Livie pushed the door that led to the roof top terrace at Sebastian's apartment open and walked out inhaling the cool air. She shivered and mentally cursed herself for not grabbing a sweater or sweatshirt before coming to Seb's.
"Here." Chace walked out behind her seconds later, tossing her his black hooded jacket.
"Thanks." She laughed as she caught it. She pulled it over her arms and snuggled into it. "I guess the cold weather is officially here."
"I think that it is." Chace agreed looking out over the skyline.
"So, Tessa's a part of the group then now?" Livie glanced at Chace as she sat down on a nearby patio chair.
Chase shrugged, "We're just hanging out."
"Like we hung out?" Livie regretted saying it the moment it left her lips.
Chase gave her an amused smile, "Are you asking if I've slept with her?"
"No, forget I said anything."
"I'll choose to not answer that." He looked away.
"She sure is making herself comfy. I don't want her stealing one of my best friends away."
"JJ is nothing if not loyal to you." Chase assured her with a chuckle.
"I didn't mean JJ." Livie's eyes met his.
"Ouch. Saying it out loud hurts. Friend Zoned." He laughed sitting down in the chair opposite her.
Livie rolled her eyes, "Let's talk about something else, shall we?"
"Sure." Chace agreed, "You're coming to my Halloween party Saturday, right?"
"Wouldn't miss it. Never have. But I wanted to ask.... would it be ok if Chris came?" She winced as she asked.
"Oh." Chace ran his hands along his pants over his thighs, "Yeah that's cool. I mean he is your boyfriend."
"Thank you. It won't be awkward for you will it?"
"No." He said softly with a smile.
Livie returned his smile, "What are you dressing up as this year?"
"You'll have to wait and see!" He teased her, his eyes wide.
"Not fair! We always planned our costumes together!"

"That's cause we always went as a couple." He reminded her.
That was true. Livie thought back over the past couple Halloweens. Last year they had gone as Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf. The year before that, a sailor and a mermaid. One year they were Sandy and Danny from Grease.
"It will be weird not dressing up together this year." Livie said thoughtfully out loud.
Chace shrugged. "You and Chris going to do a theme?"
"I don't know. I don't even have my costume planned yet." She frowned. "Are you and Tessa?"
Chace shook his head, "Nah. I'm flying solo this year."
"Well I cannot wait to see what you are. I guess I need to figure out who I'll be."
"You'll think of something great you always do."
They stayed outside talking on the terrace until Livie was shivering and practically turning blue from being cold.
"I got our Halloween costumes." Livie told Chris over the phone a couple days later.
"Oh it's a costume party?"
"Yeah of course!" Livie laughed.
"Ok, so what will we be?"
"Gatsby and Daisy." Livie squealed excitedly.
"Oh so you get the fun dress and I get the stiff suit and bowtie." He laughed.
"No I got you the white suit. And a cane! You will be Jay Gatsby himself darling!"
"Ok I trust you."
"It's going to be so much fun! I'm so glad you're coming. Seb will be there and he always dresses up as something crazy. Last year he was King Kong."
"King Kong?"
"Yeah he wore an ape suit all night. It was ridiculous."
"What were you last year?"
"Little Red Riding hood."
"Really? You still have the costume?" He asked slyly.
"Matter of fact I do. Maybe it will make an appearance if you're a good boy."
"I'm always a good boy!"
"Not always I hope."
Chris laughed. "I should go before this conversation takes a turn. I will talk to you later tonight and see you Saturday morning."

"Ok." Livie smiled as she hung up turning her attention back to work.
Friday night JJ came over to Livie's after she got home from work.
"Hey what did you decide to dress up as tomorrow?" Livie called from the kitchen.
"I went with the maroon steampunk outfit."
"Oh I loved that one! You will look hot! Seb will be wiping the drool." Livie said confidently as she walked into the living room and handed JJ a glass of wine.
JJ shrugged, "Do you have any idea what he's dressing up as? Or Chace?"
"Nope." Livie shook her head, "Well you know Seb never tells us. And Chace and Dex are both being super secretive as well. I'm sure they have something up their sleeves."
"And Chris comes tomorrow?"
Livie nodded excitedly. "Oh speak of the devil." She answered her phone, "We were just talking about you."
"You were? All good I hope."
"Always."
"Well I hope you don't change that when we finish this conversation."
"That sounds cryptic. What's going on?"
"I'm going to have to cancel coming this weekend."
"What? Why? Is everything ok?" Livie asked her voice full of concern.
"Well yes and no. One of my best friends from here, her dad is really sick and she asked me to hang out with her this weekend."
"She?" Livie repeated.
"Yeah, don't read to much into that. We've been friends since middle school. Her name is Mandy and I'm close with her family."
"But I already got our costumes."
"I know babe and I'm sorry it's last minute. It's not looking good for her dad right now. You understand right?"
"Of course." Livie forced a smile.
"Ok I'm still on set. I will call you as soon as I'm home."
"Bye." She said but he had already hung up.
"What's wrong?" JJ frowned.
"Chris won't be coming after all. Come on." Livie jumped up setting her wine glass down on the coffee table.
"Where are we going?"
"To exchange my costume."
Livie smiled at JJ as they entered the private bar/lounge in Greenwich that Chace had rented out for his party. Livie had exchanged her Gatsby and Daisy costumes for her own Steampunk one. In a tight black corset and thigh high boots she was definitely the opposite of Daisy. Her makeup was done dramatically and her hair in loose curls. She searched the room till her eyes landed on Chace and she burst out laughing. He was dressed as a Ghostbuster. He caught her eye and a smile lit up his face. He excused himself and walked over to her and JJ.
"You look sexy as hell Livie." Chace looked her over. "You too JJ." He grinned.
"Thank you. You look like....an 8 year old."
"Oh wait!" JJ laughed, "It gets better!' Livie turned to look. Dex and Seb were both Ghostbusters too.
"What happened to flying solo?" Livie laughed.
"I'm full of surprises. As it appears you are too. Where's your date?"
"You're looking at her." Livie looped her arm through JJ's.
"Well come in. Have a drink, or two." He took her other arm in his and lead the way to the bar.
Livie couldn't help but be angry with Chris for blowing her off this weekend. And while she understood he was being there for a friend he still had cancelled on her to hang out with another woman. She did her best to not think about it allowing the alcohol to help her do so.
Twirling around out on the dance floor with a drink her hand Livie hadn't had this much fun in a while. Chace joined her offering her another drink.
"Thank you!" She called over the music. She looked around, "Tessa here?"
Chace shook his head no.
"Darn." She replied sarcastically before draping one arm over his shoulder and moving her hips towards him.
His arm snaked around her lower back and he leaned in his lips brushing her neck. Whispering something in her ear Livie threw her head back and laughed. When she opened her eyes, she was surprised to see Chris across the room. And by the look on his face he wasn't very happy.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
