《SINNER - Klaus Mikaelson》THIRTEEN

Adeline woke up in her bed—sleeping soundly without assistance from any kind of medication for the first time in a long time. She felt at peace with most of the things that had happened to her— of course she would have preferred not to lose her father but everything happens for a reason she thought. Otherwise, how could she explain her and Klaus? There had to be some sort of reason written in the stars that made the two of them drawn together.

They didn't take it any further then a kiss under the moon last night. She wasn't ready for anything else, she didn't even want to talk about it with him afterwards. A part of her felt guilty, for kissing him and for how she felt about the hybrid. He had caused so much pain, but like he mother use to tell her— 'there are something that are just fate, things you can't change.'

She believed that was true for her and Klaus, she couldn't change the way she felt, it was fate. It had to be.

Klaus drove Adeline home after the kiss, walked her to the door and left her with a kiss on the cheek. He wanted to be sure she got home safely— without any further disturbance from the Salvatore or anyone else for that matter. Adeline knew there would be a lot of explaining to do after the scene that unfolded last night.

Her doorbell rang and she quickly headed downstairs, still with messy bed head and a oversized T-shirt and shorts on.

"Morning." Stefan half heartedly smile at his friend, Elena and Damon were standing beside him. "We come baring gifts." He gestured to the coffee in his hands. She smiled and swung the door wide open, inviting them in.

"Elena—" Adeline pulled at her friends arm, wanting to get her alone for a moment. "The kiss with Stefan, I don't know what that was about and I didn't want you to think—"

"I know." Elena cut her off with a smile. "It's okay."

Adeline sighed with relief she didn't want her friend to think anything about it— after all Stefan wasn't the one she had feelings for. As crazy as it sounded having feelings for Stefan probably would be easier then have to tell her the truth about Klaus. But she would worry about that another day.

"So Stefan here wanted to apologize for mouth raping you last night." Damon smirked.

"Nice Damon. Very charming." Stefan scoffed.

Adeline and Elena both laughed at the boys. Damon always just cut to the point— never worrying about if it would be the situation uncomfortable or not.

"I am sorry about that though— I don't know why I did it... I just—" he started .

"Stefan, let's just not mention it, okay?" Adeline smiled. She just wanted to move on from the subject.

"Okay." Stefan nodded, smiling back at his friend.

"So— what happened after Klaus ran after you last night?" Elena asked. Adeline took a large sip of her coffee and almost choked. She didn't know what to say to her friends, things were a little tense between them after last night and the truth would probably make things worse.

"Nothing, he just talked— apologized." She didn't lie technically, just left out some details.

"Did he say anything else?" Elena pressed on.

"No— not really." Adeline shrugged. The room felt like it was getting tense again, something was wrong. Addy thought maybe it was just because they were talking about Klaus.

"Nothing about his mom— nothing like that?" Damon asked.

"What's there to say about his mom? Was he supposed to say something?" Adeline questioned in returned. They were a little to curious about Klaus.

"Oh no— nothing. We just thought it was such big news... mommy dearest rising from the dead and all." Damon shrugged it off.

"Yeah— I guess so." Adeline replied, looking at everyone's faces trying to read the room. She felt like everyone knew something she didn't.

Adeline took another sip of her coffee and stared out the window. They tried to make small talk, but everything felt forced. This was how they normally hung out, usually everything was effortless and fun.

"Well would you look at the time?" Damon announced. "We need to get going."

"Oh okay..." Adeline forced a smile. As much as she wanted to know what was going on, she didn't want to deal with the awkward encounter any longer.

Damon and Elena walked out the front door, giving Adeline a small smile before heading to the car. Adeline reached out and grabbed Stefan before he has a chance to get away.

"Stefan, what's going on?" She asked, hoping to get an honest answer.

"I don't know what you're talking about— nothing is going on." He smiled.

"You would tell me, wouldn't you?" She questioned.

"Yeah—" he paused. "Yeah Addy of course." But he didn't look her in the eye when he answered.

"Okay, well see you later then?"

"Yeah later." He smiled.

Adeline walked to the mystic grill, she wanted to get some lunch and see Matt. She knew he was working today and it had been along time since she really talked to her friend. She was curious about how he ended up going to the ball at the Mikaelsons with Rebekah of all people.

She walked inside and headed straight for the bar, Matt was behind the counter cleaning out cups. He was the bar back— since he wasn't old enough to be the actual bartender.

"Adeline, hey!" Matt smiled, he looked genuinely happy to see his friend. At least she now knew, whatever was going on with Elena, Stefan and Damon— Matt had no part in it.

"Matty!" She smiled. "How've you been?"

"I've been good— what about you?" Matt asked. "I mean, since your dad."

"I'm hanging in there. The house is lonely now though." She admitted. Her friend gave her a sympathetic look and placed his hand on hers, stroking it gently.

"I'm sorry Addy." He shook his head.

"I know— I'll be okay." She sighed. "So, what's it going to take for you to serve me something a little stronger then soda?"

"Nice try." He smiled. "I need the job."

"Okay fine— how about a coke then?" She laughed.

"Coming right up!" he smiled and headed for the glasses.

Adeline leaned up against the bar, waiting for Matt to come back with her drink.

"Hello love." Klaus smirked, walking up beside the blonde.

"I didn't know you were here." She smiled, looking over at him.

"Just walked in— perfect timing I supposed." He flirted.

"I guess so."

The pair stared at each other, and Klaus placed his hand on top of Addy's hand, that she was resting on the bar counter.

"I had a nice time last night." He admitted.

"Before or after your attempted murder of my friend?" She teased.

