《HABLAS ESPAÑOL? (Do you speak Spanish?)》Imperfect Tense

As I said before, there are two different forms to use when talking about something in the past. I already made a chapter that explains about the present tense, so now I am going to talk about the imperfect tense!

Here are the conjugations for imperfect tense:

-ar -er/-ir (all accent)

yo: aba yo: ía

tú: abas tú: ías

él, ella, usted: aba él, ella, usted: ía

nosotors/as: íbamos nosotros/as: íamos

vosotors/as: ibais vosotros/as: ías

ellos, ellas, ustedes: iban ellos, ellas, ustedes: ían

e.g. Los niños jugaban al baloncesto. The children used to play basketball.

jugaban: jugar -> use -ar conjugation

Here are the conjugations for imperfect tense:

yo: iba

tú: ibas

él, ella, usted: iba

nosotors/as: íbamos

vosotors/as: ibais

ellos, ellas, ustedes: iban

yo: era

tú: eras

él, ella, usted: era

nosotors/as: éramos

vosotors/as: erais

ellos, ellas, ustedes: eran

yo: veía

tú: veías

él, ella, usted: veía

nosotors/as: veíamos

vosotors/as: veíais

ellos, ellas, ustedes: veían

1. habitual/repeated actions ("used to")

2. events/actions that were in progress ("was/were")

3. physical characteristics

4. mental/emotional states (e.g. era hambre)

5. telling time (ser).

6. age (tener)

7. simultaneous activities ("while")
