『you can't kill what's already dead, and you can't break what's already broken.』
"That's a long story." Aizawa mumbles still trying to avoid the inevitable. "I have time," Izuku presses looking down before continuing, "...way too much time." It's numbly said, as Izuku becomes very quiet towards the end. A trait that the older man has picked up on. Aizawa in turn and hums in acknowledgement before letting out a puff of air. Almost a laugh and almost a sigh. He seems to accept that there's no more putting it off. And how this kid will not let it go.
"Okay fine." He retorts in surrender. "But in return I'd like a few of my questions answered by you. Do we have a deal?" The man says with a lazy smile that doesn't quite match the look in his eyes instead it turns his expression more sinister than intended.
Izuku is more than sure the man didn't mean any harm from his answer, or the questions he inevitably has, but the look on the mans face and his words makes Izuku want to laugh and cry simultaneously. It's a face he know too well. The nothing comes for free face. He's seen that face too much recently. And the deal. Why did he have to call it that? Shigaraki said the same thing before... before.
Izuku knows his face rats out how he is feels and tells Aizawa that he accidentally said something he shouldn't have. It's clear that whatever Aizawa did say made the boy either uncomfortable, scared, nervous or some combination of the three. Izuku hates that he, most likely, upset them man. Izuku hates how too many thing remind him of times better left unspoken.
Izuku doesn't want to be the problem. He doesn't want to be the traumatised child, or the boy in need of help. Hell he doesn't even want to be dead. He hates relying on others. He hates owing people things. He hates all of this!
He almost laughs at that. Life doesn't listen to the people that serve it. Death doesn't discriminate against anyone who once lived. It will take everyone if you give it time.
It's when Aizawa's face falls slightly that Izuku knows he's making that face. He's been out of it internally pondering life and death for the past minute or so, so of course he's making that face. It's a face his mother would point out when he was alive.
Wow that's weird to say.
He can almost hear her voice laughing at how blank his face is. How his eyes hold that far off glance that he does when leaving his mind. A face his mother lightly scolded him for, she'd say he looked too scared, or rude, spacing out and he should listen to what she'd saying.
It's a nice memory that pops up. It give the boys mind a rest from his usual trauma filled nightmare. He wishes he could see his mother now. Izuku thinks he can remember her sill. Her warm smile or a far off memory of her singing while making food. Her favourite tea and how she made it on the hob. Was it green tea? Or a herbal blend? Why is he forgetting her? It hasn't even been that long? What a week? Two weeks? That's nothing so why...
He knows he must look scared as well as looking so very sceptically at the man. It's not Aizawa's fault that all izuku's trust has been stolen by humans... is izuku still classed as a human?

Whatever he is, he has far to go to be able to trust someone again. Hard to let them do something for him, without them expecting something in return. People never do something for free. They will always want something back. Always.
Maybe Aizawa isn't like that. Maybe the boy can trust him but something is holding him back and instead of breaking free, he lets whatever it is, hold him tight. It's an almost protective grasp that tries to prevent him from hurting more.
Izuku doesn't even know why he thinks like that or where his strong opinion on the world and it's people came from, it just seems to be a warning drilled into his mind. Looping around so he doesn't forget.
And that's how we reach the main problem, He wants to know what happened to him and why he's suddenly... changing. Like ghost puberty? Ew no gross! Not like that, never like that.
And Of course he would want to know. In his shoes Who wouldn't, But is it worth the potential out come of these questions? The ones Aizawa is going to ask.
The possibility of the question being too personal, or what if Aizawa got cross with him and tried to hurt him? Now that Izuku can sit and feel things better could he be hurt again? Would Aizawas hand go straight through him? If that happened would he be forced to leave. What if he couldn't answer them. Something is physically stopping or glitching his brain.
He can't be loosing memories that fast. He can't forget big chunks of his life like that. And he should have no filter on what he says on different topics. Yet here he is stuck in a hero's house all because he couldn't say what he wanted to about himself.
What if he simply didn't know the answer. Would Aizawa believe him if he explained that? Would that just fuel his anger towards the boy. Is...is Aizawa angry at Izuku? Right now is Aizawa just waiting to ditch him?
