《Whodunnit ?》Chapter 21 - Dopplegangers

Jamie & Nelson ignored Giles as they shuffled back into the parlor, they knew that each of them needed information from their team before the riddle started. And normally the time before a riddle and after the initial investigation wasn't a long amount of time.
"Ok. We don't have much time. What did you guys find?" Nelson immediately huddled with his group.
Michelle & Brianna went first. "Ok so at the bottom of the pool there was a pill bottle. So when we got it out of the water it was called something like Biplonal or Biliponal?" Brianna couldn't exactly remember what the pills that were found at the bottom of the pool were called.
"I think it was called Bliponal." Michelle reminded Brianna of the actual name.
The two girls looked at Reynold. hoping that the doctor would know what the pills were made for.
Reynold shook his head back at them "Sorry, I don't know what that is."
Michelle sighed before continuing "Other than that there was a wooden catapult behind the bushes which surround the pool."
"So that explains how she got in the pool then," Nelson added the points together.
"Yep." Brianna popped the 'p'
Reynold went next. "Natalie had a drink of water in her room. However, it had this weird white paste type thing in the bottom of the glass."
"That could be the pills possibly." Brianna pointed out.
"And she had a half-done crossword. But we couldn't find the pen which was strange because there was a dried blood spot on that page along with the pen ink being like dragged across the whole page."
Nelson went last. "At the morgue, she had this massive head wound. Like it was horrible, I could see bits of her skull and brain."
The guests all shuddered at the sight of Natalie's head wound.
"So do you know what caused it?" The doctor asked.
"No." Nelson shook his head.
"Alright then, we just need to win this riddle and we can breathe easy. If any of them get it then we are screwed." Reynold pointed to Dan & Jamie who were across the room.
-
"So she had a drink with some white stuff in it. She had a crossword and there was a blood trail?" Jamie wanted to confirm he had all of Dan's findings at the last known whereabouts.
"Yes that's correct," Dan confirmed.
"Okay well at the morgue, Natalie had this massive head trauma wound that I think killed her. Along with these marks on her back which honestly looked like she'd been stabbed with a pen."
"The pen that was missing from her room?" Dan speculated.
"That's what I think." Jamie smiled
"Other than that there were obvious marks from where she hit the water. And from the looks of it, I think she hit the water from a high distance."
"What like ceiling height?" Dan asked.
"It's possible, I mean the killer hasn't used a death recently that has involved heights so it wouldn't shock me if that actually happened." The eldest guest observed the killers recent methods of murder.
"My dear guests! It is now time for the next riddle..." Giles alerted the six remaining guests that it was time to start the next riddle.
The guests along with Giles stood in an awkward silence as nothing followed.

"Haven't you got a card or something?" Brianna asked.
"Oh yes, I almost forgot! The killer wants you all to follow me to the theater room downstairs where the next riddle will take place." Giles gave a smile before turning out of the parlor.
The remaining six guests all followed the British butler and scaled the stairs down to the hallway where the morgue (along with the theater room) is.
-
"Welcome to the Rue Manor theater!" Giles's booming voice welcomed the six guests to the unfamiliar room.
The other guests, however, weren't feeling as cheerful as Giles's act. As six life-size dolls (one for each guest) sat in the six theater chairs of the room. With weird their arms and hands twisted in eerie directions.
The guests all stared in horror as the life-size dolls honestly scared them.
"Please. Stand behind your dolls and watch the screen." Giles instructed the guests to stand behind their robots.
"This is so creepy." Nelson shuddered as he put his hands on the robot's shoulders.
"How could the killer of made these?" Michelle found the eye for detail in dolls almost too good. She didn't understand how the killer could have made all of these, and also know who the final six would be.
The guests stopped their conversation the minute they saw the 'movie' starting.
Upon the old fashioned film screen, text jumped onto the screen.
"Doppelgangers of six. Let's have some fun.
I kill and I kill until I get down to one.
Here's a mind-bending clue for the dummy in you.
