《Destiny That Binds Us》9 : I'm dead and I know it!

"So what? Sneak into the living hall and hide the newspaper before anyone else reads the article ?" Ankita asked the same question for the hundredth time as we were snooping down the stairs.
"Please keep your mouth shut until we grab the newspaper Anki" Aisha whisper-yelled.
Me?
I was just chilling around with a heartbeat rate of 135/minute.
Nothing serious at all.
I'm dead and I know it,
I'm dead and I know it,
I'm dead and I know it.
I was chanting continuously, reminding myself about my fated future.
"Suha, you search in the living room, we both will search in the kitchen and keep aunty distracted until then. " Their voices lowered as we were about to split off.
"Hey Suha, come on chill, we are going to find a way out of this " Aisha assured just the way villians in those movies does before pushing the protagonist into a dark, huge pit.
Come on, I know I'm dead, so why not just prepare an eulogy for me beforehand.
"Yeah, we will make sure no one reads it" Ankita sounded casually.
"Read what?" A clearly not-so-happy voice disrupted the small 'You-won't-die' session, we were sharing.
"Uhh aunty?" Ankita blinked sustainably, clearly showing away that we were upto no good.
Just my luck!
"Huhh--Hii aunty, good to see you!!" Aisha forced a smile.
"Before we read what ankita? You were saying something--" Mom shook her head clearly waiting for her to reply.
Say what?
Hey mom, did you see today's article about me getting married, without my knowledge?
Or something like this?
Hey mom, I am getting married, you had any idea? No? Even I didn't have any till yesterday.
Ugh.
"Don't read the newspaper " Ankita blurred out hastily as I hit her with my elbow.
"Huh--well, I am about to read. Why?" Mom asked, confused.
"Well, if so, then just don't read the 4th page, left column."
Okay, I am severing all my ties with her.
"Uh-what? Just to make sure that she doesn't read, that's all" Anki whispered nervously after seeing our 'Murder-her' faces.
"Ohh you mean, the news which mentions my daughters marriage? Ohh yeah, I won't read it----AGAIN" She said after a long pause and gave a smile--an Evil smile which basically means "Someone's dead".
Yeah obviously that 'Someone' is me.
"You have read it already?" Our eyes popped out, as mom was ready to collect and fry them for lunch.
"Kaashvi, get her here!" Dad yelled from the dinning.
"Yeah honey" Mom replied back with smiles all over her face.
Honey?? Something is definitely wrong! My mom calls my dad only by name--well sometimes, no respect.
Nevermind.
"Follow me" Mom turned back towards the dinning.

"Looks like your mom's happy!" Aisha replied, confused.
"I don't think so, obviously I am in trouble" I stomped on the floor.
"Suhana???" I heard three voices from the dinning, as they sounded like hungry lions waiting to pounce as soon as I enter the den.
"Come on suha, you have to go!" The friends I had called for help, were now pushing me towards the dinning.
"Here she is!!" Ankita's voice laid back as we saw everyone around a perfectly baked chocolate cake.
Wait--what?
"Come on, girls. Cut this!" Mom directed me and Megha to do the initiative.
Happy hell day to me!
After minutes, it was quite obvious who the real lion was and what it pounced on. It was me.
Well, if you are wondering, then Yes, I didn't brush my teeth. Come on, it's just a day!
It was a Chocolate cake, you want me to deny? Hell no
But neither Mom nor Dad utter or ask anything about the news, leaving me suspicious.
It was almost an hour after a completely useless trepidation, which had a completely different reaction.
Though, the decision was upto no good either way for me.
"We forgot about College, goodbye aunty" Aisha gave me an assuring nod, which basically meant 'Don't-worry-we-will-figure-this-out-in-college'
Friend code.
While Ankita sneaked close to me, "Do try to remember your kid's name, might be useful " I gritted my teeth with a smile as she winked.
Let me kill you in college, I consoled myself.
After some time, we dispersed, Megha left somewhere, probably to her office.
Lucky her!
Mom was over a call, answering and replying all the calls and texts she recieved regarding the article.
Well, forget my phone, it must be overflowing with haters and friends and everyone I ever know.
And as it was already time for college, I had to rush through my activities to get ready.
As I was about to leave, but somewhere in me, I wasn't feeling right.
"Mom? You cool?"
"Huh--Of course sweetie, I am happy for you. Trust me, this is the bestest news ever" She was obviously happy.
"But mom--I am sorry"
"Why Suha?" Dad joined us.
"Well, I should've been the one to tell you this, but knowing it from a newspaper and--"
"No no, it's completely alright. We know you wanted to tell this to be a secret" Mom smiled.
Secret? What secret?
I better tell them the truth, I can't be stuck between them.
"Well mom and dad, Actually there is something you have to know about this information on newspaper, Actually the information is not true--"
"Yeah the information part where they say you are intelligent, smart blah. Enough, there is no need to hide anymore, let's go!" Mom mocked me.