That's the last thing the white haired boy wants to do. He likes it here. He really does he won't even hesitate to say that. So he doesn't want to loose it. He doesn't want to disappoint Aizawa with his answer, he doesn't want to fail his expectations either. He just wants to stay. This apartment is... he just has this feeling that...
It's warm, and Aizawa for now seems to be very nice to him. Not wanting much in return other than some answers it seems. He should be able to do that no problem. He practically owes him that much at the least!
So why? Why is he hesitant? Could it really go that wrong. The questions, if Izuku could answer them or not in the first place. Or if they cause another break down like last time.
Is that what happened to him? He had a full on break down? Ghost break down, that ended in him collapsing? It's all a bit fuzzy but He can remember a drop? No,
The Drop.
Yes, the moment when instead of floating above the sofa he fell onto it. It was probably easy to miss but he felt it. It shook his whole being. All the weight of a body slammed into him. The feeling of floating or laying in water was gone in a second.
Poof. Vanished with no trace. The small fall of only a few inches at most triggered his memory of falling back down. Falling from the clouds on the day he died. Reminding him of how stuck he really is in the world. He's stuck eternally it seems.

He almost shakes his head. Is it really surprising to himself to find that, yes he is still here. He is in his house. His old house. It's not his anymore. Nothing is his anymore. He can't hold possessions anymore only memories. Which At the moment his memories are failing him.
He's in a strangers house that used to be his. He has got medical supplies near him so either Aizawa or a doctor tried to patch him up for whatever reason. There's not much can be done for someone who's dead. If a doctor was here could they see that fact he was dead. It shouldn't be hard since he doesn't breath or have a heart. Is this the way he'll be found out?
The gray eyed boy can only believe these medical supplies are related to the whole blacking out slash falling slash sleeping thing that's going on. And what's up with the body upgrades?
He laughs at that. No matter the injuries he gets. He can't die from them. You can't die twice. And he is in fact dead. Very, very dead... right? Yeah he watched himself die.
Ugh he regretted saying or thinking that. That sent shivers down his spine. As far as he's concerned he doesn't want to think of...that. He practically got himself immortality.
Granted it was at the cost of pretty much everything he had and everything he held dear but still. Ah no he was getting carried away again. what was he supposed to be thinking of? Oh yes Aizawa.
The stranger who took him in. And the price of a deal he could make. Ever since that day he really became a no deal kind of guy. You never know what you're getting into. And if you do think you know. You. Are. Wrong. So, so, so wrong. In fact the deal he made literally cost him his life.
Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.
That's how the saying goes right? This may not be the second time but he still won't be fooled again. He didn't even get to say good bye.
Who would he say good bye too his family right? His mother, Auntie and uncle that strange boy and that other boy. His friend? Who was it?
It doesn't matter now, all trace of his mom is gone... and kacchan? Huh is that him. Yes Kacchan... Is...is he still okay? Where is he? Is he here? And the other Shoto, the son of- never mind.
Ah but that's in the past. Now he has to decide on this deal. Maybe he's being over dramatic or cautious but to him a deal is a deal. It's all the same no matter how big or small. But his deal saved people. Kacchan is alive because Izuku saved him, right? kinda? Sorta?
Just give him this one. It's the only thing remotely heroic that he'll do in his life. Or did do in his life. Man he keeps forgetting that he's dead. Probably not a good idea.
Classic deku must have been thinking for too long because what snaps him out of his mind is Kacchan's concerned voice calling for him. "Deku?" He calls.
Why doesn't it sound familiar? The voice is too far away.
'Is Kacchan far away, come closer so I can hear you better.'
"Deku are you okay?" When would he ever ask Izuku that? It would be totally out of character for him. Even when they're alone he still doesn't ask it like that. And what's up with the voice change? Had he been screaming too much again? When will this stubborn boy listen to him?
"Hay what's wrong? Can you hear me?" Oh. That's more like it. But why isn't he calling him Izuku? They are alone aren't they? Did he fall asleep while Kacchan was talking again? Oh dear he's going to be mad if that's the case.
