《Distractions (Scrutinized Tanner x reader Fanfiction)》Epilogue

It was late October of the next year. The air was crisp and new, and Tanner was walking into his Grandmother's house with a small bundle in his arm. A scarf that came from his grandmother was around his neck. Y/N was close behind him, smiling and holding his only open hand.
Y/N had just given birth to her and Tanner's daughter, C/N, two months ago, and though Tanner won't admit it -- he was beyond emotional. Y/N teased him about it all the time; for one thing, he cried for 20 minutes, even while holding her. Then, when they were driving home, he downright refused to go fast because he feared he'd hurt her. But it was all in the past now and yet he still always wanted to hold her all the time.
Tanner walked into his grandmother's house and looked around, wondering where the sweet old lady had gone. "Grandma?" he called out while Y/N slipped in and closed the door behind her.
No response
Tanner began walking around, setting little C/N down on the couch. It took him 12 minutes before he found her, she was sitting in her rocking chair, quietly rocking back and forth and humming to herself. "Grandma! there you are," he said smiling and putting his hand on her shoulder. His grandmother looked up at him, "Tanner! dear! I missed you! You didn't tell me you were coming to visit."
"Well, I wanted it to be a surprise!"
"hm? why's that, dear?"
"do you wanna see her?"
"See who?"
"your great-granddaughter!"
Suddenly, his grandmother's eyes lit up and she looked at her grandson, a smile appeared on her face.
"you... you got me a great-granddaughter?"
"mhm!~ c'mon, come see her!"
Tanner's grandmother reached for her cane and slowly rise up from her spot in the chair. With a quick grab of Tanner's arm, she slowly walked into the living room and looked down at small C/N on the couch. She then looked at Y/N then back at the baby, then at Tanner, another warm smile appeared on her face.

"You really did choose right, dear... they both are perfect for you," she said softly, going into the kitchen and opening her cabinets. She took and set a bunch of baking ingredients on the counter
"Grandma? what are you doing?"
"Making some cookies, Tanner, why?"
"Gram... there's no need to do that."
"of course there is! It's just tradition! you come by and I always make your cookies!"
"But Grandma-"
"No buts! You're going to get the cookies and like them!"
Tanner just sighed, that was his grandmother for you; very sure of everything she did and VERY stubborn. He walked out of the room, turning to look at Y/N who was cradling C/N with a smile on her face.
"Hey, honey," he said sitting down next to her
"hi sweetie..." she purred, snuggling up under his arm, C/N squirmed a bit from the movement.
Tanner just blushed and wrapped his arm around her, his hand shielding little C/N from the cold air that threatened to chill her. Meanwhile, Y/N slowly began to fall asleep under her husband -- her body becoming heavy and her eyelids shutting.
"the cookies are nearly done." his grandmother called
"Alright grandma!" he called back, looking down at his two girls. A smile came across his face as he looked at the sleeping pair under him.
After 10 more minutes, his grandmother came into the living room holding a small tray, she set it down and looked over at the three of them. "I see the other two girls of the house have chosen to sleep under your arm," she said quietly, trying not to wake the two.
"Yeah... I still feel pretty awkward though."
"why's that, dear?"
"because... well... I don't know if I'm even able to provide for them let alone protect them."

his grandmother frowned, her mind went into thought about what she could tell her grandson. Just then, she thought of something and gave him a reassuring smile. Tanner tilted his head curiously.
"Dear, do you seriously think that... or are you just worried you might hurt the baby still?"
"I-I guess a bit of both..."
"Well, it's normal to think that way."
"what do you mean?"
"your grandpa was the same way with your mother... and your father was the same way with you. The thing is, when men are given a small and fragile little one to take care of, they fear they might hurt it."
"But... why?"
"that's just how you all are, you're so used to not needing to protect something so fragile that when you're given it -- you were just a little unprepared is all."
Tanner awkwardly fumbled with his fingers before reaching for one of the cookies on the try and silently eating it. It tasted just as good as he remembered.
"But-"
"But what, dear? you have a stable job, don't you?"
"yeah... I recently got a job as a chemist."
"mhm, and her right there and the little one are still there with you, correct?"
"yeah..."
"Then why are you so afraid? you have everything you need to support them. All you need to do is be there for those two and you'll be ok. Besides, you're doing so great already."
Tanner opened his mouth to speak, ready to protest -- but then he thought about it. She was right, he had been there the best he could be ever since C/N was born. He applied and got the job as a chemist just for her and Y/N to have the best life they could.
and he was happy with all those things...
he loved his job, he loved Y/N, and he loved C/N but most of all he had everything he could ask for. Suddenly, all that worry began to melt away and he could feel himself relaxing and slowly beginning to fall asleep with his head on Y/N's.
"oh my... it seems my baby has finally relaxed.." his grandmother said, wrapping a blanket around the three as they all fell asleep. she giggled as she said back down.
"I guess the cookies can wait for when you get home!"

Murphy's Law
****Story has been dropped for being too dark**** "Anything that can go wrong, will." But what if you know what goes wrong in advance? On Earth, monsters come in human form. Some are ostracized or locked up, but others walk amongst us. They’re more common than one would think and they grow in number the higher in the hierarchy you go. With 1 in 100 people preying on the other 99, eventually, a world trying to summon a hero might end up with a monster that doesn't feel like playing along. _____________________________ The story is my take on some of my favorite genre's and tropes, some of which I have no I idea if they'll work well together. English is not my main language so if you notice any typos or grammar mistakes please tell me so I can correct them. Criticism and critique are more than welcome:) A chapter every Tuesday.*I do not own the cover image, it's taken from google.

But they have to find the answers fast because people soon start to die. *** This is not intended to be a typical litRPG series, although it uses a lot of its elements to help create the whole setting. Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter. This story isn't a full length novel--its a novella length work (25K words), and is part of my Yancy Lazarus series. Its already free on Amazon, so I thought I'd post chapters here for the good folks of Royal Road. If you don't want to wait for updates or would prefer to read it on Kindle, you can pick it up for free here: https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B01066TLC0