Or will the dummy in you have not a clue?
Take notes of double snowman, they will be key.
Just a lift of the lid and you will see."
Abruptly the 'movie' ended, and the curtains surrounding the screen slowly drew inwards.
Dan & Jamie decided to leave the theater and go into the hallway to discuss.
"What the heck is a double snowman?" Dan whispered to Jamie as they whizzed past the other four.
"Well, I'm thinking a snowman's normally cold, what else is cold here. The morgue?" Jamie suggested looking in the ice cold morgue for clues.
Upon looking closely at the morgue, the two found nothing which resembled a double snowman or a clue.
-
Back in the theater room. Reynold, Nelson, Brianna & Michelle started jotting down the points of the riddle they could remember thanks to the notepad Nelson brought with him.
Reynold snatched the pen at one point and drew out a snowman. He noticed any normal snowman would have a curve in the middle.
"It looks like the number eight." Michelle pointed out that the snowman's figure did itself look like the outline of a number eight.
"Eight and eight together are doubled," Michelle said as well.
"Eighty-eight." Nelson took note of the two numbers side by side made the number eighty-eight.
"What are there eighty-eight of in this manor?" Nelson asked his group.
"I have no idea." Reynold shook his head.
"Eighty-eight keys!" Brianna had a eureka moment.
Her other three alliance members looked at her in confusion. They had no idea what she meant by 'eighty-eight keys'.
"A piano has eighty-eight keys!" Brianna exclaimed.
"Oh! You're talking about that black piano in the great room right?" Nelson asked.
Brianna took off "Yeah."
Her three other alliance members followed her as they whizzed out of the hallway and up the stairs to the ground floor.

"Lift of a lid," Michelle said to herself.
At this moment, the alliance couldn't find anything on the piano which would resemble a clue.
"Lift of the lid." Michelle said again before opening the lid of the piano.
Laid out neatly on the keys, eight clues were placed. They each had a long rectangle parcel attached to a tiny note.
"Yes!" Michelle celebrated.
Reynold grabbed his clue first and read the clue.
"No doctor performs this painful task, operate on my myself, you ask?
Slice up your stitches, right to the bone,
find what's inside, it's your clue to home."
"We have to find stitches on ourselves?" Michelle asked, looking around at her arms.
Brianna ripped open her parcel and saw a blue scalpel.
"A scalpel?" Brianna said in confusion, she really didn't want to cut herself with the scalpel because scalpels are sharp!
"I think we have to cut up our doppelgangers." Nelson guessed.
The alliance all took off away from the piano and cascaded down the stairs before returning to the theater room.
-
At this moment, Dan & Jamie had given up from recently looking in the kitchen and decided to search in the great room.
They both were just randomly flipping things over and also checking chests until Jamie found the clue.
"Dan! I got it!" Jamie took off downstairs, immediately understanding that the clue wanted them to cut the doppelgangers with the scalpel.
-
Back in the theater room, it was carnage. Reynold, Brianna, Nelson & Michelle were furiously slashing and stabbing the dolls, looking desperately for clues.
"You guys found anything?" Michelle had to raise her voice because the sound of the stabbing and anarchy was too loud for a quiet voice.
"No." Nelson huffed, he felt agitated that the clue was harder than he originally thought it was going to be.
The group of four continued searching until Dan & Jamie trailed into the theater room (with the scalpels in their hands)
At that point, the four of them took the dolls of their seats and started inspecting every aspect of the doll.
Dan & Jamie decided to work from the bottom of their dolls to the top. They both inspected the legs of their dolls first but didn't find anything.
"Maybe check the back Dan, Natalie had those marks on her back." Jamie encourages his only remaining alliance member.
Dan only nods in response and started ripping open the dolls back with the scalpel. After a few moments of searching through the material, he found no clue.
"Where the hell would it be!?" Dan slowly grew frustrated.
Meanwhile, the other alliance were making better progress.
"Natalie had that found in her head." Michelle whispered to Brianna.
