《Smii7yxOC》Dates. But Not Mine.

Water crashed against the sand and smiles filled the beach. My hands ran through the loose and warm grains. My butt was on hot wood as the decking outside the patio was put to use.
Evan and John emerged at the same time as the night grew darker. I finished the very last swig of my beer and put it down. My arm extended and John took it. His smile a cheeky one that monkeys would be jealous of.
"You look like you just shat yourself and you got away with it." John laughed at me and Evan agreed.
The bar was close and as we entered Evan gave the signal to the girl and then swiftly walked over to her. I felt a smile tug as I sat on the chair that was in a prime place to see and hear everything.
By the time the date had finished, it was too late and John had really been going for the act as he kept holding my hand and I couldn't stop odd smiles and laughs. He was trying to elicit a reaction the whole time and I kept giving him one.
After a safe distance had been walked from the bar John and I followed up. A quick kiss had been given to her and I couldn't help the wide smile.
"Marry her. She has a phone case only kings and queens possess. My phone case. Seriously though Evan. Do it. She seemed legit and I like her. One day I can visit you and all of the thousands of kids you guys will have and I can see what good I have done." Evan smiled and hugged me so tight. The smile had been there all night but it grew almost too large.
Walking back I got so tired that I had no clue how I was still walking. The shoes were off as soon as we got in and my eyes landed as if instinctively, on Jaren. I sighed and gave a small whisper about going to bed.

I changed into a long top that met my thighs. The top was still slightly damp from where I had washed it and so I hung it back up. My next choice was a pair of pants and some type of night bra. I climbed into my bed. The only bed that was a double that didn't take a couple, and I almost fell asleep.
"You can't avoid Smii7y forever." John had entered silently and pulled the duvet back to let the air hit me again.
"I'm not. I am so tired. It is like eleven and I am an old woman. Just let me sleep." Hands landed on my wrists and a shirt was thrown at me. Evan had entered at one point as well.
"I want to sleep." Evan's top smelt of him and I enjoyed the smell so I did pull it onto my body. I looked down and pouted. Hopes of sleep claimed me.
"Just come out." He wasn't being aggressive or angry. His voice was soft and suggesting more than commanding. After taking in the words I walked out reluctantly after them.
John and Evan sat beside each other on the sofa and pulled me onto their laps. John let his fingers run through my hair. It was so full of sand and the salt from the sea had a massive impact but I was too tired to care for it.
"Ella. We're going to the arcade tomorrow if you fancy it." I shook my head and buried my face into John's chest to block out the light. Scotty must have thought I was so rude but I was asleep before I could have done anything about it.
Sleep filled my eyes and the back of my hand rubbed it all away. I turned and pulled up close to the body beside me. They had no top on and I vaguely remember pulling the top Evan had given me off during the night. Laughs that were shushed filled the air and I sat up. Scratching my head I peaked up to the people. Anthony stood with his camera and filmed me in bed.

"Come on. Up you get." I covered my face with the duvet and hid. Not only did I hate the morning but the camera was blaring in my face. Evan seemed to wake up as well and he jumped up. Getting dressed. Jaren stood in the corner and said nothing.
"We are going to the arcade." Tyler then let rip in the air and I sighed. Hating that they had woken me up for nothing.
"I don't want to go. I need to get some stuff done today. No rest for the wicked." Grunts and grumbles sounded but eventually I had heard them all leave and I climbed out of the bed and walked into the kitchen. Walls were covered with the regular things that they always were in holiday homes.
My thoughts stopped as movement was in my peripheral. I turned and looked to see if it could hurt me. I was all right but then at the same time, I wasn't. No one had broken in though.
"What are you doing here?" The others hadn't even tried to convince me to join them and it had confused me a bit. Jaren walked over to me and I backed up so that my hips hit the side behind me. Jaren only got closer.
"I have things to do. I could ask you the exact same question." His voice was crisp and he was angry with me.
"Don't act surprised that I am angry. We had broken up. Fine, then you come on this holiday and I find out you are with Evan. If you think you can deny it you are wrong. Last night you went on a date, last night he was in your bed and you are all over one another. Just leave me alone. Not just that but you have been FaceTiming and flirting online for ages. Even back home." There it was and I wanted to smile but I put it off. He had finally told me what had been bugging him for so long.
"Well, I am sorry that sleeping me couldn't get Evan out of my bed. Even so, why does that matter to you? What was the last thing you said to me when you broke up with me? 'move on' so you should be glad that Evan and I get on with each other. Also, he has been talking to me for a while, yes, but, not so we could get together." He interrupted me and he knew that was a bad thing to do. I hated being so belittled. "Jaren. You didn't let me finish. Last night I went on a date with John. Evan found out a girl he likes in Canada has come on holiday here and wanted me to look at her. I gave a thumbs up and the go-ahead. Jaren, you have created an entire relationship up in your head." He silenced and looked down. My body was out to be viewed and that was all that he was able to see but I had a feeling he was far too focused on his thoughts.

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/

Have you ever noticed that the letter Q is unnecessary? It doesn't provide any function to the language. Any word spelled with it could just as easily be spelled with other letters. Does that mean it shouldn't exist? Of course not. In this universe, everything has a place. Cosmic balance, Karma, God's plan, the laws of physics—they're all trying to describe the same thing. There is nothing that exists without purpose, and nothing without purpose that can exist. You can take solace in knowing that, just like the useless letter Q, you have birthright to exist in this world. Nothing can take that from you. Unless a creator God breeds technicolor angel-beasts hellbent on ripping you out of reality, of course. When Mina learns that she was a cosmic accident—a being accidentally created without purpose—what was once an easygoing life starts to entwine with conspiracies, impossible occurrences, and deadly occult mysteries. Not to mention friends so dangerous and unpredictable they make the cosmic horrors look normal by comparison. When the questions never stop piling up, it's hard to know where to begin. But I'll give you a hint: they all begin with a Q.
