Steve's POV
"Tell us your name." The attorney said and Natasha raised her eyebrow.
"I'm Natasha Romanoff. Also known as the Black Widow." Natasha said and the attorney shock her head.
"Your full name." She said and Natasha sighed.
"I just told you my full name." Natasha said.
"Your birth name then." She said.
"Natalia Alianovna Romanova." Natasha said and the attorney nodded as she changed a page in her file.
"Rumour has it you're related to the earlier tsar Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov ll of Russia. Is that true?" The attorney asked and Natasha furrowed her eyebrows.
"How is that relevant?" Natasha asked.
"Answer the question." The judge said and Natasha sighed.
"I do not know if that's true or not." Natasha said and the attorney nodded.
"Whats your parents names?"
"I do not know." Natasha said.
"Is there anything you do know?" The attorney asked and Natasha nodded.
"Yes I do know a lot of things. I know that Bucky Barnes is innocent." She said and the attorney looked at her.
"Because you have been through similar experiences?"
"The same experiences. Only worse." She said and I tensed a bit.
"You were in the black widow program, correct?"
"Correct." Natasha said.
"How old were you when you first joined?" The attorney asked.
"I think I was around six and I didn't join by free will if that's what you think."
"And you say that you were brainwashed?"
"Yes. Well, I wouldn't use the word brainwashed. I was ripped out as they put someone else inside. I had no choices. I didn't have an own free will." Natasha said. Her voice was steady and cold.
"Why didn't you just leave?" The attorney asked and Natasha cracked up in laughter. She laughed for a bit too long and it almost became awkward. When she was done, I could see the anger in her green burning eyes.
"Why didn't I think of that?" Natasha said, chuckling a bit. "When they hit me, tortured me. Why didn't I just leave?" Natasha said and the attorney became pale, realising she had asked a very stupid question. "Listen very carefully. You have no idea what I've been through and you have no idea how it feels to be replaced. To have someone take away all that is you and put something else there instead. I didn't choose to be raped since the age of seven and I did not choose to become an assassin. The same way that Bucky Barnes didn't choose what happened to him. Bucky Barnes is an innocent good solider turned into a weapon. He needs to get help. Not to be put in a prison or killed for crimes he couldn't control because he wasn't behind them." Natasha said. The whole room was dead quiet and I watched it all intensely.

"I.. I.." The attorney began but she didn't say any words. "You're not innocent." The attorney finally said and Natasha shock her head.
"I'm one of SHIELDs spies. Of course I'm not innocent. And who is actually innocent nowadays?" Natasha said and the judge cleared his throat a bit.
"I think we all could need a recess." He said before slamming his club in the table. Finally Natasha's eyes met mine. She breathed out heavily and I nodded.
"Thank you." I mouthed.
Natasha's POV
"Do you think they'll consider it?" I asked and Steve nodded.
"I'm pretty sure you convinced most of them. Thank you. Really." He said as he held his arms around my waist. I nodded. I tried smiling a bit.
"Can't we do something tonight? I just want to escape all of this for a few hours. People talk." I said and Steve nodded.
"What about one of those road trips we always do?" Steve asked and I chuckled.
"You mean those who always end up bad?" I asked and he nodded with a smile.
"Precisely." He said.
"Let's do it." I said and he smiled.
A few hours later, we got into the car and I looked at Steve.
"Which way?" I asked and he smirked.
"I have actually decided a way." He said and I raised my windows.
"Really?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yup." He said and I smirked.
"So where are we going Captain?" I asked and he smiled.
"You'll see."
They drove for a long while. At least long enough for the sun to set and the moon to rise. The sky was black and full of stars. Steve suddenly parked the car near a hill. I looked at Steve who held some things in his hands.
"What are we doing?" I asked with a smile and he just smiled back.
"Follow." He said.
We walked up the hill and Steve put out a big blanket and some wine. I smiled.
"Aren't you a romantic?" I said and Steve looked up.

"Oh this is just the beginning." He said with a smirk as he picked out some treats and a little speaker. He put on some low music and I just stood there, watching him fix everything. He stood up, observing what he had made. He looked at me and smiled.
"I know that this is very old fashioned, but will you dance with me?" He asked and I smiled.
"Of course." I said and he smiled.
I took his hand as he lead me away from the blanket a bit to the grass, giving us a little space to dance around on. He took my hand in his and wrapped his other one around my waist.
"I'm so sorry for everything Natasha. I haven't been able to think clearly lately." He said and I hushed him a little.
"Stop it. No one has. It's not all on you." I said and he nodded a little.
"I just.." He said as he twirled me one time. "I just think about those 10 months. With everything going on right now, those 10 months were the worst months in my life." He said and I sighed.
"I didn't enjoy it either." I said with a smile and he chuckled.
"It just, it made me realise how much I love you." He said with half a smile.
"I love you too." I said and smiled. "I really do." I said.
"That's good because it will probably make this a lot easier." He said as he stepped down on one knee, still holding my hand.
"Steve, what are you doing?" I asked nervously as he stood there in front of me, on one knee, holding my hand.
"I used to care about so much. My past, my future, my job, my opinions. But now, I've realised that I'd put it all aside, for you. All I care about is you Natasha. It's so crazy how we even got into this situation but I've never been so sure of a decision like I am of this one." He said as he picked out a little box from his pocket. He smiled a little.
"I never want to leave you. Not even for a second. It hurts as fast as I am away from you so please, don't make me go away. Don't ever push me away because you won't even be able too. I love you too much. Natasha, will you marry me?" He said as he opened the box, revealing a beautiful diamond ring. I swallowed hard, looking at him.
"Yes. Yes I will." I said with a slight sob in my throat that I was ashamed of.
"I really do." I said with a smile and Steve smiled brightly, putting the ring on my finger and embracing me with the tightest hug and a long kiss. I smiled so brightly, holding my hands in his cheeks as I kissed him hard.
We suddenly began dancing again and I laid my head on his chest, dancing close to him. He had his hand pressed on my back and held my hand softly.
A same kind of feeling I had felt before slowly came back. It sneaked inside my skin and into my blood, traveling through my entire body.
Happiness.
And love.
A lot of love.

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations! For writing a story during the month of November, you have unlocked the Royal Road Writathon Participant path!

Disclaimer of sorts: I am non-native English writer that used to write mostly for himself. After my last computer decided to die on me taking all my works with it I lost the desire to write for quite a long time. This is my attempt to go find motivation to write again as this was my favourite hobby. The idea is to be held accountable. As for being non-native, I don't believe that should be a major issue as I feel my proficiency in English to be sufficient enough to not be too much of the distraction. That said, be forewarned that the rules governing punctuation are beyond my grasp. All I can do is try not to completely suck at that. As mentioned this is an attempt to motivate me to write again so any message, encouragement or constructive criticism will go long way.
