"Haechan! Haechan! Haechan! My name is Haechan~ Haechannie~~"
Mark laughed at the boy who was jumping around his room, clearly happy with his new name. He was wearing one of Mark's old hoodies with a pair of sweatpants, his hair completely dried by now.
"Come here, Haechan," Mark patted his bed. The younger turned his focus towards Mark, immediately acknowledging the name, before running over and jumping onto the white sheets, a playful grin spread across his face. "My parents are coming home soon, and I told them you are my friend, and that you're staying here for a while," he said. "So don't do something weird, okay?"
Haechan gave him a thumbs up. "Got it, Sir!"
Mark smiled and patted the younger's head. "Oh," he gasped. "And if they ask about us, we met at school and you're one grade below me. We became friends at a school event and have been hanging out a few times ever since," Mark made up.
The younger frowned. "Why lie?"
Mark looked down. "I want to keep you a secret. Just for now," he said. "My parents might hand you to the police if they find out how we really met today."
And maybe the right thing was to get Haechan the right help. But something in Mark stung at the thought of saying goodbye to the boy. Maybe he secretly wanted to keep the younger, and maybe that's why he doesn't want anyone to get involved in this mess, no matter how wrong that is. Call him selfish, but he couldn't care less.
"Mark, I'm confused," Haechan whispered.
"That makes sense. I would be confused if I was in your place too."
Haechan stopped him. "No," he said. "It's not that."

Mark raised an eyebrow, a little worried. "Then what is it that's confusing you?" he asked.
The younger pouted and clenched his hands tightly on his chest. "My heart. It sometimes pumps so fast," he whispered, afraid his heart might hear it and start pumping fast again. If Jeno had said this, Mark would have laughed out loud, but somehow his body warmed inside when the tanned boy said it.
"Maybe you're nervous," the older suggested.
Haechan poked his chest right at the place where his heart lied. "What's nervous?"
"When you are scared or excited for something to happen you can start feeling nervous, it's hard to explain," Mark scratched his head. It made absolutely no sense to him, how a person could just forget everything, from what their name is to how to take a normal shower.
At that moment, Mark thought it might have been wrong to interfere in the boy's life. He should've called the police, or taken him to the hospital. Haechan's case could be bigger and more gruesome than he thought. The younger could've been kidnapped and escaped, or set up as a trap, Mark wouldn't know.
A silence fell.
"What if I won't remember anything again?" Haechan broke it, the tone of his voice making Mark feel sad again. It was too late now.
Haechan was Mark's responsibility and Mark was going to protect him at all costs.
Mark had made up his mind, and the decision he chose would both be the best and the worst decision he had ever made in his life.
"Don't worry Haechan, I'll help you remember again."
"Promise?"
"I promise."

"Marker! Mini, mommy, daddy home!"
Mark looked at Haechan as he heard the front door open downstairs, followed by his sister's loud yells and his moms dangling keys. The tanned male looked excited and happily followed Mark down to the lower floor.

"Remember what we planned?" Mark whispered, receiving a cute nod from the other.
Walking down the carpeted stairs, the two made their way to the lower floor, creaks following them and small, exciting sounds leaving the younger's curved lips. Before walking into the living room where Mark assumed his family was at at the moment, he gave Haechan a sign to stay at the door opening.
The brunette pouded but obliged.
"Marker!" Mini screamed and ran towards Mark once he entered the living room. She ran into his arms and he picked her up, hugging her tightly.
"I missed you Min-"
"Who thad?"
Mark was interrupted by his sister who was looking at something behind him. His heart started pumping as he suddenly saw Haechan appear next to him. Mini shook herself out of Mark's grip and plumped down to the ground to take a look at the boy whom she has never seen before.
"Oh, you must be Mark's friend that's staying over!" Mark's dad appeared together with his mom. "Nice to meet you!" he smiled and stretched out his hand.
Haechan looked at it confused before quickly shaking it. Mark had taught him a few things after the shower while they waited for his family to come home. A handshake was one of them.
"Nice to meet you too!" Haechan said and passed his personal grin, causing Mark's mom to coo at how cute he looked.
While everything had taken place above her, Mini had taken her time to stare at the new boy very intensely. She thought he looked extremely familiar and she squinted her eyes, trying to recall who he was. Tan skin, light brown hair, cute smile-
"Haechan! Marker, you find Haechan!"

Trickster's Tale (Book 1): Is That A Lute In Your Pocket will release on Kindle Unlimited on the 10th of May.Due to KU's exclusivity rules, I've had to take most of book 1 down.Book 1 Bard's Ballad takes place in the same extended Universe as my other story, The Houndsman. It's set on a distant 'disk', though. As a result, the magic system is unique in comparison and has a harder LitRPG system. While the story utilises stats, it doesn't take them seriously and occasionally makes fun of regular LitRPG mechanics.
