《Protected by BTS》Chapter 19: Apologies

Namjoon had his fists clenched the entire time he told his story. "That's all I remember. When I woke up, you and your father were gone. My father was dead and that woman took me. She... She..."
He couldn't bring himself to say the words. The memory of it just haunts him to this day sometimes.
"Oppa, it's alright. Take your time, you don't have to tell me." You gently rubbed his back as you can see tears start forming in his eyes.
"No, it's in the past. I was a boy but now I'm a man." He said sternly while clenching his jaw. "Misun, that woman made me bury a grave for my father. I dug a ditch and she made me throw my father in there and bury him myself."
You gasped, "I-"
"Young Jae told me, 'I'll let you live, as long as you won't repeat the mistakes your father made. You're going to bury your father and his sins.' She handed me a shovel and made me dig his grave and push him in it." Namjoon started to cry, remembering the scarring memory of what he had to go through all those years ago.
"T-that must've been so hard. You were so young, oppa. I'm sorry."
"Ever since then, I promised to avenge my father. They had told me that you and your father were gone. When I asked Young Jae, she said you guys were dead. But that doesn't seem to be the case." He smirked and took the picture from your hands.
You rubbed his back and laid down next to him. "We'll find those traitors. We'll find them together and make them pay for what they did to our fathers." You said and he rubbed your shoulder.
He smiled finally, "That we will. But for now, I'm glad you're still here with us. I know I was being overprotective about you going out but I'm just scared of what would happen if they got their hands on you. Or if one of my enemies got their hands on you. I just got you back, I thought you've been dead all this time." He cupped your face and looked at you with brotherly protection.
Namjoon saw you as his little sister; Namjoon saw you as his little dongsaeng that he must protect.
You nodded, "I know, I'm sorry. I swear it won't happen again. Not after tonight." You smiled and he smiled back.

"I'm sorry I don't remember our memories from when we were young." You said sadly and he shook his head.
"Don't be. You were very young it's not surprising you don't remember. I've read that when someone goes through something traumatic, especially when they're young, the brain suppressed the memories in order to protect themself. I'm sure that happened to you. After I was knocked unconscious, I don't know what happened to you. Maybe something else happened to make you forget. But we shouldn't concern ourselves about it now. We're together after all these years. Right?"
"Right." You nodded and chuckled.
"What have you and your dad been doing? What's your earliest memory?" He asked.
You don't really remember anything special of your childhood except moving around a lot. You were constantly moving schools and houses that you didn't know what place to really cal home. It wasn't until you were 12 that you permanently settled in Yeosu. It was the longest place you guys had stayed.
You guys continued your conversation on growing up. It was like you guys were best friends all over again like when you were young. You spent hours in his room, both of you talking about what you've been doing for the past 12 years.
Namjoon had also shared his memories. After his parents died, he relied on old alliances of his father's to get him by. It was tough on him, growing up with no real guardian. Eventually, he learned the ropes, inherited MIK Enterprises, and started Bangtan. It wasn't an easy journey but he got there eventually with his intelligence.
After talking for hours, you had started to grow tired. Your eyelids dropped with every passing second. You were both tired after such a stressful day. Eventually, you fell asleep before he did, and once he noticed, he yawned. He tucked you under his blankets and fell asleep next to you.
***
It's been a little while since your talk with Namjoon. After that night, you had an even bigger incentive to find out what happened that night and where your father was. Lately, you've been staying home on your laptop to find this Sam Young Jae and Won Ho Sung. You had found a lot on them, but only their past records. Their current status is unknown and you've been struggling to find any leads.
You typed away on your computer still. You hadn't moved from your spot practically all day, and Jungkook, your new accepted roommate, noticed.

