《A Second Chance At Romance》Prologue

Six Months Ago
After the horrible day I had at work I was ready to finally get home and relax. I just had to be quiet because I'm sure Lexi and Mason were in the bed. My shift was supposed to end at one but luckily I was able to get out at eleven hence why I was on my way home.
The hospital was only ten minutes from my house so the drive wasn't that bad. Pulling into the driveway I noticed a car parked by the curb outside my house that I had never seen before.
Although I was confused about why it was in front of my house I figured it was just the neighbors because their guests often parked in front of ours with our permission of course. I'm sure they asked Mason and he said it was fine.
Putting my car in park and heading inside I quietly made my way up to the bedroom but not before checking on Lexi. Opening her door she was sound asleep so I closed the door back and then headed down the hall to my room.
Before I got a chance to even place my hand on the doorknob I heard Mason and a voice of a girl that had a familiar voice but I couldn't think of it. What I was more concerned about was what the hell she was doing in my room and why the hell Mason was cheating on me.
It's probably bad of me to assume but I know it's exactly what he's doing. I just want to know why. I know we've been having problems but he promised me that we would at least work it out not just for Lexi but for us also. I love him and I know he loves me so why was this an option?

As I placed my hand on the doorknob I heard the person who I thought loved me say something that made me feel completely heartbroken.
"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on. My wife doesn't even compare to you."
Are you kidding me that's the most heartfelt thing ever? I know I wasn't meant to hear it but since I did I was completely astounded.
He is such a jerk!
"Those are the nicest words someone's ever said to me, Mason." I heard the girl say.
At that point I couldn't stand to listen to any more of the crap he was saying so without any hesitation I busted open the door startling the both of them. Mason jumped up off the bed looking completely horrified as the girl grabbed onto the cover and wrapped it around herself getting up as well to distance herself from him.
I wasn't just going to blame him I was going to blame her as well. Surely she knew that he was married before coming I mean c'mon he still had his wedding ring on his finger.
How stupid could she be?
Glancing over at the girl I noticed who it was and I was stunned.
Standing there with a scared look on her face I noticed that it was my ex-best friend Carmen Johnson from high school!
"Savannah!" Mason said surprised that I was here in our bedroom, "It's not what it looks like!"
Why do guys always say that line?
"Of course, it's what it looks like! How stupid do you think I am?"
By now I had tears streaming down my face. I tried to stay strong but I just couldn't.
He tried to come near me but I backed away not wanting him to come to me or even touch me for that matter.

Carmen on the other hand didn't try to say a word or even try to defend the actions she just watched everything unfold.
What a bitch!
I had to get out of here now and with my daughter! There's no way I'm leaving her here with him.
Without another word I walked out and slammed the door hurrying down to Lexi's room where she was sound asleep looking completely innocent.
Walking towards her I bent down beside the bed and placed my hand on her back, "Sweetheart?"
Lexi woke up rubbing her eyes before sitting up in the bed saying, "Mama?"
"Yes, baby. I need you to help mama with something, okay?"
"Okay!" She said happily wanting to do whatever I needed.
"Get teddy and some clothes we're going to grandma's house for a sleepover tonight."
Getting off her bed and grabbing her Elsa backpack she began to put some clothes in it as I helped her. Just as I thought we would be able to leave in peace Mason barged into the room with wide eyes.
"What are you doing?" He asked looking hurt and confused.
"Packing! We're going to grandma's." Lexi said as she finished up what she was doing walking over to Mason with her teddy bear in hand.
I took her backpack and zipped it up ready to get out of this house and away from him.
"Are you now?" He looked over at me and I looked to the ground immediately avoiding eye contact.
"Yeah."
That was all I said as I scooped Lexi into my arms and started towards the door. I knew Mason was following us because I heard footsteps behind us. He should just go back to Carmen and be with her he wants her and not me anyways.
"Are you coming too daddy?" She asked looking back at him.
I turned around and faced him giving him a warning glare and he took that as a hint on what to tell her.
"Not this time peanut. You and mom have fun okay, and I'll see you later."
"We will!"
"I love you!" He said as she smiled widely and I couldn't tell who he was talking to just because he glanced and me and then Lexi.
"I love you too daddy!"
That was the last thing she said to him as we left him standing there.
I had to figure out what to tell her when her dad wasn't around as much but it was for the best. I didn't want to be with a cheater and it hurt that it had to happen to us.
He was my first love and I don't think I'd ever find another person I could ever love.
