and a spice of lore for the og 13
sum history :
The Roanoke colony was founded on what is now Roanoke Island, North Carolina, in 1585 by governor Ralph Lane. That settlement later failed and in 1587 John White led a second colony on the same island.
This is super interesting to me because as the colonial era progressed from this, the 13 colonies developed, but they sort of developed separately if that makes sense.
Right after the American Revolution, before the ratification of the constitution and the bill of rights and such, the colonies acted as their own countries for a while, and if you asked someone from Virginia in 1790 what their nationality was, they would probably say Vrginian, not American.
With this information, i like to imagine that the original 13 colonies came into existence much earlier than America himself, making them mostly all older than him.
and that starts with Roanoke.
When the settlement led by John White came to the area, a small boy was found on the island with no parents or anyone else with him. He most certainly wasn't one of the natives, as he had a fair white complexion and wore english style clothing. This young boy was the personification of the Roanoke colony.
England (the ch) was notified that a personification of the colony had appeared, giving faith that the english had made a permanent settlement in North America.
Roanoke continued to live with the colony up until its "mysterious" disappearance in 1590.
You know how the story goes; when John White returned from England in 1590, the people had disappeared and the word 'CROATOAN' was carved into a tree trunk.
But not everyone had left. Roanoke was found by White hiding in a bush and sobbing that he didn't know where everyone went and was scared.

Roanoke didn't remember anything because the mystery of the lost colony is, well, still a mystery. No one knows 100% what happened, and there can only be speculations. Roanoke was in fact there to watch what happened to the colony, but doesn't remember because no one else remembers.
So, after White's abandoned search party for the colonists, he took Roanoke back to England, where he stayed there up until the 1650s, when people started to permanently settle and populate the area.
Roanoke had barely grown at all during this time, because the original settlement wasn't developing. He also had a very bland personality because there were no people populating his land.
The reason Roanoke stayed a personification and didn't dissolve, was because, as claimed by Sir Walter Raleigh, England made a claim to the land, and was still theirs. So little Roanoke didn't disappear.
He went back to his home in 1653 (along with the first permanent settlement in the Carolina colony) and his name was changed to Carolina.
Carolina went back to living among his people as do most personifications.
Not much happened until the 1680s-90s when the northern and southern regions of the colony began to show differences and were evolving separately. Since Carolina was originally from the northern half of the colony, he sided with the people of Northern Carolina. This led to the creation of a new personification to represent the entirety of the Carolina colony (leading Carolina to change his name to Northern Carolina). The two personifications started to resent each other, and in 1712 a formal split of the northern and southern regions was done. Northern Carolina became just North Carolina, and Carolina became South Carolina.
So with that being said, North Carolina is actually the oldest out of the og 13 and brags about it to the others lol.
tl;dr: The Roanoke Colony had a personification which became the Carolina colony but the north and south became separate so he actually became North Carolina.
*also! i used some proper capitalization in this chapter bc i realized that when you tried to read it without the capitalization is just looked like one big run-on sentence😭😭
*stay tuned bc i may end up doing something like this for Jamestown! (if y'all wanna see that lmk)

