"Remember. I'm in charge. We're not stealing the scroll, we're retunung it to the library after we learn airjitzu." Jay said as the ninja crept up onto a roof.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Cole said.
"And we're ninja. Let's keep it quiet." Jay added. The others nodded.
"Ninja-go...." They whispered.
"Og-ajnin." Zane said.
Things were going well until on one roof, Jay fell through.
"AHH! Get out of here, you blue pervert!" A lady screamed. Jay climbed up.
"Let's try to be a little more quiet this time? Last time I checked, we're ninja." Jay said again. The others rolled their eyes.
. . .
Ronin was minding his own business. He set down the vase with a suspicious looking scroll in it. He sighed and walked over to the window. Ronin jumped in his head as a green arrow pointed at his face.
"Soul Archer. Heh, I thought I'd have a little more time." Ronin backed up
"I'm a little short."
"I'll return for your debt later. For now, I came for something else." Soul Archer said.
"If this is about our kast-- Oh!!" Ronin backed into Morro, who snuck behind him.
"Oh, Morro." Ronin said.
"You're friends were just here. Hey, where's Lloyd, by the way?" The thief asked.
"Save the casuals, Ronin. Where's the scroll of airjitzu?" Morro asked.
"The scroll of who-what-tzu?" Ronin said.
"Love the honor, a little digued up, I'll make you a fair offer." Ronin said.
Morro grabbed Ronin's clothes and pinned him against the wall.
"Argh! Wow, that's new from you." Ronin said.
"Just tell me where the scroll is, I'll leave right away." Morro said.
"I'll tell you what I told the others, it's not here, but I'll trade it for... Five hundred?..." Ronin said.
Faint sounds of Jay, and it was definetly Jay, from the roof. Ronin was about to scream when Neran placed a spare towel he found on the counter over Ronin's mouth to keep him quiet.
"We should wait for them to find it first." Neran suggested.
Soul Archer agreed and gestured to a room to the side. Morro folded Ronin's arms behind him and pushed him to the room. He found some rope and tied Ronin's hands back. Neran then taped Ronin's mouth shut.
Glass shattered.
"Great. Now we're already on the hook for breaking and entering." Cole said to the others.
"
I don't like sneaking around in the dark any more than you do, so let's just find the scroll and get out of here." Kai said.
"Hey, when you guys were leaders, you never heard me complain!" Jay whisper shouted as he scanned the shelves.
"And if you don't like sneaking around, why become a ninja?" Jay spotted the vase that Ronin was holding earlier.
"And leave no stone unturned." Jay picked up the vase to look under it.
"The faster we can find the scroll, the faster that we can learn the next clue that will lead us to the tomb. Then we'll slap some some sense into Morro, find whatever is in that tomb, and... I dunno what's after that." Jay said.
"I thought you said he could make a deal with him." Morro whispered.
"Well, I was wrong, I guess. Not all ghosts know each other." Neran whispered back.
"Yeah, youre just a kid." Morro said.
"I'm the same age as you!"
"What age is that?"
"..." Neran was stumped there. Soul Archer stealthily walked through the door and followed Jay.

"Oh, now I know, we'll wake up Lloyd and save the day, all because of me." Jay pulled a cloth off an organ.
"Ah, I found it!" Cole exclaimed.
"You found the scroll?" Jay asked.
"No, but I found my fathers trophy, I'm taking it back. He danced hard for this." Cole picked up the blade cup.
A slight sound of an instrument crept up behind Jay. Soul Archer had possessed the organ and wrapped around Jay.
"HOLY PIPES! THE ORGAN'S GOT MEEEEE!" Jay shouted. The ninja started to panic.
"Uh-- uh, it's possessed by a ghost! I forgot what we're supposed to do!" Cole shouted.
"WATER! WATER!!" Jay cried.
"I got water!" Kai grabbed a vase with a flower in it, but it was fake. Not water.
"Hey! These flowers are fake!" Kai pointed out.
"Uh we're on a village built entirely over water. PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME!!" Jay screamed, pushing the pipes away from himself. Cole threw his trophy and Kai threw the fake flower pot, Zane catching both of them.
"Aha!" Cole pulled a water dispencer off it's place and threw it on the organ. A slight green blur ran out before the water splashed on it. Jay was free.
Morro leaned against the wall by the door as he shielded his ears from Jay's screaming. Neran did the same. Jay screamed loud.
"Tsohg rehtona!" Zane said.
"I think he said: another ghost!" Kai translated the best he could.
"That's not the only one." Soul Archer held the allied armor up and it glowed, ghosts filling the room and chaos starting.
Morro glanced out the door. Ghosts. A lot. He flinched and looked back at his sling bag. The armor was gone. Soul Archer took it right from his bag. Morro looked at Neran, shocked. Neran shrugged.
"We're gonna need more water!" Cole shouted. Zane threw away the chalices he was holding. Ronin jumped to his feet and ran out the door.
"You gonna go after him?" Neran asked Morro.
"Uh..." Morro walked to the door way and just kinda watched.
"Cut me free!" Ronin jumped beside Kai.
"Not until you give me the scroll!" Kai said. He ducked as a ghost flew over head.
"You're not the only one who can make a deal." Kai said.
"Then at least take an Aeroblade and get rid of a few of these ghosts!" Ronin shouted.
"You said they were hard to come by!" Kai shouted.
"I'm a business man, that was business." Ronin ducked again.
"This is personal! Now cut me free!" Ronin jumped to avoid the ghosts.
"Not before we check out the merchandise!" Kai grabbed an Aeroblade and jt started to glow. He threw it and it went through a ghost, it disappearing shortly after.
"Woah." Morro said, still at the door way.
"Hah! They work! Try these!" Kai threw them to the others. The ninja started to fight back the ghosts. Jay threw his and it flew right to Morro. The master of wind caught the blade and quickly there it away.
"Holy, learn how to use those before you swing it!" Morro shouted.
"Oh, hey, Morro's here." Jay said. It seemed like the room went a little quiet.
"OH, MORRO'S HERE!"
Jay's throw also cut Ronin's ropes and he was freed. Ronin immediately went into a lock with Morro. Neran ran around to the other side.
"Where's the scroll?" Morro shouted.
"You'll never find it!" Ronin shouted and pushed Morro back onto the vase.

