《The Fourth Friend (An Amphibia Story)》Part 8: Putting The Plan In Place

Skylar's P.O.V
It's been just a few days since me and Sasha's failed mission and during that time I've been cooped up in my room. I've got a few bruises and my hand still hurts but overall I'm fine. Sasha insisted that I stay inside and rest but she still filled me in about what has been going on around the tower. Apparently ours wasn't the only mission that didn't go according to plan, frogs all across the Valley were beginning to rebel against the toads all inspired by one frog, Hopadiah Plantar. Who he was I still had no clue but whoever he was he was managing to be a real thorn in the toads side.
'Hey Sky, you awake?'
'Yeah I'm up'
'You good to get up? Cause Grime says he needs to tell us something'
'I've been good to get up for days, you just won't let me leave the room'
'Well I'm sorry for wanting to make sure my little sister who let me remind you, ALMOST DIED! is safe'
'I know I know and thank you Sasha'
'No problem, now get up and meet me in the boardroom' and with that she leaves.
I get up out of bed and move to the window, I look down at the scene below. The statue of Sasha which I pushed out the window was still there, you could see toads on patrol, tending to the terrifying giant spiders and just talking to each other. I smile and then proceed to head to the boardroom.
I open the door and see Sasha and Grime waiting there.
'Ah lieutenant, good to see you finally out of bed'
'Good to be here, what did you want to tell us?'
'Right straight to business. As you're both aware, every tax collection mission was met with resistance from the residents and in every town we've found evidence that this little rebellion has been inspired by a frog named Hopadiah Plantar. After a small amount of digging around we've determined that he lives in Wartwood... along with someone else of interest'

'And that person of interest is...' Sasha prompts him to continue.
'My soldiers have reported a creature that shares a description with the two of you, I can only assume it would be one of your friends'
With those words I can feel the hope swell in my chest. Was is Anne? Was it Marcy? I didn't mind I was just overjoyed that we finally have some news on our friends.
'What description did you get?! We'll be able to tell if it's Anne or Marcy?!' I excitedly ask.
'Well the report says it's the same creature as you, it fought with a tennis racket-'
'IT'S ANNE!' I gleefully shout, cutting him off. 'Sasha we found Anne!' I cheer, hugging her. I then turn back to Grime. 'We have to go get her right away' I say.
'Slow down Sky, I know your excited that we found Anne, I am too but we still have to deal with that Hopadiah guy'
'Sasha's right, remember the deal we made was that we would help you find your friends if you helped us restore order to the Valley and making an example out of this frog is as good a start as any' he explains.
'But-'
'I promise you that you'll see your friend soon enough but first we need to devise a plan'
'Urg fine' I sigh.
'What kind of plan have you got so far' Sasha asks.
'The plan is to execute the traitor, Hopadiah Plantar. My soldiers have captured a large Venus Flytrap but it's no use just capturing him, we need to... put on a show'
'So you want to make sure the frogs see the old frog get eaten?' Grime nods at Sasha's question. 'Why not just bring all of Wartwood here?'

'And how do you suppose we do that? Would you like us to march up to the town and simply say 'we're here to execute one of your friends, come with us and watch' I don't think so'
'Yeah I guess you have a point there, Sky you got any ideas?
I vaguely heard Sasha call my name but I was too busy thinking. I know that dealing with this revolution is part of the deal we made with Grime so we didn't have much of a choice. I don't feel right literally KILLING someone even if they are a frog, but looking at it as a whole, losing one frog who I don't know and won't ever talk to after we leave Amphibia in exchange for getting my best friend back, it made sense and seemed like a pretty good deal to me.
'Why don't we just trick them?' I finally speak up. 'Lure the frogs here with the false cover of a... party or something and then when they're all settled in do the whole execution thing' I propose.
'That's actually not a bad idea' Grime smiles.
'Good job Sky, good to see your brain actually works' Sasha laughs as she softly punches me in the arm.
'So the plan seems to be, we go to Wartwood invite the town to a banquet celebrating you and your friend's reunion then when they least expect it execute the traitor and show those frogs to not challenge the toads' Grime smiles.
After a few more minutes of discussing the plan we left Grime. Sasha went down to the training grounds and I went back to our room, I was going to follow Sasha but she said that I still needed to stay inside to make sure I was fine for going to Wartwood. So here I am sitting by the window in our room looking between the view and the photo of everyone in my hand.
'Not much longer now Anne, we're coming for you' I smile at the picture.
'Not long at all'

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’
