《Fireflys》Chapter 7

"I'll be right back." Anne said, putting down Polly and walking away.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"I dunno." Polly shrugged, and hopped on the back of Bessie.
I hopped up next to her.
" how much did you get for the worms?" I asked Hop Pop.
" I got a lot of copper!" He chuckled "Those worms did us good!"
He got on Betsy and stretched. A minute went by, and Polly startled me.
"oh. My. GOSH?!" She hopped higher on Bessie, "Anne's talking to Jax Sunflower?!" She giggled.
"Jax Sunflower?" I asked, looking to where Polly was looking.
Anne was at what looked to be a food stand. And she was talking to 'Jax'?
"Who's Jax?" I asked.
And why are they talking?
"You don't know who Jax is?!" Polly grinned, "Jax is Mrs.Croakers grandson!! He's so handsome, and sweet...and HANDSOME!!!" She chuckled mischievously, "I wonder if Anne thinks that too." Polly then started jumping and waving her arms around.
Handsome? Oh please! He looks like.....mh..
crap...he is..Why's Anne talking to him?!
"Oooh! She's coming back!! I need to ask her what he smells like!" Polly jumped off Bessie and jumped after Anne. Once Anne was close enough, Polly jumped in her arms.
"DID HE SMELL LIKE STRAWBERRIES?!" Polly shook her.
"......would I be killed if I said that I didn't smell him?" Anne nervously chuckled.
Polly groaned and jumped off.
"Figures...Anywayssss, What happened?! I need details!!" Polly grinned.
Anne and Polly got on Bessie, and Hop Pop started driving. I sat next to him with my arms crossed.
"What were you two talking about?!" Polly asked excitedly.
"I mean...I got some food from him?" I shrugged, " he gave it to me for free, so.."

"He did?! I knew that he was sweet!!" Polly cheered.
Sprig groaned from the front seat.
"What's so special about food? That doesn't make him sweet.."
Polly giggled and moved over to my ear.
"Sprig's sooooo jealous..."
"No, I'm not!" Sprig said, annoyed.
Polly turned back to me and mouthed 'he sooo is.'
Why would Sprig be jealous? And..jealous how?
"Oh! Here ya are, Anne!" Hop Pop handed a small bag back to me, "I picked out some clothes for you. Well..a nice young lady at the shop picked it out for you.." he chuckled.
"Thanks Hop Pop!" I say, picking up a few of the outfits.
Man, that lady has some good taste!
We got back to the house and went inside.
"Welp, I'm going to bed now, kiddos. Goodnight!" Hop Pop said, walking up the stairs.
"Same with me." Polly yawned, "night!" She hopped away.
Hm. Not really tired.
"Hey Sprig, wanna hang out?-"
"I'm tired too." He said suddenly, cutting me off and walking grumpily up the stairs.
What's his deal?
I shrugged and went to my chambers, climbing into my bed. I suddenly felt really tired. The day went by so quickly.
I fell asleep pretty instantly.
I woke up and stretched. Man, that was some good sleep.
"Kids! Breakfast!" Hop Pop called.
I stood and grabbed my phone, then walked up the stairs.
"Hey guys, I saw some pretty tasty berries near where we got the worms yesterday! Do you wanna-" I looked around, realizing that I was talking to myself.
"Hello?" I asked, confused.
We always start our day in the dinning room..so where were they?
I walked up to the top floor, and peeked into everyone's rooms.
No one? Maybe they're outside eating with Bessie??...
I walked outside and looked around. I then heard a thud by Bessie's pasture.

I knew it!
"Hey guys, what are you doing out here-?"
I stopped in my tracks, shocked.
Hop Pop and Polly weren't here. Instead, it was..Sprig and Ivy?..
I sat up panting.
"T-the heck....what?.." I bit my lip.
A dream?....Why am I so worked up? Sprig says that he doesn't like her!
"But then..."
Even so, why do I feel this way when I think about it? Why does it even matter? And..Since when do I dream about Sprig Kissing anyone?
I shook my head at the odd nature of my dream. It's just a dream! A stupid, non meaningful dream!
I stood up and walked up the stairs. I needed some fresh air.
The farm felt cool tonight. It was a nice feeling. The moon was almost down, which indicated that morning wasn't for another few hours. I guess I can go keep Bessie company.
I walked over to the barn, and heard her chirp at me.
"Hey girl." I chuckled. I opened her stall and sat next to her, hugging up against her.
I could still see the stars through the open barn doors, and I almost forgot that I was in another world. This is...home. These frogs are my family.
I smiled lightly and felt my eyes get heavy. My vision was then engulfed by darkness.
"Bro, What should I get Anne and Jax for their one year anniversary?!" Polly asked excitedly, " I was thinking something really cool! Oh! Maybe we can make them some pizza!"
"Wait..anniversary?" I asked.
She chuckled and crossed her arms.
"Sprig, are you alright? Be excited with me! She's your best friend!"
"But what if I don't want that?" I sighed.
She tilted her head, "don't want ?"
I shove my hands in my pockets, "forget about it...what were you talking about?" I sighed.
She bit her lip and looked down.
"Sprig...is there something that you need to say?"
"I-I...I don't know..."
"Sprig..come on, I'm your sister.. you can talk to me.."
My eyes open and I sit up, seeing Polly on the edge of my bed.
"Polly? What are you doing in here?" I asked, realizing that before was a dream.
"I went to get some water, and then you started talking in your sleep. You said 'what if I don't want that?', so I came in.. I thought you were awake though.."
"I'm fine. You can go back to sleep-"
She sighed and nodded, "Alright..but we're all here for you."
"Alright, Polly..." I tried my best to give her a reassuring smile, but it couldn't feel more fake.
She hopped off my bed, and gave me one last glance before exiting my room.
Once she was gone, I let out a deep sigh and fell back against my bed.
What does this 'Jax' guy have that I don't?
I heard an all familiar chirp from outside, so I walked over to my window.
I could see the barn out of the corner of my eye, and saw that the doors were open.
Is someone in there?
I walked down the stairs with my blanket around me, and walked outside. I peaked in the barn, and didn't see anyone...but why is Bessies stall open?
I walked up to Bessie and saw that she was half asleep. Below Bessie though, was Anne.
Anne was leaned against Bessie, basically hugging the snail. Her eyes were closed peacefully as she slept.
Why did she come out here?
She moved slightly, and I unwrapped the blanket from myself.
I covered her with the blanket, and quietly left the barn.
