Whatever happened to the hayloft?

Burnt to the ground, and what about Pop?

He took his ass back to the crack shack

With his long johns on, singing that old song

My baby's got a gun, my baby's got a gun,

My baby's got a gun, I better run.

-Mother Mother

His eyes were set ahead as his gloved hand was holding my bare ones.

I clenched my teeth to stop my hands from shaking.

The hallway was dimly lit by candles on both sides. I could see half of the paintings whilst the other half remained in the darkness.

The smell in these hallways was clean. Honestly, I did not expect that. Even though I always see Enzo or anyone else so clean and hygienic I expect these walls to be lined with sweat and other body fluids.

Ew.

"What did you want to show me?" I ask and he turns, his icy blue eyes meeting mine. His face is illuminated by the candlelight as he grins.

"Patience darling." He whispers and a chill travels down my spine.

I should have never told him that I wasn't scared of him.

Well shit, rip Marnie.

Fly high. I hope Satan's at least hot.

"So you run a business?" I ask softly, my voice echoing. His body tenses but then he looks down at me with a raised eyebrow.

"Is that what they told you?" He asks and I do not answer.

"Well, in a way... Yes?" He answers but it sounds more like a question.

"Enzo, dove diavolo vai?" I hear a woman's voice yell down the hallway.

Enzo, where the hell are you going?

"Il retro." He answers turning around and walking backwards as I look behind to see a silhouette of a woman with short hair and a lean physique.

To the back.

"I don't want bloody water around here, the flowers wilt because of it!" She yells before disappearing, he turns back around and walks ahead.

"What the fuck?" I pester and he shakes his head smiling.

"She's a little bitchy about some things, don't mind her." He answers and soon enough one of her heels flies right past him.

"I heard that dipshit." I look behind me again to see her silhouette. Enzo still holding my hand bends and picks the black heel up and angles his body towards where she is still standing.

"You missed dipshit." He laughs throwing it back and she catches it without missing a beat and flips him off.

We turn a corner and silence is surrounding us again. What I see baffles me truly.

A large opening that overlooked the rolling hills, the moonlight shining on the lake making it look like something out of a fantasy book.

"That is beautiful." I breathe out, my heels tapping on the floor as I take a step further.

Now, this would be perfect for Enzo to kill me. Considering I'm wearing heels which justifies me having no sense of balance or coordination. The height at which we are right now will justify my neck breaking as he pushes me down.

In short, he could tell people that I simply tripped and fell out of the large window.

"I hope you like horses." He says and I turn around to look at him as he studies his watch.

"I do." I say, confused still.

"In about a minute you're going to see something that will be etched into your mind forever." He grins and I hold my breath not responding.

Like what? Death? Well damn, that is for sure going to be etched into my mind.

The wind blows towards the north as it probably carries pollen and the sweet smell along with it. I fear one day, I would not be able to feel the wind, smell the flowers and watch the moon.

That day was my death.

It's funny really, how much I used to hate Arthur. But now her name is the only one ringing in my head like bells. As if she had trapped me in those pretty little hands of hers.

After swimming in that lake, watching her play, watching her smile, seeing how careful she is with Lenon, feeling the care that pours into her very being around people she likes, I thought I wouldn't recognise her when she would be involved in this dangerous world.

A dangerous world that I don't know the working of. I thought I wouldn't recognise her.

But I did, I could recognise her silhouette, her smell, the faint sound her rings make when she fiddles with her fingers causing them to clink. The way that her fingers curl around a pen is different than normal.

I would recognise her.

My thoughts are cut as I see dozens of stallions now racing through the meadows. Their coat shone in the light. I wish I could hear their hooves rapping onto the ground. I hold my breath as I witness the fantastical view in front of me.

The view manages to truly etch into my mind like a golden memory.

"Holy shit," I whisper, I feel warmth pour into my side as Enzo steps up.

"When I grew up and we started living here, I used to consider this my safe place. It's kind of stupid because it's not tucked away or anything. In fact, it's so exposed that everyone knows about this place. But that's the beauty of it." He says and I look at him as he grins, his hands are tucked into his pockets.

"You saw that lake, but never this did you?" He asks pointing to a channel of water underneath us.

"I didn't," I whisper and my eyebrows furrow as his grin widens.

Something is not right.

"See, maybe I lied that's not the only thing beautiful about this. I'll let you in on something, eh?" He starts off walking around me.

"Yeah? I don't think I really want to know." I mutter my voice catching in my throat.

"Oh, but I think you do." His grin is unnerving.

"Believe me I would rather not," I say shaking my head and he laughs.

"I'll tell you anyway." He starts and I tuck my hands inside the pockets of my trousers to hide the fact that they are shaking.

"Anyone who came here would get shot by me." He grins and all I can do is hope that the words that are coming out of his mouth are satire.

I don't want bloody water around here, the flowers wilt because of it.

The woman's words ring in my ears as I look up at him as he steps a little too close.

"Or pushed, really depends on my mood." He says and I'm very aware of how dangerously close he is standing to me.

"They would fall into that channel and then... Well, they'd die. Obviously." He laughs pointing to the channel and I almost tear up. This man is psychotic.

"I would hate to see such a pretty face like yours go, Marnie Bennet." He whispers in my ear and only then does it hit me.

"Some people in here are killers Ms Bennet."

"Marnie Bennett."

His words were echoing in my ears.

"I never caught your name."

"That is because I never threw it. I'm Marnie."

I never told him my last name.

"I never told you my last name," I whisper as I look up at him to see him looking back at me, amused and deranged.

Maybe I was talking so much about death and being pushed that I may have accidentally manifested it.
