"Barnes. B-a-"
"I know how to spell." Colonel Phillip s said, flipping through papers.
Cassandra stood silently behind Peggy. Looking at her hands as the man went through the papers, praying that her brother wasn't gone. When there was no reply, a tear slipped out of her eyes, and fell to her shoe, much to her dismay. She wasn't supposed to cry.
Steve walked away, and she followed him, Peggy in tow. She let Peggy go in front of her, wanting to be alone. As alone as you could be in an army base.
Her head picked up when Steve mentioned "going to save them." Cassandra stood in front of him, making herself as tall as she could.
"I'm going with you."
••••••••••••••
"Stark is the best civilian pilot I've ever seen. He's mad enough to brave this airspace, we're lucky to have him." Peggy said to Steve and Cassandra.
"So are you two, do you, fondue?" Steve asked, pointing between Peggy and Howard.
Cassandra started laughing, but she immediately stopped when Peggy shot her a look. But she could still feel the big smile on her face. Peggy ignored him and handed him a tracker.
"This is your transponder. Activate it when you're ready and the signal will lead us straight to you."
"Are you sure this thing works?"
"It's been tested more than you pal," Howard said.
Cassandra strapped on a parachute, walking towards the door. She almost fell over when their plane began being shot at, but Steve caught her, pushing her back up. Steve threw the plane door open, and Peggy ran to the both of them.
"Get back here! We're taking you all the way in!" Peggy yelled, tugging at Cassandra's arm, trying to pull her back.
"As soon as I'm free, you turn this thing around and get the heck outta here!" Steve ordered.

"You can't give me orders!"
"The heck I can! I'm a Captain!" Steve yelled before jumping out of the plane, Cassandra following close after.
"Sorry Peg."
The wind blew past Cassandra, her stomach dropping. She almost forgot to pull her parachute.
"Agent! Parachute!" Steve yelled at her over the wind.
Cassandra tugged on the cord, releasing the parachute, and being blown back as it caught the air. She floated down, landing on the ground softly. Her boots touched the damp leaves, squishing underneath her feet. Steve waved her over, and pointed to a few Hydra trucks going by.
Steve and Cassandra ran to the last truck in the line, and jumped into the back. Two Hydra agents sat guarding whatever they were hauling. Cassandra shoved one out the back of the truck, but not before knocking him out. Steve threw the other out, and they sat quietly in the truck.
The truck stopped inside the base, ready to be unloaded. The officer opened up the back, and was surprised by Steve's shield. Cassandra threw a knife to his neck, and the pair jumped out of the truck.
•••••••••••••
"Where are they?" Cassandra asked the guard.
"You are not authorized for that information."
"I have the top highest kills in all of Hydra. Now, where are they?" She asked again, venom in her voice.
"Down the hall, underneath the grates you'll step on."
Cassandra elbowed the man in the face, and threw a punch to his chin, knocking him out.
"Captain Rogers! They're on the floor under us!" Cassandra called.
"Ok, I'll-"
"Right, you'll get the rest of the legion, I'm getting Barnes!"
"How do you know where he is?"
"I just know!"
With that, Cassandra sprinted off down the hall. She ran to the factory, and into the lab where they tested, people. It was horrible. Luckily, she had never been tested, experimented on, the Red Room had done that to her enough. She had the Black Widow serum in her veins. She wasn't sure what it was, but she did know it hurt the the fires of the Underworld.

She entered an empty doorway, ready to shoot anyone and anything. Nobody was in the room, except for a figure on a surgery bed.
James.
She swallowed her fear, and ran to the man.
"Sergeant. 32557," he stated, using army tactics for torture.
"Sergeant Barnes, it's alright. We're here to rescue you." Cassandra said.
"Who are you?" He asked, his words mixing together.
"My name is Agent Lucy Hawthorne for the, forget this. My name is Cassandra Odelle Barnes, I'm your little sister. I'm here to rescue you. Can you stand?"
"Cass. Oh Cass, it's been so long." He remembered.
Cassandra helped her brother up, and the siblings wrapped their arms around eachother. James lifted her off her feet, like he always did when they were little.
"You're so big." He whispered, holding her face in his hands.
"I'm big? Look at you!" Cassandra exclaimed.
They hugged again and Cassandra helped James walk. Steve found them, and they ran to find an exit. Cassandra took them to the stairs over the bigger factory.
"Captain Rogers."
Cassandra froze. She put her head down, pretending to be afraid. And let's be honest, she probably was a little bit afraid. Her boss, was standing across from her, and her brother was right next to her. If Schmidt gave away the fact she was technically working for Hitler, she'd be fitted for the noose.
Cassandra tuned out most of the conversation, making sure James was still holding onto to life, and her. Explosions boomed underneath them, shaking the bridge they were on.
She looked up when Schmidt pulled at his skin, tearing off his mask, revealing a horrifying skull shaped face that was blood red. He tossed the mask into the flames below, and Cassandra watched it fall.
"You don't have one of those do you?" James asked Steve.
"Nope." Cassandra answered angrily.
She chucked a knife carelessly at Schmidt and Doctor Zola, screaming as she let the knife go. Schmidt lazily knocked the knife to the side. Cassandra let go of James and leaped at Schmidt. She punched him in the jaw, and kicked him away from her. She blocked his punches easily, and returned the hits easily. Cassassandra spun around to kick him, but she was caught off guard when James yelled,
"Watch out!"
She turned around, and Schmidt swiped a knife across her arm. She screamed, holding her arm, and Schmidt pulled her into a headlock, pressing her own knife to her throat. She screamed, trying to fight him, trying to get out, but he kept pressing the dagger into her throat, eventually drawing blood.
"Let her go!" Steve yelled.
Schmidt was distracted enough to look up, letting Cassandra hit him in the face with her fist. He let go, stumbling back, and she was yanked back by James, which held her tightly against him.
She felt warm blood trail down her neck, bleeding onto her jacket, staining the white top underneath. Her world was spinning, and she felt dizzy. The smoke from the explosions made her lungs ache, and she felt herself falling asleep.

Leaves of Terranthir
DISCONTINUED - I won't be writing more of this fiction. Check out the latest post for a worlbuilding summary / final thoughts. Leaves of Terranthir is a gamelit blend of ARPG, action, fantasy, and slice of life. It's inspired in part by some of my favourite games, borrowing in themes, sense of exploration, and aesthetics from the Soulsborne and soulslike genre, mixed heavily with arpg itemization from Diablo/PoE style games. While many may remember their Soulslike experiences as nothing more than suffering, I personally loved the sense of progression, to prevail over challenges and monsters that seemed impossible to defeat at first. If any of that seems interesting to you, do check out the first chapter and let me know what you think. Cheers, and thanks for reading. Cover by Baconstrap.