Brianna gave a quick nod before ripping open her dolls head with the scalpel. It turns out that Michelle was right to suspect the head, as the clue was in there.
Brianna quickly skimmed over the clue before walking out the room.
"If these walls could talk, they'd implicate me. A cold blooded killer... no one can see. The place where I dwell is closed off to all. Locate properly, find my hidden wall. You may need your scalpel when you run about. Cut across. Cut down. Cut my heart out."
The olympian also noticed that there was a small, laminated map attached to the clue. The map had been highlighted at a certain point saying 'you are here', other than that there was another point highlighted in blue called 'clue'.
It took the olympian quite a long time to realise the blue part of the map was pointing upstairs to the floor where all the suites were located.
By the time she got to the place that she thought was the blue spot, Michelle & Nelson were right behind her.
"Apparently it should be here." Brianna looked up a piece of wallpaper which was right next to Natalie's suite door.
"It can't be though." Michelle looked back down at her map, she wondered if her team possibly read the map completely wrong.
Suddenly Nelson had an urge, and jabbed his scalpel into the wall, slicing it up and down he noticed there was another room.
"This is another room." Nelson announced to the two girls behind him. Michelle & Brianna both peered in anxiously.
There was, in fact, another room, only dimly lit by a single bulb.
The three all stepped in cautiously. The first thing that they all noticed was a shotgun, attached to a stand in the center of the room. With a green 'shoot' button just below the trigger.
"So she was shot in the head then." Brianna finally realised the factor which actually killed Natalie.
The group circulated around the shotgun and picked up the familiar-looking object from another stand. This time it was the pill bottle of Bliponal, with every label clear to see. Michelle read it out.
"Bliponal offers a peaceful sleep for anyone who struggles with getting the suggested amount of sleep every night. Warning: 3+ pills taken before sleep will result in severe sleepwalking."
"So she slept walked into the room!" Nelson gasped.
"That's crazy!" Michelle gasped as well.
"She literally walked into her death." Brianna said in a low tone.
Suddenly, the Rue Manor bell rang and time was up. For Dan & Jamie, they knew it was most likely going to be the last time they would hear the haunting bell.
The three alliance members all started walking back down the stairs.
"So the gun most have obviously of had a silencer on it because I never heard anything." Michelle said.
"Yeah." Brianna agreed with the redhead.
"So the killer just dragged her down the stairs and into the catapult?" Nelson guessed.
"I think that's what happened." Brianna nodded.
When the three guests all rejoined the rest in the parlor, Giles let the guests know that the dinner was going to be a bit earlier tonight, which intrigued the guests a bit. Other than that he let them know that sharing information was crucial at this stage of the game, as little room for error was vital with not some many people left.
Dan & Jamie made no effort in trying to get information out of the others. They knew once again that the four was a tight pact and that they really couldn't be split up. The two just put their theories together and speculated on who the killer was. The other alliance did this well, but they knew they didn't really have to stress too hard as they knew they would all be spared. They were very confident.
Dan or Jamie (in their eyes) was going to be killed next.

Editor's Note: Someone disable his permission to edit the draft on UnityDocs, please! Hello, I'm McKing and I aim to write an original story with elements I've never seen put together before. Feel free to point out any mistakes you see — I'm not a native speaker, so I'm sure a few will pass me by. Sci-fi; Humor; (Brazilian) Urban Fantasy; faint shades of LitRPG. **Be warned it has a bit of an (absurd) slice-of-life beginning though the story is being subtly (I hope) worked on and eventually shifts gears (a bit). I planned to say that from the beginning, but I forgot to add it.** I hope that you enjoy it and that I can grow as a writer with your contributions. No Fixed Update Schedule. My inspiration comes in bursts and so will the Chapters. Sorry if that displeases you (I love regular updates too), but I'm afraid that's the best I can do for now. Keep in mind that it is a work in progress and things can eventually change a bit - I'll try to always note the changes. Sorry for the bad cover, it was the best my sorry skills could do! I hope you enjoy it,Mcking
