Chapter 27: The Party
Once we got to the party, a lot of people were already there and before we even entered I had a headache from not just the noise but also because of all the thoughts of all the people here.
"Come on. I'm here with you." Lash said squeezing my hand.
I took a deep breathe while squeezing his hand back, then we walked in together. This only made my headache even worse and I couldn't go any further. I stopped, leaning on the wall near the front door.
"Everything ok?" Lash asked worriedly.
"Yeah. Just too many people."
"I'm sorry...is it a headache from all of their thoughts?" he asked placing a hand on the side of my face.
"Yeah...It's fine. I'll just stay here. If that's ok...so that way I can get fresh air when needed." I said smiling to try and calm him.
"Ok. Then I'll stay here with you."
"No. You should go and talk with your friends. I'll be fine."
"That's ok. I can talk to them later. Oh and if you wanna leave early we can go walk to our tree and spend time there ok?"
"Ok." I said smiling as he kissed my lips softly.
"Want something to drink?" he asked placing a hand on my waist.
"Please." I said trying to do my puppy dog face.
"Ok. I'll be right back." he said leaving me alone after kissing my lips again real quick.
"This is unbelievable! How are they together. He can do so much better. Why did he go after her again? She can do better. Why are they together again? He should have left her alone. Pitiful!" All of these thoughts from different people came at me like bullets from a gun.
I just stood against the wall, hoping that this all would end soon. I tried to look for Lash without moving from my spot. I didn't see him but I did see Stronghold and Gwen holding hands and going up the stairs. Lash came back right after with a Pepsi.

"Here you go." he said handing me the Pepsi.
"Thanks." I said forcing a smile.
"What's wrong?" he asked seeing through my act.
"Too many people and too many thoughts...I thought I could do this for you but I'm not sure."
"I'm sorry I should have thought of that before begging you to come here with me. If you leave I won't be mad, just head to our tree and I'll meet you there after talking with a Speed. Ok?" he said rubbing my shoulders.
"Ok." I nodded.
"Good girl. I'm gonna talk with Speed and if your still here we can leave together or you can go head an leave. I'll come find you. I Love You." he said kissing my forehead.
"Thanks. I Love You Too." I said smiling.
He smiled back and patted my head before walking away. I stayed where I was having decided to at least try and finish my drink before leaving....maybe Lash will be back by then. Before long as a started to drink my Pepsi, another thought came to me that was completely separate from the rest.
"Will? Having a party? Why would he have a big party like this and not tell me...or any of us. Does he hate me now? Does he know how I feel?" It seems like that red-haired girl.
Soon the front door opened, and Layla walked in, she was shocked, upset, nervous and everything in between. I knew this wouldn't go well so I decided now would be the best time to leave...and so I did. I left and like I promised Lash I started to walk towards our tree. I really hope everything works out, I want to go back to how it was before Gwen stuck her nose where it didn't belong and all for what?! Some stupid grudge!
I made it to our tree; seemed to take less time than it should have...guess because I was so lost in thought. I leaned up against the tree then slowly slid down it. I let out a long sigh and buried my face in my hands.

"Why does this have to happen during my senior year of high school? These are supposed to be the best days and the best year of my high school, Not the worst." I said out loud to myself...or so I thought.
"Don't think like that. This can still be the best year!" A familiar voice said from right beside me.
"Lash! Don't scare me like that you idiot!" I said slapping his arm.
"Sorry. I walked up panting and out of breathe from running. So I thought you heard me." he said laughing a little.
"You ran here? Why?" I asked shocked.
"Well it's kinda funny. I went to find you but, you weren't there and before I could get out the door. Strongholds' parents came back. So everyone was rushing out of there. So I rushed out and sense I was already running I just ran here." he said smiling as he reached up and grabbed a flower from the tree.
"But it's like 3 football fields to get here!!"
"I know but, I promised to find you...I just want to spend the rest of the night with you. Because I honestly don't know what will happen tomorrow. So I just want to hold you and be with you tonight because this maybe the last time I get to be with you for awhile. But as long as you are safe at the end, then I'm happy." he said placing the flower in my hair and holding me in a tight embrace.
"L...Lash...Don't say that. Everything will be ok." I said hugging him back just as tight and fighting back tears.
"Mary." Lash said softly.
I looked up an into his big brown eyes, I could see that he was sad and fighting back tears but I could also see love and determination that he will never stop loving and protecting me.
"Mary I promise that if I get locked up, that I will never forget you and that I will return for you. I only ask that you wait."
"I'll wait forever if needed. I love you Lash and that won't change you are the only one for me." I said as my tears fell.
"I love you too Mary." he said wiping away my tears and kissing me sweetly.
Once he pulled away he stood up and offered me his hand.
"Let's go. I'll walk you home. You should get some sleep. I know your dad is still upset with me so I'll go before he knows I'm there."
"Lash you can stay. My parents aren't home, so you can stay and hold me until I fall asleep...I want to be with you for as long as I can should something happen tomorrow that makes it where we can no longer be together." I said taking his hand and squeezing it.
"Ok." he said softly squeezing my hand back.
So we walked hand and hand back to my house and shared some leftover baked spaghetti that I made, and then we were in my room on my bed cuddling while watching CSI then when it went off we switched over to Destination Truth. As we watched our shows he ran his hands through my hair and I listen to his steady heartbeat which matched mine. I fell asleep in his warm and protecting arms, I wish tomorrow would never come.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).
