Peni is the only one home. Hunter went off to the court house before I woke up and the wanna-be-queen is laying on the couch watching some crappy TV show. As soon as she sees me, she pauses the show.

“Tell him yet?”

Anger shoots through my veins instantly. I turn to her, struggling to remain calm on the exterior.

“What exactly do I have to tell him? You don’t know what I thought you knew, Daniel’s reaction last night proved that. So what do you have against me?”

“You were out with my brother? Ug. Why does he have to date the trashy help? At least our maid was respectful!”

Now she’s really getting under my skin.

“What do you think you have on me? Spill it or there is nothing.”

She rolls her eyes in her dramatic and prissy manner before responding.

“Obviously there is something because you thought I knew it.”

“Tell. Me. Now.”

She makes a pouty face, sitting up a little on the couch.

“Aww. Is the help getting angry?”

It takes all my will to not slap the cockiness out of her. Instead, I take a deep breath and shrug.

“Guess you have nothing on me then.”

I get back to my job and she stops me, just as I thought she would.

“I know you like my fiancé, you little germ!”

That’s it? Just that I like him? That’s a huge relief. He won’t care. I’ve worked with girls who straight out told Hunter about the fantasies they had involving him. It just boosted his ego.

I keep my eyes forward as I speak. Even though it would be amazing to see her reaction, I’d rather make a dramatic exit.

“He deserves someone who likes him for something besides his money.”

Her offended gasp gives me all the satisfaction I need. I ascend the stairs with a smile on my face.

She’s going to rat me out for disrespecting her. I might as well drop the bomb tonight.
