《The Monster With A Soul - Dwayne (Lost Boys)》Chapter Eight

Dwayne had locked Christine inside of her bedroom. She bangs on the door, begging him to let her out. He was convinced she was unstable, and did not think she was calm enough to be around anyone. She threw her whole body against the wooden door, trying to break it down past Dwayne's stance.
"Dwayne!" she cries. "Please! Open the goddamn door! I'm sorry!"
"Are you?"
"You know why I did it! Just let me out!"
Dwayne leans on the door, putting all of his body weight on it. Suddenly, the banging stops. Curiously, Dwayne puts his ear to the door. He hears her hysterical sobbing from inside, but is muffled by the pillows she used to conceal some of the noise. He knew that she was not going to stop any time soon, so he opens the door, but does not let her out.
Christine goes up to Dwayne, and slaps him across the face. She starts cursing him out, calling him every offensive name in the book. He responds with picking her up and setting her on the bed. He pins her down by her arms and legs, trying to steady her. He hushes her, reassuring her that everything is okay. She spits in his face in protest. He wipes it off with the back of his hand, looking down at her.
"Do I have to treat you like a child?" he asks, almost smirking. He had found what she did amusing. "Because you're really starting to act like one."
Frustrated, Christine gets Dwayne off of her. She takes his arm and tries pulling him out of her room. He refuses to move, making her seem incredibly weak.
"Are you going to leave, or do I have to push you out of here myself?"

"I thought you didn't want to be in here," Dwayne argues.
"Yeah, but if it means I'm away from you, it suddenly sounds like a good idea. Now, get out!"
"I'm not leaving," Dwayne says, sitting down on the bed. He beckons her forth. "And neither are you."
Dwayne pats at a spot next to him on the mattress, wanting her to back away from the door. After a moment of hesitation, Christine sits on the bed next to him.
"And you know what else really annoys me about you?" she asks. "That stupid grin of yours. Whenever you look at me it's there, and-"
"Hey!" he interrupts, closing her mouth with his hand. "You're cute and all when you get angry, but just shut up!"
Dwayne takes hold of Christine's neck with his hands, pulling her into what would become a make out session before she can argue in protest. He lays down while she gets on top of him. They slowly undress each other...

The two of them woke up next to each other, still completely nude. Christine turns to Dwayne, smiling. Last night was not so bad for either of them. In fact, they had quite a good time. The barrier that once stood between them had been demolished, and their feelings for each other became very clear. Dwayne cups Christine's cheek, looking into those blue eyes of purity.
"No one can know about this," Christine mutters, touching his hand. "Okay?"
"Why does it matter?" Dwayne asks, not believing it was a big deal.
"If they find out that we...yeah...then they might not trust you! What if they kill you, all because of me? You see why I wanted to end it all last night? I don't want to put anyone else in danger!"

Dwayne rolls over to face the ceiling, rubbing his eyes.
"Do you want to know the real reason why I followed you home that one night?" Dwayne asks her, sitting up in the bed. She looks confused, but suddenly intrigued. She nods at him. "Yes, you reminded me of my wife, but it drove me insane. Every time I would see you, I saw her. I thought about getting rid of you, and I almost did that night. I didn't want any memory of her, and you were the only thing keeping that alive. I thought that if I killed you, then I could forget her. But then, I heard your voice. It wasn't like hers, I had finally found a difference. I told myself that you would be the one person that I would never kill. I knew that I could never move on by simply killing off anyone that reminded me of her, so I tried getting over her like a human being.
"When you showed up in the hotel, I panicked. Of course, I wanted someone to pay for Marko, but I made a promise to myself. I convinced David to let you survive, but he only accepted on one condition: if I turned you into one of us. I didn't want to, I knew it was wrong. But before I could stop you, you did it all on your own. David got what he wanted from us, and now, he's about to get vengeance for Marko...with your brothers."
"Guys!" Paul calls from outside. "Get in here!"
After dressing, they join Paul and David. Christine could barely move, she was filled with anxiety. She knew why they had called this meeting: they were about to kill Edgar and Alan.
"Now that you're almost one of us," David says. "It's time to finish the job. Kill one of your brothers tonight, and we'll let that other boy and brother go. Understood?"
Christine could not choose one of her brothers, that would be like picking favorites. She rapidly shakes her head. Edgar and Alan talked about how a vampires transformation was fully complete after their first kill. She could not let herself hurt anyone, especially her family, while she still had a chance at freedom.
"Alright," David sighs. "Guess you'll just have to watch. Let's go, boys!"
Dwayne takes an arm of Christine's, acting like he is dragging her, but is actually trying to protect her. She looks up at him, fear screaming from her eyes. Her jaw locked, unable to speak. A horrible vision came to her mind. Along with her brothers, this would be her last day alive.

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.