"After." He said and meant it.

"Well— look who it is." Kol smirked, joining Klaus and Adeline.

Klaus kept his hand connected with Adelines, which Kol noticed. When she saw his eyes staring at there hands, she moved hers away. She wasn't ready to answer questions to anyone about the two of them yet, not even Klaus's brother who probably already knew to much.

"Hi Kol." She smiled.

"Niklaus and I were just about to play some pool— care for a game?" He questioned.

Before Adeline could answered, she saw Stefan and Elena walk behind the mystic grill. It looked like they were arguing and she wanted to know what was going on.

"Yeah— I would love to but can you give me a minute?" She asked. "I just have something to do really fast."

"Sure." Kol smiled. Klaus stared her down with curious eyes. He wanted to know what was going on, but she didn't want to answer. She leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking away, hoping that would keep him calm.

Adeline walked out the back door of the grill and saw Stefan and Elena arguing in the ally. She walked towards them and Stefans face went hard when he saw her approaching.

"Guys— what's going on?" She questioned.

"Nothing Addy." Stefan stammered. "Elena and I are just trying to work some things out."

"You're lying." She pointed out. She wanted to know what was going on, so she was going to be blunt about it.

"No, I'm not." Stefan tried to stick to his story.

"Yes you are Stefan, I can tell." She huffed.

"Oh god— I am not going to listen to this." Elena spat. "Yeah sweetie, were lying to you."

Elena would never talk to Adeline that way, not unless she was compelled and she knew that wasn't the case because she was on vervain.

"Katherine." Adeline snarled.

"In the flesh." She smirked.

All Adeline saw was her dads lifeless body, she saw his body on her clothes, she saw the light removed from his eyes. The rage was taking her over, she knew she was no match for a vampire but she wanted to hurt her, she had to hurt her. Adeline lunged forward and back hand slapped Katherine across the face. The doppelgänger got mad and shoved Addy against the brick wall, cracking her head open.

"Katherine!" Stefan yelled and leaned down to console his injured friend. Adelines head was bleeding— she put her hand on the back to try and stop it but it just kept coming.

"Here." Stefan said, biting into his wrist and gesturing for Adeline to drink his blood. "You need to heal."

Adeline leaned down and sucked the blood from his wrist.

"Thank you." she breathed, wiping the crimson color off her lips. "Stefan tell me what is going on— why are you with Katherine?"

"Adeline—" he started.

"He can't tell you. You are one of them now." Katherine scoffed.

"What? One of who?" Adeline questioned.

"Thanks to Klaus's little obsession with you— you can't be trusted." She smirked.

"Oh and you can?" Adeline scoffed. "Stefan, tell me, right now."

Stefan stared at his friend with guilt behind his eyes. He helped her back up to her feet and let out a deep breath.

"I think you should come with me— we need to tell you together." He admitted.

Adeline nodded and followed him to his car. She knew Klaus might be suspicious when she didn't come back inside but she had to know what was going on.

Stefan drove them to the Salvatore house and when she walked inside Damon and Elena were already waiting for them.

"Okay start talking." She ordered.

"Esther is going to kill her children— all of them." Elena blurted.

"Wait— what?" Adeline gasped.

"She wants them dead, as in gone as in bye bye forever." Damon blurted.

"Why didn't you guys tell me?" Adeline questioned. Her stomach was tying itself into knots— she didn't want Klaus to die, that is why they didn't tell her. She knew the answer, she just wanted them to say it.

"We knew things were— complicated between Klaus and you." Elena muttered. "We didn't know you would react."

"You involved Katherine though? The girl who killed my father?" Adeline scoffed.

"Yeah... sorry about that." Katherine shrugged. Adeline felt like she was going to come unglued. She felt betrayed.

She looked over at Stefan and he could barely meet her eyes. She could tell he felt bad but thats didn't make her feel any better.

"Oh my God." Adeline shook her head. "That's why you came to my house this morning, isn't it? That's why you were asking about Klaus you wanted to see if he knew!"

"Adeline, let me explain." Elena started.

"Oh yes, please do explain." Klaus snarled, walking in from the front door. "What is it you didn't want me to know?"

The room fell silent. No one wanted to answer the hybrid and he was growing impatient. He knew something was up when Adeline didn't return inside and he saw her leaving with the Salvatore.

"Answer me!" He yelled, the veins were protruding from his neck.

"It's your mom." Adeline admitted.

"What about Esther?" He questioned.

"She linked you and your siblings. She's going to do a ritual tonight— to kill all of you." Stefan admitted. He didn't want to make Adeline have to be the one to tell him and he knew someone was going to have to or heads would begin to roll.

"Did you know?" Klaus turned to Adeline with a betrayed look in his eyes.

"What? Klaus no. They just told me!" She answered.

"I can't believe this." He shook his head and took off in a blur. We knew he was headed to try and stop her and Adeline hoped he would make it.

Silence fell around the group, Adeline was staring at the floor, she didn't want to make eye contact with any of her friends right now.

Jeremy and Bonnie burst into the house, panting and looking like they were scared beyond belief.

"We can't let Esther finish the ritual." Bonnie panted. "If they die— you all die too."

"Wait what?" Damon questioned, dropping his bourbon on the floor.

"It's true." Jeremy replied. "If the vampire who's line you are descended from dies, you die."

"Why is it that every time we have a plan to kill those psychos something like this happens?" Damon scoffs. "Come on— let's go try and stop this before we all wind up dead."

They all left the house headed towards the ritual sight where they knew they could find Esther. Adelines heart was pounding in her chest, not only did she not want her friends to die— she didn't want Klaus to die either.
