《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》3 - Existential crisis

The next morning, Sebastian woke up confused. His head was pounding, his mouth was dry, and he wasn't in his bed...wait...he wasn't in his bed.

Shit shit shit.

He sat up a little to quickly, making his head spin. He let out a sigh of relief to see that he was on the couch in Chris' hotel room. Chris was snoring, spread out on his bed, still in his clothes from the night before. He glanced at the time on his phone, it was 11:47. He was surprised it was already almost noon, he never slept in this late. He guessed a night like they had would do that to you.

He kicked at the foot Chris had hanging off the bed, startling him awake.

"Come on man, let's go get Mackie. Grab some breakfast...uh...lunch." Sebastian said, looking at the time again. He roamed to the bathroom to fix his hair, take a swig of mouthwash, and search for some aspirin.

Chris groaned, but sat up, putting his fingers on his temples.

Once he decided he was mentally ready to handle actually standing up he grabbed his phone to check the time. He noticed that he had four new messages from an unknown number.

Hi, this is Alexa. I was behind the bar at Ruby's last night.

You wrote your number on my receipt...

I know you guys really...enjoyed yourselves yesterday...

So if giving me your number was a mistake...just...I don't know...let me know...

Chris stared at the messages. Reading them over and over again, "Seb, do you recall an Alexa from last night?" He asked curiously, trying to remember.

"Uhh...." Sebastian finished swishing his mouthwash and spit it out, "not sure...why?" He poked his head out the bathroom door and looked at Chris seriously, "What did you do?"

"Nothing...I think. I've got some texts from someone named Alexa saying she was our bartender last night." He tossed his phone to Sebastian for him to read the messages over.

Sebastian walked back into the room focusing on the phone in his hand. "Hm. Maybe the redhead?" he said handing the phone back to Chris along with two aspirins.

"Thanks." Chris dry swallowed them and looked back at his phone. "Ugh. I feel like an ass for not remembering."

"Well....are you going to answer her?" Sebastian said as he texted Anthony about lunch.

"Fuck, I dunno man. What if it was a mistake?" Chris said, flopping back on his bed with an exasperated sigh.

"Well. Have an existential crisis later, cause I'm hungry." Sebastian stated, as he walked toward the door, already ready to leave. "I'll meet you down at Mackie's room in five," he said as he quickly left the room.

Chris sighed and made his way to the bathroom, abandoning his phone on the mattress, leaving the messages unanswered.

--------------------

Ten minutes later, Chris was knocking on Anthony's door.

"Took you long enough. Sheesh." Sebastian laughed as he opened the door for him.

"Solve your crisis yet?" Anthony asked as he finished putting on his shoes. "Sebastian gave me the rundown." He supplied quickly at Chris' confused expression.

"No. Not yet." He shrugged. He wasn't the type to just hand out his number to just anyone. He was surprised at his past self for doing so, but maybe this was worth pursuing.

"We'll figure it out, pal." Sebastian said reassuringly, clapping him on the back, "but for now? Food." He stated. "Greasiest. Fuckin. Food. In. Existence. Let's roll!"

They all piled into Sebastian's car and he finally drove them all to a McDonald's a few blocks down from the hotel. All of them ordered far too much and knew it but didn't care. They lugged it all back to Sebastian's place so they could eat without fans gawking their way and also so Sebastian could finally change his clothes.

Anthony and Chris camped at the bar in Sebastian's kitchen to eat while he ran to grab a quick shower and fresh clothes. He returned to join the group with wet hair and wearing a pair of basketball shorts, sans shirt. He rubbed his head with a towel, trying to dry it, plopping next to Anthony, who gave him a solid questioning side eye at his lack of apparel.

"Quit it. I don't like wearing a shirt when my hairs wet.. my shirt gets all wet too...it's a whole thing...and I just hate it." He complained as he took a big heaping bite of the burger he's been waiting almost an hour for.

Anthony put his hands up in defense, but still silently judged him. Sebastian dug his elbow into Anthony's side and smiled back, holding in his laughter.

"Okay so back to not-so-mysterious girl, Alexa." Anthony stated while he chewed his food. "If she was indeed a bartender that at least narrows her down to like seven different girls. And if for some reason it was a dude with the name Alexa, or an ironic typo, there were three dudes bar tending too."

Chris thunked his head onto the bar with a groan. "I feel like that doesn't narrow it down much."

"There were three blondes, a brunette, a redhead, a girl with black hair, and a girl with pink hair." Anthony listed, counting off the girls on his fingers one by one, "and if you're curious, all three guys had black hair," he tacked on for good measure.

Both Chris and Sebastian stared at Anthony in aw of his memory of the night. "Just how, man? Why do you know that?" Chris said.

Anthony responded, tapping the side of his temple, "My minds a steel trap bro."

"But you don't know any of their names?" Sebastian chuckled back.

"Nope, I sure don't." Anthony shrugged, laughing.

"Well. Here's my solution. If you're too chickenshit to text her back, we can go back to Ruby's tonight and see if someone named Alexa is working." Sebastian shrugged as he laid his idea out on the table.

"Or, hear me out," Anthony starts, " what if you do text her and we go back to Ruby's tonight? For one, I wanna try their food, we didn't really get to yesterday and it looked good. And two what's the worst that can happen?" Anthony finishes.

They all look at each other and then to Chris' phone as it dings with a message notification. Chris picks it up, reading it to himself and then aloud to the other two, continuing as more notifications ring out.

Hi...again. I'll stop after this. I promise.

I just wanted to send another message in case those other ones got lost in the drunkenness of last night.

Not that you have to respond..

I just...never mind.. I hope you're doing well...and hopefully we can talk soon.

"Dude. You've gotta answer this girl. She's dying inside right now. Save her." Anthony stated as he listened to Chris read off the messages.

Sebastian took the phone from Chris' hand and started typing. Before Chris could even process what was happening, Sebastian had already hit send.

Hi, I'm sorry for the delay in responding.

We had a great time there last night. :)

"SEB YOU ASS." Chris yelled, punching him in the arm as he got his phone back, reading what Sebastian typed.

"You're welcome," Sebastian answered, cracking his knuckles cockily.

Anthony leaned over and read what Sebastian wrote, "I mean, you could've been more creative, but you got straight to the point at least...we're still going back to Ruby's tonight though...right?"

Chris thunked his head back on the table.