He had gotten home and noticed you still in the same spot in his room. "Working again?" He asked in slight sorry for your well-being.
You nodded your head and pushed you glasses up.
"MiSun-ah, you should really get some rest or do something else than sit in this room on your laptop all day." Jungkook remarked as he himself got ready for bed. You guys had been alternated on sleeping on his couch and on his bed. His couch was remarkably comfortable and you were thankful that he was willing to share his room.
"I went to do work on the roof yesterday. I just didn't go today." You said with your eyes still glued to the screen.
He took a good look at you and noticed dark bags under your eyes. "Have you even been sleeping that well? You look exhausted."
It was true. You haven't had a good night's rest because you've been so enveloped with research. You wanted to find out more about your father, those people, and the memories you had forgotten. There was no way you were going to let sleep get in the way.
You shrugged and Jungkook rolled his eyes and walked out of his room. He went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water when he saw Namjoon and Taehyung there as well.
"Hey Jungkookie," Taehyung said as he sat on the counter opening a can of soda.
"Is MiSun still doing work? I haven't seen her all day." Namjoon asked with slight worry as well.
Jungkook sighed, "She's locked herself in the room all day on her laptop as usual. She won't stop looking for her dad and for those people. I really don't think it's healthy."
Namjoon sighed, "Neither do I. I'm a little worried but we just kind of have to leave her be. We can't stop her from wanting to try to find her father. Who wouldn't want to? It's just that we've been coming up with dead ends. And I've had other things to deal with for Bangtan."
Taehyung stopped him from complaining even more, "Hey, you're our leader. You have other duties so it's natural for you to have a heavy load on your shoulders. It's all going to work out in the end. Just let MiSun work it out herself. She's really good at technology anyways, she'll crack through something."
Then speak of the devil, you came out of the room and into the kitchen. The boys greeted you and you only waved. "Where do you guys keep your medicine? I need some acetaminophen." You ran a hand through your hair and pushed your glasses up your face.
They all looked at you as if you were crazy.
"Wait what do you want?" Taehyung asked like a little kid and the other two were trying to figure out what you said.
You chuckled slightly, "Tylenol or any off brand, over the counter drug. I have a killer headache." You said and rubbed your temples.
Jungkook went over to one of the cabinets to look for some medicine for you. Namjoon shook his head, "Maybe you're overworking yourself."
You shrugged at Namjoon's response and he retorted, "I'm serious. You shouldn't be doing this to yourself. We both want to find them but don't sacrifice your health over this. You look tired and Seokjin hyung said you hadn't been eating much recently. We haven't really gotten anywhere with leads so you need to take a break okay?"
"I'm too deep into it oppa. I found a lot about Young Jae and Ho Sung. I found out a lot about their past and if I just keep digging, maybe we'll find a clue." You plead.
Jungkook and Taehyung could only watch.
Namjoon sighed, "No. You need a break. Tomorrow, you're coming to work with us. I don't care what you do, but you need to get out of the house. You were so ecstatic on leaving before, so be happy about it now." He ordered.
You only rolled your eyes and walked away in annoyance. Namjoon became frustrated that you hadn't even responded to his order. "Am I clear? That was an order MiSun." He said.
You took the pills from Jungkook' hand and swallowed them using Taehyung soda. "Yeah, okay. Goodnight." You said in a monotone voice and went back to the room which made Namjoon sigh, "Damn teenager." He rubbed a hand over his face.

Same Crap, Different World
A young man from early 21st century wakes up in a different world. This world is like a typical setting of an fantasy isekai novel. But it is also not. There is magic, alchemy, magical creatures, different non-human races, peasants and nobles, demons and dragons. But there is also politics, persecution, supremacism of every kind, entitlement, slavery and other unpleasant human tendencies. In short, this new world does not differ much from his old one. However, besides him, there may be others who have made such a strange trip, and awakened into this new world. There certainly have been others, in the past. But more than people and other living things, there have been items. All sorts of items, which are regarded as otherworldly artifacts with unknown danger and power. And he himself is an artifact as well, albeit a living one. Therefore he has use for the powers that be. He is also given a role and expectations to fulfill, to hide his real value. And in all that he still has to make sense of what has happened, what is happening, and find a way back, if possible. Author's note: I write this project mostly in (except chapter 1) in 60-100 page (40,000-70,000 word) chapters, edit them as such and later cut them down for publishing into 7-11 page segments (depending on natural breaks in the flow). Therefore, each chapter may be divided into 10-15 subchapters.
