《Jump-Verse: Prelude》Chapter 1

Two days earlier
Okimi dug through his hair, checking for spitballs. As he suspected there was another one in there, marking the 15th successful shot today. It was the last day of school before summer break, and it instantly clicked that students could do whatever they wanted. It's not like the teachers would care. On his way to math, two kids rode the mop cart down a flight of stairs.
Okimi passed a bathroom smelled something that third-years probably shouldn't be ingesting. But that's the way this school acted. To Okimi, Sendai High was probably where delinquents were made, and half the kids there left school with at least a bloody nose almost every day. As soon as the bell rang, he made a beeline for the exit.
Students were stampeding the halls trying to leave the place they consider hell. Okimi was a normal height, and he took a moment to thank his parents for being slightly taller than average. He saw tons of other kids who weren't as lucky, as they were fated to be trampled as kids ran like their lives depended on it.
When he finally got out he was greeted with a cool breeze to accompany the bright, hot sun. Students walked away from the school, arms wrapped around their friends' necks, hands of lovers entwined together, all the cool kids doing ollies grinding rails, zipping away. Okimi walked towards his trusty 2009 Honda Civic, twirling his keys around his finger and unlocking the door. He took a moment to stare at the large dent on its bumper, remembering how it got damaged that fateful day four years ago...

"Honey, watch out!"
The Civic took a wide left, narrowly avoiding tons of chunks of rock hurtling towards them. Okimi stared out the back window, frozen with terror, and the slightest bit of awe, as a man in some type of odd space armor chased them in flight, lobbing purple glowing spheres at them. Each one exploded with enough power to destroy a house, so their car would stand no chance. "Darnell, it's gaining on us!"

"I'm trying! Aira, if I can't lose him, I need you to grab Okimi and run, you hear me?!"
the car lurched and suddenly rose. The man had caught up and grabbed the car. He hurled it away, laughing maniacally as he did so. The family screamed as they flew across the street , right for a gas truck. Just when they were about to make impact, the car stopped again. The bumper had hit against the Semi's grill, but was otherwise okay. The car slowly touched the ground again, and they immediately got out. "Hey," someone suddenly said. They turned to him.
There he was. A man with some crazy hair and an orange gi. "You guys alright? I was a little late on that. I was thinking that I could just revive you guys with the dragon balls, but then I remembered we have no clue where they are! heh heh..."
The three just stood there with their mouths gaped. Finally, Darnell spoke up. "Th-thank you..."
"Don't mention it. You might wanna get away from here though. Those Venoms are nasty. Oh! Speaking of which..."
Goku suddenly had a smirk on his face. He brought two fingers to his forehead and vanished. They were just left there wondering when this nightmare would finally end.

Okimi opened the door and dropped his bag in front of it. He walked over to his mom and kissed her on the cheek. "Hey mom, Just stopping by to get some stuff."
"Okay, sweetie. How was school?"
"It was good."
Okimi looked out the balcony. His father, Darnell stood there, staring at the buildings. "Hey, dad," Okimi said.
"Kim," his father replied coolly, letting out a long drag of his cigarette. "You know, I always thought I'd wanna get one a them big houses, but these apartments give one hell of a view. Glad we got a tall one." He started puffing his cigarette again. "You get any trouble at school today?"

"No."
"That's good. Don't want any a' them kids thinking they better than you."
He was referring to Okimi's skin color. When Aira and Darnell got married, it caught all their friends off guard. One came from Osaka and the other came from "the hood," even though he was born and raised in Maine. The birth of Okimi surprised people even more. They'd never seen a Black and Asian baby before. In elementary and middle school, Okimi received a lot of strange looks because of it.
"People there don't care about your skin color. They just beat you up anyways. I'm headed down to the lab," Okimi said.
Darnell stared at the clouds. "I know you's a smart kid. A genius. But what you got in that lab anyways that you paid so much money for? For 3 years, you just been taking every chance you got goin' into that place. It ain't even a real lab, you know? You just bought a storage area."
That was true. One day, Okimi just pooled up all his money and bought a storage area and a bunch of metal and electric parts. What he was building in there was unknown.
"Bye, dad. Love you."
"Yeah, okay."
Okimi stuffed some of the stuff in his backpack and the rest in a straw bag. He got in his Civic and drove off, excited and thinking about what he might get done that day.

Present Day
Okimi sighed and sipped his mug of coffee. He'd been in his lab for about 17 hours now. He checked his watch. 6:39. Oh, looks like it's actually been 25 and a half hours now, he thought. God, this'll be the death of me... He propped his phone on the wall, hit record, and began his next trial.
"Hello, this is Okimi Jackson. Starting trial 2,064 of "Project Jump". As everyone knows, four years ago, a catastrophic event occurred that dealt great amounts of damage to the world. But the strangest parts of this disaster were the individuals involved. For about 54 years, the incredibly popular Shonen Jump has introduced some of the most famous manga such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, My Hero Academia, and many more. But it seemed that during the disaster four years ago, often called the "Jump Crisis," the characters in these manga became
"How this was possible? We never got any answers, as one day, they all left, leaving no trace of their existence behind. Well, expect the trillions of dollars in damage. But this is where I come in. Since I was an elementary school boy, I have loved Shonen from the very bottom of my heart. And the "Jump Crisis" only got me even more interested. I decided, if no one was going to try and communicate with the Jump Worlds, then I will."
Okimi flipped a switch and the lights at the back of the storage turned on, revealing an 8-foot tall and 8-foot wide metal ring. It stood vertically, so you could walk right through it. Okimi went to his keyboard and typed in commands, then clicked enter. Immediately, loud humming came from it. "Only one thing left to add now," Okimi whispered. He dug inside his backpack and grabbed a glowing object. As the glare of light died down, the object showed its shape. It was a cube as big as the full size of his hand. It had crevices in it, with light oozing out. It was left here after the end of the Jump Crisis. What Okimi had in his hands right then was an Umbras Cube.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
