"Hey- Hey~ Wake up!"
A voice.
What? What the hell?
"Oh god don't be dead— plEASE DONT BE DEAD"
That's when you jolt up.
It's dark. You're on a park bench. You frantically look around. What the hell happened.
Oh yea.
You left Nagito.
Lying little cunt found his soulmate.
Then you ended up here...
So... that whole thing, meeting your new soulmate...
... a dream?
You rub your eyes, not looking at the person who woke you up.
"What time is it?" You mumble out.
"Oh thank god you're not dead."
Why does the voice have a familiar ring to it? It's not Nagito... god he's the last person who would wake you up from sleeping on a park bench.
You sigh, for a multitude of reasons, a main one being Nagito.
"What time is it?" You again, ask the stranger.
"It's around 5 am. 4:49 to be exact." He answers.
You look over at the stranger, finally, then you cover your mouth.
Nu-uh.
No.
Fucking.
Way.
It's that fucking guy from your dream.
"Oh my fucking god." You breath.
The boy, turns his head to the side, clearly confused.
"What is it? Are you alright!?" The boy asks.
You whip your whole body around, and grab the poor boys shoulders. You stare directly into his olive green eyes. You are mere inches from his face. The boy looks terrified.
"Uh- should- I-? I- Is- is this a bad time?"
His eyes are shifting, left and right. You shake him.

"Do you have a soulmate!?" You frantically ask.
The boy nods. He lifts up his arm, the best he can, to show you his finger.
"It's what brought me here, after all."

Hajime, as you learned his name actually was, brought you to his house, which was very nice. You two were sitting on his plushy tan couch, a little awkwardly.
"So- where should we start?" Hajime awkwardly asks.
"Uh...- hm- I dunno." You huff out.
Silence.
Painful. Awkward. Silence.
"I know!" You snap up.
"(Your birthday), this year! Your string! I wanna know what happen to it." You tell him.
Hajime sighs.
"Well..."
Hajime POV.
I feel the day coming. Whoever I'm meant to be with is turning 18 soon! I know it! My stupid string keeps doing weird stuff... that must mean something...
When the day finally comes, I am ecstatic. I know that sign! My sting color goes from white, to a beautiful velvety red color.
I head out of my house, and into my car, determined to find her. I drive, all night long.
She could be anywhere!! I swear I've been driving for hundreds of miles. I finally stop, near 3 am. She can wait, right?
I check myself into the worlds worst motel, and nearly pass out.
And then, I feel it.
The absolute worst , most sharp pain in my finger. It runs through my bones, I feel it in my veins, I feel it jolting down my spine. I yell out in agony. I curl my toes up, I feel it there too.
Instinctively, I look at my finger. Maybe I just pricked it on something rusty, and this is what kind of pain you get...
I wish I had pricked it on something rusty.

I see it. My string... it's fading away into... nothing.
All I can do is cry. My future- she- or he- or they- are gone!
Cut from my life- dead- who knows!
I weep. It's all I can do...
"H-Hajime I had- I had no idea." You whisper.
Hajime shrugs. You slouch a little, and you're noticeably uncomfortable. Hajime rubs your back. You can't help but smile a little bit.
"So-." You up a little, and clear your throat.
"-How did ya end up here? And how did you find me so soon?"
"Well- There was a college around here I was planning on going to, so I moved here- hmm- about May? Maybe June? Around then. I- I can't really remember." Hajime replies.
You nod. Seems reasonable. Your mind wanders, thinking about what he's majoring in.
"As for finding you so soon? I just happened to be up, really. I was just playin' some games on my laptop- and well- I felt all tingly. I checked myself out, naturally- and to my avail- A string. It took me about an hour to find you." Hajime tells you.
You're beaming at the boy.
You love him already. His enthusiasm, his quirkness, his slightly awkward demeanor. He's perfect...
...but he's just not Nagito...
"Hah..." Hajime is talking, but you're drowned in your thoughts.
But yet again... Nagito would never spend an hour searching for you... of course there was the fact that he had always been there... of course he's not here now... and he's never going to be here again...
"...-bably sound like a stalker- Hey! Hey (Y/N)!? What's wrong? Is it something I said?" Hajime asks in a panic.
Oh how cliche, you're crying over your own thoughts.
Hajime wraps you in his arms. You sniffle, and wipe some tears away.
"Gosh- no it's not you. I haven't told you about what happen on my side, huh?" You tell him, clearly sounding chocked up.
"You don't have too. We can just sleep for now." Hajime soothingly says.
You shake your head though.
"No- no. You need to know." You sigh, and start from the very beginning...
...When you met Nagito, all those years ago in Pre-k. How you two were conjoined at the hip throughout elementary school, and even middle school. And how when High School rolled around, you went different ways, but never stopped being the best of friends.
You told Hajime about how you never believed the string thing... and how Nagito always would insist it's truth.
And then you told him about your birthday. How Nagito gave you those scissors, and how you woke up, with your string now tied to his.
You told him how- for nearly 10 months, you and Nagito were so in love- or so it seemed- until he cut you off- literally.
You explained how you got to the bench, but neglected to tell about him that dream you had.
Hajime, the whole time, sat and listened. Even though the whole story was a little bit jumbled, and half the time you were holding in tears. Hajime listened.
Maybe getting untied from Nagito wasn't so bad?

When Nasilain started traveling between worlds, she hadn’t expected to get caught by a police officer. Nasilain: Traveling between worlds always filled Nasilain with dread. All those men with their friendly smiles and hundreds of questions. What was the last movie she watched? What music did she like? What country was she from? If Nasilain could use magic in this world, she would’ve blocked the flow of calcium ions in their jaw muscles just to shut them up. The scientific knowledge she could find on the internet using the free Wi-Fi in one of the local coffee shops forced her to tolerate the occasional interrogation. But even hipsters were better than Seth, the beefy police officer that caught her teleporting. Apparently, she wasn’t allowed to lie to him, which was fine as long as he didn’t ask about the clone. Seth: Seth had seen his share of bad luck. On normal days, it manifested as a shoulder injury that got him discharged from his SEAL team or wounding a civilian while on the police force. But landing in a parallel dimension with elves in neon green pants, a cute mad scientist with magical abilities, and swarms of carnivorous fairies? That was a first. At least Nasilain promised not to use her magic to split atoms. Content warning: This book DOES NOT contain zombie fairies. Everything else is fair game though.