Well, nice start.
"Go where?"
"Shopping with everyone?"
"Mom--no--I have a paper presentation today, I can't--wait what do you mean by everyone?"
"Our family and Vikram's family obviously. Megha has already gone with Rohit to purchase their engagement ring, now we are leaving to get yours" She winked.
"Mom, I seriously can't, This paper presentation is really very important for me, please, I can't stop it for unnecessary things , I might even lose marks and--"
"This is not unnecessary Suha, this is important, you can submit it tomorrow right, I mean--"
"Mom please"
This is exactly why I hate marriages. They are so suppressive for a girl with dreams like me.
"Kaashvi, let her leave, we will pick her up later" Dad somehow knows how to trick mom.
Thumbs up for cool dad.
But, I will somehow trick into not joining them. Well, I have my own ways.
"Bye mom! Bye dad!" I was about to leave when I had completely forgotten about my phone.
"Dad, can you get you my phone, it's upstairs in my room!" I strolled around the porch area.
"Gotcha"
I can't go inside again.
Why?
Cause, I am lazy and I am already done wearing my slippers.
Difficult task, I know.
"Dad??"
Okay it's been just 5 minutes since he left.
"You have got a call from Mr.Narcissist sweetheart!" I heard Dad's faint voice from upstairs.
Wait--what?
No no.
I immediately threw away my slippers and bag and ran upstairs.
As I gushed inside my room, well, die, Dad had already attended his call.
"Who the hell is this?" Dad sounded terrific .
Oh God!
"What?? Ohh!! Okay Haha" The stern tone and face of his, which I have probably never ever seen before, suddenly turned into uncontrollable chuckles.
As Dad covered the phone with his hand, he whispered," You saved his number as Mr.Narcissist. That's so Cute and Romantic" He laughed out, again.
"Dad, it's neither cute nor romantic. He is an ass. You probably haven't met him" I whisper replied to him.
Well I should have also added, "He is an ass, so make sure you don't get me married to him---Please"
But I didn't.
"Of course not, I met him--yesterday. He is genuine and the perfect match for you" Dad winked.
"What?"
"Yeah, how else do you think, me and your mom know about your relationship. He was here yesterday with his family "
What the hell? That guy said he had work and came here to meet my family?
"Okay he is still on line, talk!" Dad smirked and left the room, thinking he is giving me some privacy.
"Suhana, Listen to me, we need to--" I heard his annoying voice from the other side.
But it was basically my time for revenge, so---
Good, now take that, I flipped my hair proudly and left for college.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Aisha was screaming, while digging her bag for the third time.
"Shh" I interrupted, considering there was a professor, Mrs.Ishita in class.
"Come on, it won't magically appear just because you are checking again." Ankita snickered.
"Come on yaa, I was awake all night to complete that damn assignment and now I left that home. I am stuck with that 'If-you-don't-submit-then-no-internals' professor. "
Mocking is her thing.
"Come on, this isn't a bigger problem than mine" I was completely out of mood.
"I know and we are sorry to know that he was the one to tell about this to your family and --"
"Just--Don't talk about him. I am losing my--"
"Mind?" Ankita interrupted.
"I meant Patience !" I stared at her.
"Well, I will ask someone to bring my assignment, and yeah you girls better don't submit before me!" Aisha told the rule clearly.
Well, she is just making it easy for me. I don't have to leave early for that stupid damn thing.
"So, Suha?"
"Wedding plans huh?" Ankita giggled.
Seriously, don't know what's so funny.
"Shut up and at least for this time, Concentrate on the class" I turned away.
Ughh, God, help me get out of the mess created by that idiot.
"Suhana" Ishita mam's voice echoed the entire hall as I silently stood up, confused.
"You are wanted by the Dean"
What?
"What did you do?" Ankita whisper-yelled.
"I swear I didn't do anything like last time." I whispered swiftly and left the Lecture hall.
Well, It was my mistake that I took the wrong test for the patient last time, but it was completely not my fault.
I just did the wrong test, not the wrong procedure. Seriously.
But why does The Dean want to meet me now?
Leaving all my negative thoughts in the corridor, I gently opened the door to the Dean's cabin.
"Excuse me ma'am?"
"Yes, come in Suhana!" I opened the door swiftly only to realise that it was indeed not a good day for me.
Seriously? Vikram?
What is he even doing here?
Huh! It's definitely not a good day for me

Faeos Book One: The Stuff of Legends
A ragtag assemblage of adventurers, scraped together by seeming circumstance, investigate the theft of an ecologically essential artifact. In so doing, they find themselves embroiled (as adventurers so often do) in the larger machinations of a mischevious gnome, a determined mage or three, and a dire threat to their homes. Based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign begun several years ago, and still running. Faeos is one part combat, one part character building, and one part entirely justified silliness. Blame any lead character weirdnesses on my players, whom I love. Blame everything else on me. Oh, and yes, this should also be tagged "Unreliable Narrator."
