"Where the hell is she?" Shinsou said to himself, sipping on his beer with a sigh as he looked down at his phone. He realized that it was 11:30am, and slightly panicked; however he only panicked internally, of course.
2019 was gonna arrive before he could even find (Y/N).
"God damn it..." Shinsou grunted, smacking his forehead as he rolled his eyes, pondering what to do since (Y/N) wasn't going to come.
He thought for a moment, before remembering that beautiful terrace he'd seen from the backyard, that overlooked the hills before the house.
Shinsou wondered through the huge home, going up the stairs feeling aggravated for some reason before finally finding the terrance. There were over-dramatically large french-styled doors, which made Shinsou slightly chuckle before he opened the door.
"...(Y/N)?" He was shocked to see you at the railing already, looking out at the moon.
"Sorry for not answering the texts you sent. The music downstairs was giving me a migraine, so I had to leave." You explained quietly, rubbing your temples. He nodded, forgiving you silently as he treaded to the railing as well.
It was silent between you two; Shinsou sipped on his beer as though it was soda, observing the mountainous terrain overlooking the balcony.
You rested your chin on the railing, closing your eyes. The hum of loud music came from downstairs, vibrating the entire house; almost as if the house had a pulse. It made your head throb, so you chose to listen to the crickets' humming in the grass below.
"How has the party been for you...?" You asked quietly, lifting your chin from the railing. He thought for a moment, scratching his chin.

"Pretty shit." He said bluntly after a moment, a cheeky grin on his face as he lifted the bottle of beer up to his lips once more. You snorted, swatting him away.
"Same. I think you can tell." You said sarcastically, accidentally slurring your words. You stopped when you began to slur, covering your mouth.
Shinsou's face went blank.
"You're drunk?" He asked, not too surprised. You nodded, averting your eyes. You felt slightly embarrassed.
"That was quick..." He murmured, feeling the alcohol get to him as well. The beer crawled around in his asophagus, warming his insides up. Shinsou enjoyed how it felt.
People from inside began to enter the backyard, pouring in slowly. The both of you were slightly perplexed, but thankful for your views from the high-up balcony.
"So, what are you hoping for in the new year?" Shinsou asked, a hint of earnest emotion in his voice. You looked over at him, arching an eyebrow as you thought for a moment.
He simply stared, resting his chin on his hand as you were deep in thought.
"...Honestly, I thi-"
The two of you looked down, seeing the crowd of people in the large backyard chant loudly as they looked at the hillside.
You thought.
What do I want this year...
I want to be a good hero.
...I also want my friends.
But I feel like I'm missing something.
Your eyes wandered around, before you found yourself staring at Shinsou. His face was scrunched up, as he thought of the answer to his own question as well.
You found yourself smiling slightly, a blunt realization hitting you.
I want him.
Fireworks went off in the sky, startling you. Shinsou flinched as well, his beer almost dropping from his hands.
You cleared your throat, before managing to speak.

"Shinsou..." He looked over, arching an eyebrow.
You thanked yourself for drinking all the alcohol you did earlier, beginning to feel a lot of 'liquid courage'.
You reached for his neck swiftly, wrapping yourself around him as you kissed him. He was frozen, eyes wide open as he stumbled, caught off guard.
Eventually, he melted into the kiss and snaked his arms around your waist, pulling you closer. You let your pent-up feelings rush into your kiss, passion emitting from you.
The fireworks were an ombre of vibrant colors, their hues coloring the sky a rainbow of shades.
You let go of his neck, backing up. Shinsou rubbed his neck, not even sure what to say. So much went through his head at once. A blush found its way to the tip of his ears as he finally processed what had happened.
"What a good way to start the year." He said after a moment, letting a small smile peak through. You blushed, snickering.
"I'd say so as well." You hummed, ruffling his messy hair.
He stared at you for a moment, running a hand through his hair before sighing and letting a genuine grin show, his cheeks warming up.
"Happy New Years..." He mumbled, leaving a kiss on your forehead. You said the same back, a smile on your face.

This work has been dropped- because I am rewriting it. Look forward to the new and improved "A Broken World," now available HERE on Royal Road! Three thousand years ago, Demonic creatures invaded the world. Though their power seemed irresitable, a band of heroes managed to steal the knowledge of summoning rituals and worlds from them and created, "The Millenial Summoning." A powerful magic that would bring forth a being from another world with the power to change the world forever. The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods with him. Teaching prayers and invocations that blessed humanities legions and began to push back the demons, founding of the "The Church of the Spoken Word" rose to power and a stalemate was reached. Two thousand years ago, that stalemate was broken by the second casting of "The Millenial Summoning," and the arrival of "The First Sorceress," who taught humanity the basics of magic and enchanting. With the power of the Sorceress, the mages, and the priests the tide turned and the Demonic hordes began to be shoved back, signaling hopes of a golden age for mankind. One thousand years ago, the hopes of final victory and a new dawn for mankind were dashed by traitors who slew the participants of the ritual and took their places, using the ritual to bring forth a godlike being from the demons home world, "The Demon King," for no human knew his name, erased millenia of growth reducing humanity to barely a fragment of its former glory. Now the ritual is being cast again, and a new being is being summoned... In our world, after nearly two decades of studious work, Luke Jaeger is making his dream come true.
