You packed up your belongings in your small suitcase. Throwing clothes and anything else you think you could need until you can figure out what's next. You just had to get away.

Life wasn't good. You lost your job, your boyfriend was cheating on you with your best friend, and you just learned you were expecting his baby. The two of you were living together. Your parents disowned you, how could their daughter have a child before marriage? After all, this was 1958.

You ran out into the pouring rain without looking back. You left the door wide open as you ran down the street to the only place you truly felt safe. Once inside, you were greeted by the loud music playing over the speakers and the laughter of your schoolmates.

Ricky was in the corner strumming a guitar by himself. He was always shy with everyone except for you. You had basically grown up together. He seemed to be thinking. He lifted his eyes from the floor when he saw you looking distressed.

You approached him and sat next to his stool. You wiped the last of your tears and kept your head down to avoid unwanted attention.

"Do you want to go to my place?" You nodded.

The two of you walked out of the record store together and walked to his house which was a five minute walk.

Once inside, he took off his wet sweater and hung it up by the door. You did the same. He finally took notice of your suitcase and gave you a look of question.

His mother came into the room with a tray of hot chocolates before leaving the room for the two of you to talk.

He finally spoke, "why do you look like you ran away?"

"Because I did."

"What? I thought things were going well with Al."

"Al is nothing to me anymore."

"What happened?"

You held onto the warm mug like your life depended on it. Would Ricky cut connection with you too? Will his family throw you out of their home when they found out?

"He was cheating on me and..." you took a deep inhale. You felt your eyes water and you sobbed before you could get the words out.

"I'm pregnant with his baby." You expected him to get up and leave but instead he embraced you. He held you tight and put your mug down on the table.

"Does he know?" You shook your head. You planned to tell him, but the time never came.

"No. My parents found out and they were livid. They kicked me out of the house and I couldn't stay with him."

"Do you want to stay here?" He asked.

"Can I? But what will your parents say?" You searched his eyes for an answer. He didn't have one.

"We'll figure it out with time. Let's get you set up in the guest room. You need rest." He stood up and carried your suitcase to the downstairs guest bedroom.
