Finally! The time for your party is here. Your little house is decorated with (FC) and (2ndFC) balloons and streamers. You did all the decorating yourself, because your two best friends were busy.
"Okay!" You say to yourself. "People should be coming now!"
You sit on the couch, waiting.
2 minutes. Nothing.
5 minutes. Nothing.
Okay, well people are going to be a little late. Only 5 minutes, right?
7 minutes. Maybe you're being meticulous about the time.
10 minutes. Someone should be here.
As that thought crosses your mind, there's a knock at the door. You jump off the couch and bolt to the door. When you swing the door open, you see Nagito standing there.
"Sorry I'm late (Y/N)!" He chirps.
"Oh no, you're the first one here..." You sadly mumble.
"Awe don't worry, more people will come." Nagito reassures you.
You stay silent. Billions of negative thoughts are running through your head. Does no one want to be there? Did you give the invites out too late?
"Hey, (Y/N)?"
You look at Nagito. You know that he can tell you're upset. Despite that, he keeps a bright and optimistic smile on his face.
"Where should I put this?" He asks, holding up a small blue rectangular box.
"On the table I guess." You huff.
"Oh (Y/N), cheer up. You have so much despair in your bones. Be lucky that I'm here!" Nagito says as he sets down the gift.
You only sigh and lay down on your couch.
"I'm cheery, Nagi." You say monotonously.
Nagito sits next to your head. He strokes your hair and gazes down at you.
"Come on now (Y/N)! Let's have fun without everyone." He says.
"That's stupid." You grumble.
"Stop being such a downer (Y/N)! I'm simply trying to fill you with hope." Your best friend says.

You curl into a little ball. Nagito continues lightly stroking your hair. The white haired boy rambles on about how you need to be hopeful and optimistic about the situation you're in.
"Get up, (Y/N)!" Nagito yells as he tugs st your arm.
You lift your eyebrow at him. "Why?"
"We're going to have fun! That's why!"
You groan as the skinny boy hoists you off the couch. He drags your sad, doll like body to your kitchen. Nagito looks around, trying to figure out what to do.
"Let's uh-" Nagito keeps thinking. "Play hide and seek! That's fun! It'll be like when we were kids.
You snicker. "Hide and seek? Really Nagi?"
"Yes! Of course! Why would I lie, (Y/N?)" Nagito pauses. "I just... want to spend this time with you! Ya know, good childhood fun before your adulthood."
You only roll your eyes in response.
"Come on (Y/N)! I'll count first!" Nagito exclaims.
You sigh. "Fine. You make a compelling argument." You say.
Nagito smiles at you. "Thought so."
The white headed boy turns around, facing a corner. He covers his eyes and begins to count. You scurry around, trying to hunt down a good hiding space. Because of the time limit you're only able to get under your small little table.
"20! Ready or not here I come!"
You hold your breath, praying that Nagito won't look under the table.
"Found you."
Sadly it's the first place he looks.
"I bet you were looking!" You playfully shout.
"Whatever! Go count." Nagito huffs.
You nod, and go to the same counting spot Nagito was in. You slowly count to 20, and then go hunt for Nagito. He's a good hider, no surprise. When he was younger he always would hide in the smallest of places.

"Wonder where he could be." You mumble to yourself.
You throw back curtain, fling back covers, swing open doors. Alas, no Nagito. You kept searching and searching until-
"I know!" You exclaim.
You run to the sink in your kitchen, and open up the cupboard under it. There Nagito was, curled up under it. He flashes you a smile.
"Awe, you found me." He says.
You smile and help him out from under your sink. The cycle of hide and seek goes on for hours. There was a small break to open Nagitos present, which was a pair of scissors, and cupcakes you made. Soon, it's almost 12:00.
"Wanna go up to my room?" You ask Nagito.
"Sure." He replies.
You walk down the hall to your room, and then you sit on your bed. The two of you sit on your full sized bed, on your puffy (F/C) comforter.
11:55
"Are you excited to be 18, (Y/N)-kun?" Nagito asks.
You drum your fingers on your thighs.
"Not sure." You reply. "I mean... all the bills, getting a job." You mumble.
"Not much different from now." Nagito says.
You shrug. "Good point."
11:56
You sit in silence. You scratch your index finger.
"Hey Nagi?"
Nagito lightly hummed in response.
"I don't want to offend you or anything but-"
"-Then don't say it."
"No, no I wanna know."
11:57
"Okay then ask."
"Why did you get me scissors for my birthday?" You ask.
Silence.
11:58
"You'll see."
You look at the clock and notice the time.
"Hah. Less than two minutes." You say.
A pit forms in your stomach. Why are you feeling nervous? It's just a birthday after all! Your mouth feels glued together.
"Excited?" Nagito asks.
11:59
You exhale all your nervousness.
"Yeah." You breath.
"I'm really excited for you, I have to admit." Nagito says.
"Thanks."
The two of you say nothing more. Your finger still feels oddly itchy. It's about to be 12:00, you feel it. The pit in your stomach grows bigger and bigger until-
12:00.
"Happy birthday (Y/N)!" Nagito exclaims.
You smile at him. You look down at your lap. Something feels different.
"Nagito... I feel weird." You softly say.
Nagito smiles at you. He takes your left hand and puts it in front of your face.
"Could this be why?"
And there was a dark red string, leading into an abyss of nothingness.

The Saga relates the events and personal histories of the men of the 3rd Marine Space Expeditionary Force and their bitter MAXWAR (mutually assured eXtinction war) against the alien Krag Subjugation. Told from the view point of the warfighters on the front lines, the blue collar workers who build and maintain the infrastructure that supports them, and the scientists and engineers who develop the technologies that power their victories on the battlefield. This mission, The Maggot Colony, relates the first part of the adventure, where their capital ship, The Good Shepherd, is critically damaged, and a small force is sent to establish an outpost on the surface of a nearby planet to secure much needed emergency supplies and fuel. The situation is desperate, the fighting is brutal and the technical challenges both in space and on the planet surface seem insurmountable.
