《The Spark of Balance: The Realm of Mianite (Book 1)》Ch27- The tank of Judgement

Claire POV-
"Tank of Judgement! Tank of Judgement!"chanted Tom as they awaited instructions from the priest.
They were all very nervous and confused, yet they still had time for jokes at a time like this. It was as if they were throng to calm their nerves, honestly Jordan couldn't blame them, she was very nervous herself. The ambiance was terrifying as it was, not to mention she had an actual problem with that physics defying tank, she would solve the physics involved!
" There has been some unforgiving behavior..." said the priest with his loud deep voice.
They all looked at each other, aware that they were all guilty of that crime, yet Tom and Tucker still had enough humor to make sacrifice chants in the background.
"The gods aren't happy with the violence spread across the land..."
"So.. who's first?"
Jordan was afraid that they would have to fight to go last, Tucker surprised them all instantly.
"Me! Me first!" Screamed Tucker.
The other couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm. That was one of the great things about Tucker, he wasn't afraid to take on a challenge.
"What are we even getting judged for?" Said Sonja.
"All I know is that Jordan did it" said Tom jokingly
Before a fight could arise from that comment the priest stretched out his hand and began chanting something. If Jordan wasn't weirded out before, she was now.
"Stand very still" he told Tucker. Tucker did as he was told and held back his laughter.
Tucker was then teleported to the tank above them. He wasn't burning or anything so everyone started questioning what would happen. Would the gods even show up?
"3.2.1" said the priest slowly. Then the tank filled up with water, Tucker barely had enough time to take a deep breath. Sonja screamed, worried that he would drown to death, she tried to get her bow ready to try to break the glass but turns out she didn't have to. The water only stayed for a few seconds then disappeared out of thin air.
"You have passed!" Said the priest. Jordan and Sonja cheered in glee happy to see their friend had passed the judgement.
Tom on the other hand couldn't believe it.
"No!" Tom screamed. "That's impossible"
Tucker was teleported next to the priest, he made his way down the cliff and back to his original spot. He looked very pleased and not at all surprised, before settling down at his spot he went over to Sonja and gave her a big hug as he wipped her tears away. Jordan couldn't think of a bad thing Tucker had done during the war so she wasn't surprised either, just happy her friend was safe.
"This is the UN" Jordan blurted our as a joke, it wasn't until she realized they didn't know what the United Nations was that she had to explain it to them to make the joke more relevant. It was after that everyone laughed at the accuracy of the joke, their laughter was then broken up by the priest.
"Who is next?" The priest said.
"I'll go" said Jordan, she was somewhat confident that she hadn't committed any huge crimes so this should be easy. Right?
She was immediately teleported to the levitating tank. It was smaller than it looked, she could barely move while inside of it. It was long but not wide, her arms were brushing against the sides of the rectangular tank making it extremely uncomfortable.

"Ahhhhhh" said the priest curiously.
"Ianite armor?" He said surprised. It only occurred to her that is was the first time he had seen it, it was curious how he could identify it just by glancing at it.
"Give me it" he said as he broke a side of the tank and put a chest in its place. She didn't know what to do, Mianite had told her not to trust anyone with it.
It looked like she had no choice, the priest just glared at her until she put it in the chest. Then he stared at her, gave her an evil smile.
"What did I do?" She asked, she wasn't aware she had done anything wrong but the way he was looking at her indicated otherwise. Instead of giving her a response he bagan calling his magic.
"3.2.1" said the priest before the water appeared in the tank once again.
Jordan held her breath for as long as she could. It had been close to 30 seconds since the water had appeared and she was loosing her breath.
The test hadn't lasted as long on Tucker, was she going to drown?
Then when she couldn't hold her breath anymore she began to let it go, accepting her fate that the gods clearly deemed her death necessary. That's when the water disappeared instantly and she fought to catch her breath. Breathing deeply she tried to gather as much air as possible, surprisingly she was no longer wet, it must be the priest's magic she thought.
Everyone else was shocked that she had been there so long, they were all screaming her name at once, she could barely hear it though, all she could focus on was inhaling more and more air. That's all that mattered.
She then looked the direction of the priest for any signs of what had just happened. It was then he spoke again.
"They changed their minds." He said slowly
"You pass!" He said in a more excited tone.
Everyone screamed in glee. While Tom chanted "One of us!"over and over.
She got back up and gathered her armor for the chest and put it back on, then the priest teleported her by his side. Still recovering from the shock she stood there next to him for a while, apparently she wasn't allowed to be there, so he pushed her down the small hill.
They all laughed for a few seconds until Sonja was teleported up to the tank without notice. If there was someone who had truly not done anything, it was Sonja. It was because of that fact that Jordan expected her trial to go quickly like Tucker's.
"You have been nice to the land. But not to me. I see no gifts for your priest" said the priest.
Sonja panicked and began putting potatoes in the chest for him. He looked inside and didn't seem pleased by her gift.
"Give me your best weapon!" He said. She then turned very serious and glared down at Tom.
"Ask for it from Tom!" She said.
Before their revenge Tom had killed Sonja and had all of her stuff, hence why they were so happy about the revenge plan. Jordan hadn't been there, she heard about it during her tour of the Miante temple just hours ago, she was asleep when it happened. Tom looked nervous as the priest gave him a big glare, almost like the one a father would give his son when he was disappointed.