'No but he's asking if I'm okay?' Is Izuku okay? Did he pass out again. Or did the bullies get to him? A villain maybe? Oh or another bad dream? He's being very kind though not shouting too loud. He knows the green haired boy spooks easily.
"Deku." 'Yes?'
"Deku?" 'Yes? What is it?'
"Deku!"
'What! Kacchan stop shouting I'm answering you? What do you want?'
"K-kac...Kacchan?"
"N-no. Deku it's me Aizawa. Do you remember me? How do you feel? You spaced out on me there."
Oh. That's right Izuku is dead. Kacchan isn't here. And the somewhat nice stranger is asking if he's okay. Is he okay? Did he already ask himself that?
Oh now he's confused. "Aizawa? What...my head." He lightly touches his head his skin is it's normal deathly cold but as he moves his hand his head starts getting warmer and warmer. "Hot..? But I'm cold." He slurs out. "Deku you should lie down." Aizawa says lightly pushing on the boys shoulders. Izukus eyes blow wide as he falls back body going limp. "Deku? Hay kid! Are you okay?"
The boy can only lay there wide gray eyes shaking as his body flushes hot then cold.
"What's...going on? W-why am I? What's w-wrong with m-me?" Izuku couldn't move his body as his words start to become unclear. Aizawa in a new wave of panic tries to calm the boy down. "Hay hay! Relax you're okay. You're safe. Just breath for me okay?"
Izuku tries to move his chest. Tries to take in air, but the dead don't need to breath. They have no lungs. "I-I can't do that..." he struggles out. "Why? What?" Aizawa says pressing a hand to his chest. "You won't feel..."
"Kid why aren't you breathing?"
It's stern and laced in confusion. "I can't!" Izuku whines out. Twitching his limbs that feel too heavy now he's not floating. "I see you can't but why?" Aizawa presses on. "I don't know- quirk?"
Aizawa sighs deeply. Thinking on the spot on how to help. "Kid this quirk is killing you? I'm going to try and turn it off okay? That's my quirk, erasure." The man explains rubbing his eyes ready to try. "N-no-" it's too late. Eraserhead's eyes glow red and his black hair rises.
A strange eerie quiet comes over the room. The boys body relaxes and it finally seems peaceful. Until Izuku shoots through the ceiling. Now Aizawa has his quirk activated whatever was keeping him grounded was released meaning. He's now floating higher and higher. He knew something bad would happen if Aizawa used his quirk but even this is a little too much. He's moving faster than he normally would and is phasing through everything that stands in his way. Full ghost mode is activated and nothing is bringing him down.
Until it stops. He must be on the floor below the roof, that's when he stalls. The floating flickers and when it finally stops he starts to fall. And He falls fast, zipping through the rooms one after another picking up speed as he does. Every floor he passes through makes him twitch uncomfortably. It's not how it usually feels. When he gets to the room he started in he's easily going as fast as a train. He slams back first into the wooden floor. Body bouncing up once before he stills.
Izuku coughs or chocks. He's not sure but all the pressure left his body only to slam back into him. His back aches with a painful throb and his head hangs heavily to the side looking towards eraserheads shoes. He's in a crumbled pile that is surprisingly comfortable.
'I thought being dead wouldn't hurt?' "I-ow we're not doing that again." Izuku chuckles out. Closing his eyes to try and numb the pain. "Aizawa you just slam dunked me so hard. I feel like my non existent ribs came back only to leave again."
Aizawa stands there silent. "What... the heck was that?" He demands leaning down to the boy that lay still on the ground. The white haired boy tries to shrug finding talking to take too much energy.
"Kid wh- are you okay?" He asks scooping up the fragile body. "Y-your touching me?" is all Izuku musters up. Too fascinated by the feeling to worry about anything else. "Yes, sorry I have to put you back on the bed. I did this yesterday too. Hope you don't mind." He says softly. Izuku just leans into the touch before the man set him down on the bed again gently. "It's been so long..." Izuku muses as he closes his eyes. "Aizawa there is something wrong with me." He states.
"I know kid."
"But I don't know what it is."
"Yeah, I know kid...
Don't worry deku, we'll get through this. Now sleep before something else happens."
"Okay...thanks shota..."
