beautiful view in front of me, the sky, the lake and the lanterns. It was such a beautiful dream. That man, whoever it was, I want to see his face. Then, I'm going to ask someone to sketch his face and let my father's minions search him.

As if I could do that.

I know it's crazy, but I want something like that. I'm a princess and I could practically ask anyone from the palace to do the lantern thing for me. But the thing is I want someone to do that willingly, without me forcing that someone.

I want someone to make me feel special. I want to experience love and I want to explore and feel its magical powers.

I finished showering, got myself in a business suit and went downstairs for breakfast.

I found Jessica sitting on one of the bar stools while sipping her hot chocolate.

"Finally!" I rolled my eyes and pulled a chair in the dining table and plopped myself on it. "After three thousand years you're done showering."

I shook my head and stared at the stack of pancakes in front of me. I heard Jessica sat on one of the chairs beside me. I looked at her and she was already staring back at me intently.

"I can't believe it."

"What?" she giggled.

I looked at her, shocked. "You managed to cook pancakes perfectly."

She narrowed her eyes before leaning back on her seat. "Well, that's one of the perks of being not a princess."

"Hey!"

"Come on, just taste it."

I snorted before I took a bite. No kidding. The pancakes are heavenly. I closed my eyes and chewed slowly, savoring the taste.

"See. It's heavenly, I know," she winked and gave out a grin. I found it really funny how she can read my mind.

"Not bad."

"I think you mean it's very good." She leaned on her elbows and smiled smugly. "And because of that, you'll tell me what you were thinking the whole time you were in the shower."

No way!

I've been telling her everything and I think it isn't time for her to know my fantasies. At least not yet. Besides, I haven't seen the face of the man, so I can't really tell her if the guy was good looking or not, which I think will be the vital point in my story in her opinion.

"I wasn't thinking in the shower."

"Oh, come on. Do you really think I'm going to buy that stupid response? You've been taking so long in the shower."

"I wasn't really. I was just enjoying the water." I lied. "And I wasn't that long."

"Yeah not that long because I left you at the study room at 8 and you came here at 9?"

"WHAT!?!"

I stared at my hands and that's only when I realized that my palms are pruney.

"If it's 9, then I... are you, I mean, why are we still here?"

She raised an eyebrow. "You really have to tell me what's going on. My friend, it's Saturday which means no work."

I choked on my drink. Oh, right.

"So, we have a whole day. You can tell me what has been going on with you."

"If it was Saturday, why the hell did you wake me up?"

She glared at me, knowing that I was just dodging the topic.

"Because I made pancakes. Now. Your turn."

I stiffened. I guess there's no way out.

"There's nothing going on with me," I said and shoved more pancakes in my mouth.

"Okay. Let me further elaborate my question. What's going on between you and Nathaniel?"

"There's nothing going on between me and Nate."

"I thought you said you two have been getting along just fine so why is he giving you too much paperwork?"

"I don't know."

"We haven't had the talk since you dream last month about Alexander. Does this have to do with him?"

"No! I will never waste my time on him!"

"Okay. Okay." She raised her hands in surrender. "So, what's this about? What were you thinking? Is there something bothering you? Are you still afraid of getting busted?"

"Nothing, nothing, nothing, and a big fat NO!" I answered.

"Then, what is it?"

"I know we haven't talked since I had that whole getting busted dream, but I still wanted to talk about it." I chugged down my drink and stared at the empty cup.

"So, there is something then."

I blew out a sigh before answering. "Yes. There is something."

"Well, come on. Spit it out."

"I don't want to talk about it."

She tilted her head sideways. "Why not?"

"Because we are both busy. Like you said, Nate's been giving me a lot of paperwork. He's actually giving me a hard time. And you, my dear friend has been going out a lot with Aaron Stevens—"

"We are not dating!" she glared, interrupting me.

"I never said you were." I drained my glass of water before continuing. "Look. We have been both busy. I will tell you what was on mind when I figured something out first. I want to contemplate on my own."

She heaved a sigh. "Fine. But you owe me big time." She said while walking out the living area.

"Hey, where are you going?"

She poked her head at the archway. "I'm going to buy a new dress. A-hole is going on some charity event. He needs me again as his date." She shivered at the last word.

"Nate is going to attend an event too. Is it the charity?"

"No. I think Nathaniel Westwood will attend a gala."

"Okay, thank you."

I cleaned up and changed myself in my comfortable clothes. I went back to my room and decided to watch a movie. Remembering my dream, I decided to watch Tangled. I was on the lantern part when my eyes decided to close and take me back to my slumber.