All he could manage to say was " I wasn't ready!"
They all laughed at his silly comments while he seemed to be being eaten by regret.
"This is all I'm left with" said Sonja as she put her diamond sword in the chest along with more potatoes, she really did seem to care and the priest could tell.
"Fine." He said
"10.9.8..." he said as the water appeared on the tank. They all looked at each other surprised.
10! She wasn't gonna make it that long, Sonja could tell that too as she began to concentrate more on holding her breath. Jordan wondered what on Mianite's name she had done to upset the gods, but nothing came to mind, Sonja was the most innocent out of all of them.
"7.6" he said before the water suddenly stopped. They, along with Sonja, catched their breaths. That was close, and none of them knew why she was almost subjected to drowning. She looked surprised but happy at the same time.
She had been spared.
Was this just a way for the gods to let them know what would happen if they did do something bad? Both her and Sonja hadn't done any major crimes, it didn't make sense.
Sonja was teleported down and Tucker gave her a big hug before she returned to her original spot. It was then that they all realized who was next...Tom. If anyone would get reked it would be him.
"You better run!" Said Tucker jokingly. Tom put all Marlin in a chest where his original spot was and ran away as fast as he could. They were all surprised he actually ran, but they laughed because they knew he couldn't escape his fate. He could run, but couldn't hide form the priest.
"Save Marlin" he screamed.
Before anyone had a chance to think about helping him the priest came down from his ledge and opened the chest were Marlin was in. He grabbed the small fish and teleported Tom to the tank at once. The bottom of the tank was covered with obsidian so he couldn't see what was going on, the priest then held Marlin over the fire, all they could do was laugh and watch.
"Thomas...why must you cause pain to your gods?" He said as he lowered his arm closer to the fire.
"I must cause pain to you" said the priest as three of his fingers let go of Marlin, before he let go of the last one he looked up at the tank and smiled.
"Bye bye" he said as he dropped marlin in the fire.
Maybe it was just shock, but the all stood there laughing while Tom screamed his lungs off not knowing what had just happened . Before they had a chance to tell him, the priest chanted a spell and instead of water filling up the tank as before, lava appeared, burning Tom to death. It was very disturbing to watch, luckily once he died, he spawned back home, it didn't last long.
"Oh no! I had everything on me. All of my good stuff! Nooooo!" Tom screamed from home. They all laughed at the karma the world had displayed, this should stop him from staring a war ever again, then again this was Tom, he probably wouldn't learn from his mistakes.
"It's all over" Jordan said jokingly
"It's all over now" said Sonja relieved.
Then the priest spoke up once more , this time he joined them under the tank.
"I ask for one thing. Peace. No blood shall be shed between anyone...for now." He said ominously
It seemed hard to believe due to their life style but Jordan was certainly willing to try. Tom was another story. Speaking of Tom, his silhouette became visible in the distance around that time. He had no armor or weapon as he was running around in the dark like a mad man.
They expected him to just make a joke or something once he arrived, instead he tried to kill the priest with his fists. The priest looked unamused or scared, he pulled out his diamond sword and killed Tom with one hit. They all laughed for what seemed like ages, even the priest, Tom also laughed at himself for not thinking of a plan. It was like, the old times then, it was like peace was truly restored. Then the priest addressed Tom personally once he made his way back.
"Dianite was not happy with how you shed blood so easily Tom, he wanted more devious acts of revenge" said the priest seriously.
Tom couldn't even fathom a response, he looked shocked that his evil acts were not appreciated by his own god who he decided to follow once more. To Jordan this seemed like a warning from Dianite to Tom, letting him know not to step out of line again, Jordan was afraid for Tom if he did.
It was then that he asked for Marlin back from the priest. They all had to tell him how the priest had burned him, he looked truly hurt. For a moment she felt bad for him, she knew how much that fish meant to him, then the oddest thing happened.
Marlin joined the world communicator.
"I will live forever!" Marlin said with a childlike voice.
They all looked at each other perplexed, even the priest looked as shocked as they were. There was silence for a few minutes, then they all began laughing at the weirdness of the situation. There truly was no weirder place than Minaite, Jordan though. Then Jordan remembered something she truly wanted to see.
"Will the Modesteps and Nade be subjected to the tank of Judgement?" Jordan asked, that lit up everyone's faces with happiness.
The priest stood there for a moment thinking to himself, he then teleported to his ledge and spoke up.
"You are right! I forgot about them. This will be fun! I'm sure the gods will be most pleased."said the priest as he began to cast his spells once more.
Then the Modesteps and Nade appeared before them. The three of them looked confused, two of them were even wearing their nightgowns. Once they saw the set up and the priest they didn't stand there to question it and made a run for it. The four of them were getting ready to chase after them. The priest gave them a hand gesture telling them to stay, they obliged.
Then, the priest teleported them back and put shackles on them, pinning them down to the ground tight. They all kneeled down trying to remove the shackles but it was no use, they wouldn't be able to escape.
"Now, which of you is first?" Said the priest happily as the dark sky filled with the sight of lightning and the sound of thunder.
It was time for the most anticipated judgements. Jordan couldn't wait to see their faces as the gods gave them what they deserved. This was true justice...

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