Unliving
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon, November 2021] For the longest time, Aideen Fiachna had only one prescient wish; to be the daughter her parents could take pride in. The idea was a tall order, especially as her father stood at the head of the Templar order, and her grandfather as the Pope. However, she endeavored to try nonetheless. Yet fate had a different path in store for her. For all her efforts, all her best laid plans, were but the broken off crumbs of 'one day'. That day, she was brutally slain by a vile, accursed undead being. Though, not even restful eternity awaited her in death. She awakened inside a coffin. Her coffin. During her own funeral wake. Discovering, to her horror, that she had risen. Not somehow resurrected, no, but back in the form of that most hated of beings--the curse of undeath. What will fate deal her next? Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. --------------------------------------- Expect: -Character progression in a journey of self discovery that spanned the ages -World building -Tragedy and Comedy in roughly equal measures -Occasional action Do not expect: -Much in terms of romance -Politics, barring passing views and mentions -A lighthearted tale. This story will be a good bit grimmer than my previous one Any comments, reviews, and criticism will be much appreciated. And thank you for reading. --------------------------------------- Disclaimer: This story is my original work and only posted on the Royal Road website. If you should find this story elsewhere or under another name, please let me know. Also please don't be too hard on me when I make occasional grammatical mistakes, English is my third language after all. XD Edit suggestions are very welcome though.
8 152The Helena Chronicles
Espers are really no different than humans; they look like any normal human and in general behave like any normal human. However, there are a few key differences. The max life expectancy of espers ranges from forty-five to fifty. They naturally have a knack for mathematics and are extremely intelligent in general, this is because their abilities rely on the subconscious and conscious calculations. They also have a mysterious energy source they call Focus that is generated naturally by all espers. The continent of Elestveeve is populated by three major factions, each a governing force. On the west of the continent, there is the Noble Houses that subscribe to the Deity Faith. The Houses ruling with the Deity Faith as council since the religion's founding four-hundred years previous. Controlling most of the northeast is WITCH, an organization ruled by powerful espers; claiming the mysterious Genesis as their capital, they are a whispered myth among much of the continent's less technically advanced residents. In the southeast you have Tech City, a towering monolith of a capital with four sky layers and metropolis' leveled deep underground; it is a city brimming with technical advancement and cyber integration. Each faction contends with one another for their evolutionary ideology, by devout religious worship to receive miraculous gifts, unique genetic lineage to obtain ESP, and technological integration to become something more than human. Helena, a young genius and esper, awakes in a dark room with only fuzzy memories and the company of seven other children. She must determine how she got there and how to get back to where she came from. Warning: Due to time constraints, I don't have the time to keep up on my three stories; therefore, Helena will need to go in a stasis chamber until I can find more time to write between work and life. I love my first girl so much! however, it seems she is the least popular among the fans (the poor girl T_T). This world is much bigger than my other two novels and I'm not giving up on it, but simply having to put her on ice.

*Dropped* What would you do if your world changed? If your neighbours suddenly turned into savage beasts, their nature changed on a fundamental level. What if that savage beast was you? Johnathan Simmons was not a successful man, nor did he have a particularly interesting life, he lived alone with his sick mother and worked whatever jobs he could to pay the bills but his world changes completely when he becomes a monster. Note- This is the first time I have written anything but I have a solid idea of where the story is going and what I want to happen, I can't promise my uploading rate won't be sporadic as I have other committments but if this gets big enough I'll definitely work up a schedule. Please leave comments if I've made any errors/ if you have anything you'd like to see in the story. This is pretty much just for fun so I don't mind working things in. Thank you ever so much!

She finds herself in chains aboard a ship in the Caribbean, a prison realm set in 1675, in the age of sail. Oversight is corrupt and the guards are violent. And this also happens to be the golden age of piracy. Yo ho, yo ho. It's a pirate's life for Mei. Book 1 Mei arrives in the Caribbean and battles for her freedom against the devilish English navy, is kidnapped by Caribs, and comes face-to-face with a jaguar. She recruits fellow prisoners in an attempt to steal a boat and flee the prison colony. Book 2 Mei and her crew arrive in Sint Maartin and learn that the French and the Dutch are at war! As Lance, Juan, and Cheeto face their pasts, the crew becomes privateers. Their first prize: a ship full of rum and a week of drunken debauchery in Curacao. 8 218Whims and Rolls of Gods
What happens when one creates a story then leaves everything to chance? Thousands of paths stretch out endlessly that separate into even more, countless paths. And then, all but one is destroyed with a single roll of a twenty-sided die. The die becomes the true author while the writer just provides possibilities then takes a backseat and narrates. This story will be random. To save time, the characters and some of the events will be somewhat generic, but past that all bets are off. It will create tropes and then shatter them. Characters can and will die. Even the writer doesn’t know how this story will play out. The die is the god of this world that rolls and everything it says goes. The writer is the god of this world whose whims become reality after the die rolls. Cover art was done by PrimalAvatar from INKed.
