《Chasing a Spikey Relationship》Chapter 3

Your POV
I was fuming. Chase was being such a spoil sport at the moment, and as much as I love his sweet side, I need some raw passion of some sort. Any sort.
He really shouldn't have been surprised that I was trying to awaken Spike more and more often. He was a cardboard box.
It was during these thoughts that Bree came up behind me and asked, "How badly did it go?"
"You were right. It was a terrible idea. He thinks I'm porcelain again."
"Sorry girl. What are you going to do?"
"I don't know yet. It's getting exhausting, you know?"
Something in her pocket started beeping.
"That's Mr. Davenport. He needs me back at the lab for some reason. I'll see you later?"
"Yep. Bye."
I walked alone in silence, my thoughts guiding my feet down the long driveway.
There was a flashing of lights, one blue, one red, and they began to creep closer to me.
I realized that I had walked to the wrong side of the grounds, and began tracing my steps back to where my car was parked.
The flashing lights got closer, but upon closer examination they were the product of a silver machine with a Davenport Industries logo on the hull.
I figured it was nothing to worry about, and proceeded to ignored the high pitched beeping noise it was makong, as well as the cloud of steam coming off of the back of it.
I was almost back to my car when the high beeping turned into a hissing noise, and I turned to see the same machine overloading. I knew enough about technology to know that this thing was going to explode, but despite this I froze in place.
The hull started to shake and rumble with pent-up energy.
Instead of doing what my mind was screaming (run for my life), my body decided that now was the time for rebellion.
As it stepped closer, my brain retreated, leaving the rest of me at the mercy of this machine. For a moment, it stopped moving, then shrapnel exploded outward in a beautiful array of silver, blue, and red-orange. Or, it would have been beautiful, had I not been knocked backward and unconscious by the blow.
