You had exactly forty-five minutes until your "date." If it's fair to call it that. You were going to the local diner with your best friend and neighbor, Ricky Nelson. He was a nice gentleman for his age. Most 18 year olds would rather be reckless but not Rick. His parents raised him right.

You put on your favorite dress and sat down at your vanity, putting on your usual minimal makeup when your bedroom door busted open. You'd recognize that silhouette anywhere. He leaned against the doorframe and watched you. You tried hard to ignore him and continued applying your mascara.

"Why do you feel the need to put that stuff on?" He stepped into your room and sat on the foot of the bed.

"Because I like it and I look pretty wearing it. Why?" You put your brush down and looked behind you.

"You're more beautiful without it." Rick looked at his shined shoes. Your heart felt like it expanded in your chest.

"Really?"

"Of course. You know I don't speak lies." You stood up from your seat and stood in front of him. He instinctively put his hands on your waist and your hands on his shoulders. He wouldn't look away from your eyes. If it was anyone else, you'd be uncomfortable.

"You are the most beautiful girl I've ever laid eyes on." He stood up and pulled you close.

"Why thank you, Rick. I think you're very handsome." You met his gaze, his dark brown hair gelled perfectly above his head.

His ocean blue eyes adorned with admiration and love, and it was just for you. His black button up was tucked into his nice jeans, and the top two buttons were left undone. There was something exceptionally charming about him and the way he just was.

He looked at his watch and saw that time had flown by, "we better go, don't wanna be late."

You smiled up at him before pressing a tender kiss onto his lips. He was caught off guard but began to kiss back. You two stood there in the middle of your bedroom, his arms pulling you closer to him— if that was possible. Your arms wrapped around his neck.

He pulled away and pressed his forehead to yours whispering, "you're the best thing to ever happen to me."
