Estelle's POV

As soon as I heard Danielle yelling, my heart dropped to my feet. She'd taken it so well, so well. It was almost too good to be true, that someone could experience something so world altering and remain so calm.

The guys and I were on our feet immediately, exchanging worried glances. The mind link to Levi was shut, but not locked, and I was able to push in, letting his emotions seep into me. Rejection.

Oh god.

I ran to the edge of the clearing. They were stood up, and she was still yelling.

"What do we do," someone behind me asked in a low, concerned voice. I shook my head, biting my lip.

"There isn't anything."

I watched as Danielle began to run, deep into the forest. Levi swayed slightly, staggering as if he'd just been shot.

I was by his side in an instant. "What happened?" I whispered, watching my brother try and pull himself together.

"She's so mad, so upset... she doesn't want any of this," he looked like he was on the verge of a breakdown. A murmur rippled through the group - a rejection from Danielle wouldn't just mean a rejection for Levi, it was a rejection of the entire pack, as she was destined to be luna.

"I need to go after her, I need to explain -" he muttered, eyes wide and face hurt.

I grabbed his arm. "No, leave her. The guys will follow her, make sure she's safe. But she needs to come to terms with this on her own."

I nodded as the rest, and they ran off silently into the woods.

"Levi..." I whispered, wrapping my arms around his waist. He let me hug him, and eventually leaned into me.

"It hurts so much," his voice was raw. I'd only ever heard about mate rejection, it was so rare. I mean, who wouldn't want to be with the one person designed to make them happy? Apparently it was the most painful experience our kind could ever go through. No one really recovers, not fully anyway.

Part of me hoped like crazy that Danielle would come to terms with this, would realise that this, the pack and Levi, was her destiny, that she wouldn't finalise the rejection. I felt for her, she didn't know what she was doing and she would be in just as much pain right now too. But another part of me was giving up, becoming dark and desperate. What would this mean for all of us?
