《The Impossible Girl》Nine

Houston, Texas. Peter and Charlotte's home. 1852.
"Here we go, kid," Peter gestured to the new room for Melody.
It was the perfect room. The walls were a pale purple, a giant book shelf took up most of the left side of the wall, her twin sized bed was covered with a beautiful canopy and the bed was lined with stuffed animals.
"Oh, Peter! Its beautiful!" Melody cried, rushing around her new bedroom.
"I'm glad you like it, sweetie," Peter smiled.
About a year ago, Peter and Charlotte decided to take Melody away from Maria. Peter's knower said that it was time for Melody to leave Maria's side. Melody was thrilled to finally be rid of the psychotic vampire.
Charlotte appeared at Peter's side, a smile on her face. Peter looked fondly at his mate.
"I wish Jasper could have met her. He would have loved her," Peter commented.
"Its probably best he gets some distance and practice with the vegetarian diet before he meets her," Charlotte said.
"Isn't Jasper Maria's second in command?" Melody asked.
"He was. He's not proud of it. He's the one who helped us escape. In return, we came back for him," Peter smiled.
"Where is he now?"
"Well, honey, he went off on his own. It was four years ago when he left with his new found mate, Alice," Charlotte informed.
"Why don't you go visit?" Melody smiled.
Peter furrowed his brows. Why would Melody need to go with them?
"Now's not the time, kid," Peter said.
"Your knower?" Melody questioned.
Peter nodded. "Get you some sleep, pumpkin. It's been a long trip."
Peter and Charlotte left Melody to get ready for bed.
"What's it been telling you?" Charlotte asked of her mate.

"Melody needs to meet Jasper. It's just not the time yet," Peter frowned. "She's going to be important to him. I just don't know why."
"Maybe it's something that happens later on. Could we contact Alice?" Charlotte asked.
"Apparently, not," Peter grimaced.
"Your gift is very complicated," Charlotte rolled her eyes.
"Its not a gift," Peter grumbled.
Charlotte hummed skeptically. She cocked her head towards Melody's room, she was sound asleep. Charlotte wrapped her arms around Peter's neck, a knowing look in her eye.
"Melody is asleep now," she said in a suggestive tone.
Peter grinned widely, whisking his beautiful mate away.
Melody sat at the bar in the kitchen, stuffing her face with eggs and bacon. Melody has stopped growing long ago, she was stuck looking like a 16 year old.
"Easy, Melody. I don't feel like doing the heimlich maneuver today," Peter scowled at his temporary daughter.
Melody grinned around the food in her mouth.
"God, humans are so gross," Peter muttered.
"Hey! You drink blood!" Melody whined.
"And its delicious!"
"That's gross!"
"Hush, you two," Charlotte appeared in the doorway.
Peter playfully nudged Melody, making her nearly fall off the bar stool. He cackled and disappeared.
"Damn it, Peter!" Melody yelled after him.
"Watch your mouth!" He called back from somewhere in the house.
Melody sighed and finished her food. She set her plate in the sink and turned, squealing when she saw Peter right behind her. He was staring intently.
"Peter?" Melody's voice wavered.
"I think its time to go," Peter said vaguely.
"Go where?" Melody asked.
"To visit Japser."
"Why now all of a sudden?" Melody demanded.
Peter looked at her again, something big was going to happen. He could feel it.

Daughter, Peter thought. What did that mean? First, visit Jasper and now daughter? It was-
Peter's eyes widened. "HOLY SHIT!"
Melody jumped nearly four feet into the air, a startled yelp escaping her.
"My, God, Peter! What has gotten into you?" Charlotte scolded, wrapping Melody up in a hug.
Peter vanished. A few moments later, he reappeared with several bags packed and ready to go.
"It just came to me!" Peter said excitedly, tapping his forehead. "I know who your father is!"
"Who?" Melody squeaked.
"Jasper!"
"What?!" Melody and Charlotte exclaimed. Although, Melody showed a lot less enthusiasm than Charlotte.
"Don't worry! It'll be great!"
"He worked for Maria!" Melody cried.
"So did we, honey," Charlotte soothed.
Melody pouted, but followed Charlotte and Peter. They've never steered her wrong.

As Peter drove through Forks, he caught some more information. Ot startled him, making him slam on the brakes.
"I swear to God," Melody mumbled, running her forehead.
"Son of a bitch!" Peter breathed.
"What is it?" Charlotte questioned.
"Nothing," he said as he continued to drive. "We'll find out when we get there."
Peter pulled into a hidden drive. As the car rolled to a stop, Melody was in awe of how beautiful the house was. She noticed a group of vampires waiting on the porch. They all looked friendly enough. Melody got out of the car and hid herself behind Charlotte.
The male vampire with honey blonde hair made his way to Peter with a smile on his face. They clapped each other on their back in a hug.
"Its been a long time, brother," Jasper smiled.
"That it has. I have a surprise. Well, hopefully a surprise," Peter grinned, eyeing Alice. She nodded her head excitedly.
Melody was eyeing the human next to Japser as the conversation transpired. She looked very familiar.
"Come 'ere, kid," Peter said gently.
Melody slowly stepped out from behind Charlotte, walking carefully. The human next to Jasper gasped, making Melody stop walking. Jasper looked down at the human.
"Marrisa?" Jasper asked.
Marrisa took a tentative step forward, her hand reaching out. Her eyes filled with tears.
"Melody?" Marrisa whispered.
Melody studied Marrisa more closely. Memories flooded her mind, but they were fuzzy. But this woman's face was a constant. This woman was her mother.
"M-mom?"

Tim the Engineer
Summoned against his will to a world of swords and magic, an engineering student struggles to find a way home under the shadow of a world devouring threat. ***************************** Updates: 5/13/19: Revisions to several chapters for clarity, grammar, and style. 4/29/19: A short side story and artwork has been added to the blog. 4/8/19: A Side Story has been updated on my new blog (every writer is required to have one). https://talesfromliahar.wordpress.com/ ***************************** “The summoning scenarios are broken down into groups of ten.” Emi Ito stated. “Don’t, don’t you dare say another word.” Muttered Genzo Uchida. His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region

Every day was a struggle to survive just as it had always been. He, as well as most of the survivors that remained on earth, had resigned themselves to a life of wandering until their deaths.
