《The Impossible Girl》Eight

As Charlie walked into the kitchen, Marrisa was washing her... personal instruments. Marrisa didn't even turn when Charlie started talking.
"Everything okay?" Charlie asked.
"Yes, sir. All taken care of."
Marrisa finished washing and then turned, not making eye contact. She headed to the front door.
"Marrisa Grace Whitlock." Charlie scolded.
Marrisa stopped walking and flinched. He rarely used her full name, let alone her married name. She turned to look at him.
"Please, don't walk away from me," Charlie said. "Tell me what's wrong."
"I just... I- I." Marrisa sighed. "I didn't want them to see that."
Charlie nodded in understanding. "And now you have a lot of explaining to do."
"Not really," she shrugged. "They already know the gist of it. They just didn't know about that part. They're all very... accepting."
"That's good. You seem to be taking a liking to that Jasper boy," Charlie stated.
Marrisa smiled. "Oh, yeah. He gets me all hot and bothered. You know, we-"
"No! No, no, no, no!"
Marrisa started cackling and headed out the door. "That's what you get for asking about my love life!"
Charlie laughed along with her, shaking his head. She's always been great at masking her pain with humor. It worried him greatly. He supposed that it something she learned to do a long time ago.
When Marrisa stepped out into the cold, she realized that she had no idea what to do next. Was she go to the Cullen's? Explain? Would she take Bella's truck? She assumed that Edward drove her in his Volvo. Before she made a decision, she recognized Jasper's truck driving down her street.
Marrisa hopped in the truck, bracing herself for questioning.
"So, I get you all hot and bothered?" Jasper grinned.
"Damn you, Alice," Marrisa muttered.
Jasper started laughing. Marrisa smiled, a little worried why he hasn't questioned what had transpired.
"Why are you worrying?" Jasper asked gently.
"You don't seem upset."
"I just watched you die. Of course, I'm upset," he said as the corners of his mouth turned down. "I just didn't want to stress you out even more with twenty questions."

"I'm sorry... I just didn't think that specific situation would come into play so soon," Marrisa frowned.
"How are you alive?"
Marrisa stared ahead, trying to think of words.
"I'm not sure. I suppose it's part of the curse. Not only do I not age, I don't stay...dead. My mother said that when the witch cursed our family, she plagued us with eternal life. 'But, heed! It shall be painful!' She cursed the child of my mother, me."
"Why did the witch curse you only?"
Marrisa shrugged. "To spite my mother, I guess."
Jasper turned down the hidden drive to his home. He parked in the garage and sped to open the passenger door before Marrisa could even take off her seatbelt. When they entered the house, they were met with soft, yet cautious eyes.
"Hey, guys," Marrisa said shyly.
Esme was the first to flit over and wrap Marrisa in a hug. Marrisa hesitated, but hugged her back.
"How are you?" Esme asked.
"Tired. Dying takes a lot out of you," Marrisa attempted to joke.
Esme pulled back with a kind smile. "You need food and rest."
Marrisa nodded gratefully. "I would appreciate it."
Esme disappeared, more than likely into the kitchen to fix a meal.
"And Gus?" Edward asked.
"He's been taken care of," Marrisa waved a hand dismissively.
"How did you do that?" Alice asked. "You spoke to me in my vision."
"When you've been alive as long as I have, you learn a few tricks here and there," Marrisa smiled. "Since I had the gist of how your visions work, I knew you would be able to see and hear me. It gets tricky with all the timey wimey stuff."
Alice nodded in understanding.
"Your food is ready," Jasper informed.
He led Marrisa to the kitchen and she sat at the table. Esme set down her plate of food in front of her.
"Thank you, Esme," Marrisa said gratefully.
Esme bowed her head and disappeared.
Jasper sat with his wife, thinking about the right way to ask his question.

"When were you cursed?" Jasper asked.
"When I was in the womb. The curse is basically a part of my DNA."
"Do you think that it could have been passed down?"
Marrisa furrowed her eyebrows. She wasn't sure what he was getting at.
"Could it have been passed down to Melody?" Jasper whispered his daughter's name.
Marrisa put down the sandwich and sat back. It seemed plausible. Melody very well could have contracted the curse.
"That's a very good question. It's possible."
Marrisa's eyes started drooping.
Jasper smiled. "Let's get you to bed."
"So, are you both dating vampires?" Charlie asked almost desperately.
Bella and Marrisa exchanged a look, not sure what to say. Was Marrisa to tell her dad that Jasper was her lost husband? Maybe she should. Charlie's head fell into his hands as he groaned.
"I'm not really dating a vampire. I'm married to one," Marrisa said.
"What?"
Marrisa sighed. "Jasper is my husband. He's the one that died in the Civil War. Or so I thought. He was actually turned into a vampire."
"Son of a bitch," Charlie whispered.
"How do you know about vampires, dad?" Bella asked softly.
"Its a long story. I've known about the Cullens since I've met Carlisle," Charlie sighed. "I met a vampire before them. And after you and your mother left, Bella. Do you remember Heather?"
"Heather was a vampire!?" Bella shocked voice echoed through the house.
Charlie nodded solemnly.
"What happened? Where is she?"
"She was killed by some nomads passing through."
"Oh, my God. I had no idea," Bella looked very sad about it, which confused Marrisa greatly.
"I don't understand," Marrisa said.
"Dad was in love with her," Bella explained softly. "They were a couple."
"Really? What is it with this family and vampires?" Marrisa rolled her eyes.
Charlie chuckled dryly. Marrisa's cell phone dinged. She checked the screen, seeing she had a text from Jasper.
A letter was sent here for you.
She quickly texted back.
Who's it from?
Her cell signed again.
The Volturi.
Marrisa shoved her cell in her back pocket and snatched Bella's truck keys from the kitchen table.
"Let's go," she snapped.
Bella silently and obediently followed her sister to the truck. Marrisa peeled out of the drive and sped down the street, making Charlie curse her for driving so recklessly.
Marrisa skidded to a stop in the Cullen's driveway, threw open the door and stomped up the steps to where Jasper was waiting. He handed her the letter, feeling her anger. Marrisa snatched the letter and tore it open.
"Dearest Marrisa,
My deepest apologies for Jane's behavior. For she does not know who you are. We thought you dead for quite some time and I'm thrilled that you are still alive. Jane would like to personally seek your forgiveness. If you would be so kind to grace us with your presence, we would love to see you as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Aro
"Fuck!" Marrisa swore.
Her powers surged with anger and fury, making Jasper growl. The letter caught fire in Marrisa's hand and was reduced to ash.
"What's wrong?" Carlisle asked. The Cullen's gathered on the front porch.
"I've been summoned by the Volturi," Marrisa ground out.
Jasper continued rumbling deep in his chest.
"What? Why?" Bella pleaded.
"Aro knows that I was pissed about Jane's behavior the last time, so I'm assuming that they're going to grovel at my feet for forgiveness so I don't think about killing them all."
"Can you do that?" Emmett asked.
Marrisa giggled, showing her psychotic side. "With the snap of my fingers. They've just been doing well keeping their kind in check."
Alice sucked in a short breath, she was seeing something.
"Jasper. Peter and Charlotte are going to visit," Alice informed.
Jasper furrowed his eyebrows. "When?"
"Tomorrow."
Jasper looked at Marrisa, confusion plain on beautiful face.
Well, shit.
