"Oh."
You stare at the string around your finger.
"I wonder who's on the other side." Nagito says, too casually.
"W-wait that means-!" You sputter out.
"It means that I was right? I'm aware."
"Wait but you can't even-" You start.
"-I can see it."
Nagito lifts his finger. You can see the red string on his finger.
"Are our strings connected?" You ask.
Nagito laughs and shakes his head.
"No no, that would be all too convenient for me." He tells you.
You look at him. All too convenient? What is he talking about? Is he implying something? Billions of thoughts are flowing through your head. You don't say any of them though. All you do is stare down at your hands. The string around your finger.
How can this be real? This has to be a dream! Maybe you'll wake up soon. You go back to everything that Nagito told you. The soulmates, the string, the thing about-
"Wait! Nagi! If we're not soulmates how come you see my string? And I see yours? Didn't you say that it was complicated?"
Nagito chuckles. "The easy answer is the power of friendship. Best, Friendship."
You let out a sigh. "Good enough."
Again, silence takes over the room. You stand up.
"(Y/N)? Where are you going?" Nagito asks.
You shrug. "To find my soulmate I guess."
Nagito stares at you intensely. Then, a bright smile appears on his face. It doesn't seem real to you though.
"Oh how wonderful! May I come along?" Nagito asks.
"If you want too. I could probably use the help from my best friend." You happily tell him.
Nagito sighs. "Ah yes, best friend. Besties always help each other out."

You smile at him. "Yeah! C'mon let's go!"
You grab Nagitos hand and drag him out the door. A huge grin is plastered on to your face. All of a sudden, this soulmate thing doesn't seem so bad. Maybe it's just a new adventure.

"Nagi!" You whine.
"What, (Y/N)?"
"We've been walking for so long! Where is my soulmate?" You ask.
"First off, it's been 5 minutes. Second, make sure you're following the string." Nagito tells you.
You huff and cross your arms.
"This was a bad idea. It's late and I wanna go home."
Nagito pats you on the back. "Now there's a good idea."
"But I wanna find them!" You exclaim.
"Then find him?" Nagito weakly suggests.
Once again you clasp the boys hand in yours.
"We're gonna do this together!" You say.
Nagito laughs. A small smile appears on his face as you drag him along.
"Slow down!" He yells, still laughing a little.
You pace yourself. Soon, you're simply walking hand in hand in the dark.
"What do you want him to be like?" Your best friend asks.
You think. What is your ideal guy like? Tall, pretty, blond? No, that just sounds like some rich underclassman you know of. Not ideal. You don't want him being basic, brown hair and brown eyes.
"I don't know really." You finally reply after a few silent moments. "Nice and cute I guess. Someone who understands me."
Nagito nods. "Do you think I'm nice?"
You shrug. "When you want to be. Why ask?"
"Just curious." Nagito replies.
You continue following your string. It still seems to be leading into nothingness.
"Do you think I'm cute?" Nagito randomly asks.
You snicker. "Sure Nagi, but why are you asking? Is it because of what I said about my soulmate?" You question the boy.

Nagito laughs. "I've been caught. But don't worry, I'm only curious. It would be nice if we were compatible."
"Compatible huh? We're best friends! Of course we're compatible! Maybe if this... whole thing... oh never mind I'm being cheesy. You know what I was going to say." You say.
"Of course. Let's keep following that string of yours, okay?"
And on you go, following that string. The trek is seemingly long and useless. It's brightened up by optimistic comments from Nagito, and little jokes from you. Soon enough, you're done.
"Oh Nagi, we're far from home. Let's just turn back or call a cab." You huff.
Nagito nods in agreement. "Yeah, it's been an hour or so. It's nearly two."
You turn around and start waking.
"I'm kinda upset that we didn't even get a sign of them." You softly admit.
"I'm sorry about that (Y/N)."
You continue back home in silence. You hope that Nagito will make some odd comment about hope to (try and) cheer you up.
"I'm glad we didn't if I'm being honest." He blurts.
You look at him, shocked.
"What!" You squeak. "You're the one who's been going on about my soulmate and now you don't even want me meeting him?"
Nagito sighs. He looks down at his shoes, clearly thinking about something.
"Nagi! Explain!" You demand.
Another sigh from the white haired boy.
"Well you see... I..." Nagito takes in a deep inhale. "I can't hide it anymore! (Y/N), I like you. Like, really really really like you." Nagito says.
You stare at him in shock. Is he being serious right now?
"That's why I can see your string, because I like you. It makes no sense but... I don't know."
You scoff and shake your head. You don't believe this! He cannot like you! Not after you find out there's a soulmate for you out there!
"You're lying! Y-you have to be lying!" You exclaim.
"I'm not, (Y/N)."
"You- You... you have to be! How is this not a lie! You've been on my ass about soulmates for the last week and now all of a sudden you like me!" You scream.
"I don't like you "all of a sudden." I've liked you for almost all 18 years I've known you." Nagito calmly tells you.
"You got my SCISSORS for my birthday! That's really some true love right there huh? Yeah, loving your best friend you get her scissors." You shout with a scoff.
"Indeed. I love you so much that I got you a pair of scissors." Nagito says. His tone suddenly seems a little darker than usual.
"Nagi? Are you okay?" You ask, now feeling guilty for lashing out at him.
Nagito takes your index finger that has the string attached to it.
"I'm going to be blunt here. I'm going to cut your string."
Nagito walks his fingers along the string as if it was a tight rope. Then he mimics a cutting motion. You stare at him, both terrified and oddly intrigued.
"(Y/N)." Nagito breaths your name then takes your hand.
"I'm going to make us destined for each other."