Ironically, Morro did find it. There was the scroll. Right on the ground.
"The scroll!" Everyone shouted.
"So, who's getting it first?" Morro started to get up.
"Me!" Ronin shouted, then whistled a tune. The building started to shake and a red airship bursted through the floor. Ronin grabbed the scroll and jumped on it.
"Ha! I told you his ship wasn't far!" Jay shouted.
"Sorry to leave you hanging. But since this scroll's so important, I can't just give it away!" Ronin exclaimed. Morro blasted wind so that Ronin fell out of his airship. He fell to the ground and tried to call his ship back, but he had to flee as two ghosts were in pursuit.
There were still a few ghosts in the shop, but they had a limited moving space. Cole threw his blade at one across the room and got ring of one, but it headed right towards Neran after.
"Neran!" Morro shouted, throwing his pocket staff. Neran caught it and extended it, hitting away the Aeroblade, then kicking low at Cole. Cole fell down and the blade got stuck in the wall just above his head. Neran jumped across to Morro and pulled him.
"Come on! Let's get that scroll!" Neran pulled Morro to the door as he gave back the staff. Morro started to run and as he did, Neran's hand slipped through his own, and Neran disappeared. Kai caught the full image. It looked like Morro ran though Neran. Strange.
"Did Neran just... Walk into Morro?" Kai asked.
"Questions later, Kai! We need to get that scroll!" Jay shouted. The ninja all collected their Aeroblades and ran after wherever Ronin went.
Ronin turned around to see the ninja tailing him. Ronin jumped up a building to get to the roof, fleeing the ninja.
Soul Archer drew his bow.
"Run, run, run away. My arrow will find you anyway." He fired the arrow. It curved strangely, around buildings and under posts. Ronin turned the corner and used a sign as a shield for the arrow to hit.
Ronin threw the sign away and steadily stood up.
"That was close!" Ronin exclaimed.
"So am I." Morro grabbed the scroll from Ronin's hands and started to make his way to the edge of Stiix.
"No! Morro's got the scroll!" Jay shouted from the roof.
"We can't let him get away!" Jay got up and everyone started to follow.
Morro made his way onto the roofs and the ninja seemed just behind him.
"He can't outrun the four of us!" Cole announced.
"AHHH!" The ninja paused. Jay fell.
"Scratch that!" Cole said.
"Guess it's just the three of us!"
Morro made his way to a large jump and pulled out a wire cable to swing to the other side. Two left. Kai and Cole got them, but Zane had to stay behind.
"Etanutrofnu s'taht." Zane sighed.
"Looks like it's just the two of us, now." Cole told Kai.
Morro flipped up a level, the scroll still tight in his hand. A sudden jump came up, but Morro didn't have time to process it. He just jumped and almost tripped, landing on the other roof. Kai and Cole were hit with the sudden surprise too. Kai just made it, but Cole wasn't too lucky.
"Go, Kai!" Cole shouted as he fell down on some boxes.
Two ninja left and Morro made it too the edge of the city. He jumped on the posts of an unfinished dock and went on. Kai hesitantly followed, because he nedded to get that scroll.
"Great. More water." Kai sighed.
One last post was far out of reacj for a normal jump, but Morro used his wind to get a boost and get there. Kai was kinda stranded, looking scared.
"Can you swim?" Morro asked.
"NO! I CAN'T! Thanks for asking." Kai shouted.
"Okay, well good luck." Morro opened the scroll and started to learn the forms. Kai's foot slipped, and he just grabbed onto the post. Strangle weed, a menace of a plant inhabited in Sriix started to creep it's way up to Kai. Morro was a fast learner and it showed. He closed the scroll, did the forms and threw his arm beside himself. A sage green bubble formed around him and airjutzu was now obtainable.
Now in the air, Morro summoned his dragon and started to fly.
"Go get Soul Archer." Neran said in Morro's head.
"..." Morro sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Morroooo...." Neran said.
Morro turned around and headed to the Stiix. He lowered down to Soul Archer to grab on and the ghost mounted the dragon. Morro then took the allied armor from Soul Archer's hands and put it back into his sling bag.
"Looks like you could use a lift." Ronin flew up in his airship, Rex. A ladder dropped down. Kai reached for it but the leader retreated.
"Nothing in life is free." Ronin said.
"You slimy, money-grubbing thief!" Kai shouted as strangle weed started to wrap around him.
"I don't have any money! I don't even have pockets!" Kai shouted.
"Everyone's got something. 'Cause of you, my shop's destroyed." Ronin said.
"We didn't destroy it. You did!" Kai shouted.
"Okay, your loss." Ronin flew off. Kai was fully wrapped in strangle weed.
"Wait!" Kai cried.
"There is something."
Ronin backed up.
"Ha. Like I said. Everyone's got something." He let the ladder down.
. . .
Jay, Zane and Cole all gathered at a table in Stiix.
"So after all this, Morro got airjitzu and we got left with zip?" Jay said.
"I hate being leader, but I hate losing even more." Jay sighed.
"Hey, look at it this way. Kai said he saw Neran kinda run into Morro. That could be a clue to what's going on." Cole said.
"Eerga I." Zane said.
Kai flew down from Ronin's airship.
"And Kai's okay. Tomorrow, I'll take command and we'll figure another thing out." Cole said.
"Thanks for the pick-me-up." Kai said.
"Remember what I said about second chances, and I'm gonna hold you that deal." Ronin said.
"So long. And I hope your friends wake up." He flew off.
"Second chances, what find he mean by that?" Cole asked.
"We may have lost out on the scroll, but he thinks there may be another way to learn airjitzu." Kai said.
"We're still gonna fly?!" Cole exclaimed.
"Really? Another way!" Jay shouted.
"Swen taerg si siht." Zane said.
"Woah, woah, woah, wait a sec." Cole waved his hands.
"Ronin only makes deals in his favor, and you are a terrible negotiator."
"Kai, what did you give him?" Jay asked. Kai turned away.
"I sort if gave him... My shares at the tea farm.... Alongwithallofyours." Kai spat out.
"WHAT?!" The others shouted.
"I did what I had to, and for our team, I'd do it again." Kai said.
"You're right. But I have to ask, if Morro has the only scroll, and he's gonna keep it, for a fact, we can't wait for him to give it to us. How are we gonna learn airjitzu?" Cole asked.
"Let's just say, it's not gonna be easy." Kai said.
"We have a ghost of a chance."

"Uhh... You good?"
I fell. Thankfuly, he caught me before I hit the ground.
"Woah! What's going on with you?!" He exclaimed as he sat me down.
"I shouldn't be here." I said.
"You've snuck away before, what makes it so wrong now?" He asked.
"No, I mean in Ninjago. I shouldn't be here. I don't deserve to be." I reply. He sat across from me with a confused face.
"You're making no sense."
"I should've stayed in that cave. But, by some coincidence, I was saved." I stared down.
"I don't want to be here. I said.
"I don't deserve to."
He sighed.
"You can only save those who want to be saved." He said.
"What?"
"Uh, what I mean is... You wanted, deep down, to be saved. So you were calling his name and he came to save you." He said. I looked up at him.
"You're not making any sense." I said.
"Does it have to?" He asked.
"You're still here, you called for help."

"Ngh..." Lloyd shifted in his bed.
"Lloyd?" Misako asked as she sat beside him. What Misako noticed was strange. Lloyd was crying. Misako grabbed a handkerchief and wiped the tears away from Lloyd's face.
"What are you thinking of, son?" Misako asked. Nya walked in the room.
"Is he okay?" Nya asked.
"If he's wake up." Misako said. Nya looked closer.
"Is he crying?" Nya inquired. She shook Lloyd a bit. No response.
"I wonder, whoever he's connected to..." Nya started.
Morro opened his eyes. His vision was blurry. Morro used his hand to wipe his face. Tears. He was crying. Was he sad?
"Ah! Are you okay? What's wrong?" Neran reapeared and sat infront of Morro.
"Talk to me." Neran sat cross-legged.
Morro looked at the tears that he wipe from his face.
"I... I don't know." Morro said.
"I'm not sad, and I don't think... Me, myself was sad. Not at this moment..." Morro said.
Neran flinched. He reached his hand but pulled back.
"Uh- I, uh-- I'm just gonna dissapear for a while." Neran said. Morro nodded.
"I'm sorry." Neran said.
"For what?" Morro asked.
Neran was gone.

Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
