Kara's POV
"Just be careful. Her feelings get hurt easily!" I said, turning to Lena and smiling. She gave me a glare before turning back to the conversation that I had interrupted. I listened for my moment to come in and stop her from a rant that was inevitably about to happen.
"The crime rate is going up, criminals are all over the streets these days."
"That doesn't matter. We need to tell these people that there isn't anything to worry about. I'm sure those new vigilantes can take care of the criminals." Here comes her rant. I have just learnt to accept that people call Lena and me vigilantes but she has a certain opinion about it.
"Sam! The word vigilante implies..." I cut her off with a hand on the shoulder. She looked at me and nodded. "We have to go. See you later?" She nodded and we walked out of her apartment. Lunch with Sam was nice but we needed to get back to work soon.
"Alex, are you coming?" The brunette was staring at nothing so I put an arm around her.
"Sorry, yeah."
"I'm not letting you into surgery if you are going to zone out halfway through."
"I'll be fine. Let's just get this done." I noticed a tear roll down her cheek.
"Why are you so worried about this? It's no different to any other surgery we have done in the past. The guy is basically fine."
"Exactly. Nothing to worry about, right?" I grabbed some gloves and squeezed them onto my hands. Alex did the same and we walked into the room. Daniel was awake when we arrived.
"Dr Danvers..." I heard a whisper from him as I tried to put the mask on to put him under.

"Yes?" I said.
"Will it hurt?"
"No, you won't feel a thing." I lied. I knew this surgery could go anywhere. Anything could happen, he could wake up or the anesthesia could put him to sleep permanently. The risk of surgery was that anything could go wrong and all of the surgeons had to be aware of that. I told him to count to ten but he only got to three when he fell asleep.
"You lied to him, Kara." I nodded and grabbed the tools needed for the surgery. I stared at the monitors and waited for them to be at the right spot for us to start the surgery.
"He's under," I stated and looked up at Alex. She took a deep breath and looked back at me.
"Let's do this."
Four hours of surgery later and we were just getting to the main problem.
"Alex, grab me a syringe." She gave it to me and I used it to draw the fluid from a cyst on his spine. "We weren't told of this, were we?"
"No. Just like..." Another tear fell down her cheek. I furrowed my brow, trying to think of what might be bothering her.
"Like what? Alex if you are distracted..."
"I'm not! It's just. The majority of this surgery is what we had to do... to you." She looked down. My mouth parted in the shape of an 'oh'. I couldn't speak. After she stormed out, I just stayed silent while I fixed the last of the poor man's fragile spine. When I had finished, I told one of the doctors behind me to stitch everything up.
I ran to catch up with Alex. "Where do you think you are going?" She was just reaching the lift.

"Leaving. I couldn't handle being there. We had to fix a guy's fractured spine. The exact same discs that you broke." I closed my eyes and breathed out. "I don't know if I'll be able to help you with any surgeries that are similar to what Lena and I had to do to fix you."
"Alex, you are just shaken b everything. Trust me, I am still traumatized by being awake during that surgery. But I understand."
"Wait. You never told me you woke up. You..." She took a step back and covered her mouth with a hand. "You woke up?"

Rogue Dungeon: A LitRPG Adventure
From James A. Hunter, author of Viridian Gate Online and War God's Mantle! Check out my first attempt at a Dungeon litRPG Novel! Roark von Graf—hedge mage and lesser noble of Traisbin—is one of only a handful of Freedom fighters left, and he knows the Resistance’s days are numbered. Unless they do something drastic … But when a daring plan to unseat the Tyrant King goes awry, Roark finds himself on the run through an interdimensional portal, which strands him in a very unexpected location: an ultra-immersive, fantasy video game called Hearthworld. He can’t log out, his magic is on the fritz, and worst of all, he’s not even human. Now, he’s a low-class, run-of-the-mil Dungeon monster. Some disgusting, blue-skinned creature called a Troll. At least there’s one small silver lining—Roark managed the grab a powerful magic artifact on his way through the portal, and with it he might just be able to save the world after all. Unless, of course, the Tyrant King gets to him first …Hey everyone, so as most of you know, I write books for a living, and I just put this title up on Amazon (and enrolled it in KU). Because KU requires exclusivity as part of their terms of service, I have had to pull the majority of the content from this site. I left the full novel up for as long as possible, so I hope everyone got a chance to read it. If you haven't had a chance to read it in its entirety (sorry!) you can pick it up on Amazon. Thanks again for coming on this journey with me, and I so hope you enjoyed it. The book will be out on Tuesday July 24th. Best, James Hunter

Ebony Chitin - Adventures of The Hive
Ebony Chitin - Adventures of The Hive is a story centered around a Hive mind bug elf, and her favorite human-dwarf mutt Richard. The story will shift perspectives between the two, as well as other members of the Hive. Follow along on their adventures for; the friends they make, the enemies they slay, and the questions they seek to answer. Thank you for reading, as always. ^.^ Afterword: Hello there everyone, and welcome back those that have already read the first story. If you are new, don't worry too much about the first step of the series. Truly, this second part aims to cover most of what was done there. Those that have read it will know a few secrets and plot points before we see them. Though it shouldn't detract from your reading of this one. Honestly, the first one was a bit rough, but do as you will. I will warn that this will tackle some serious topics and might end up getting rather explicit in terms of what is done or seen by the characters. There is a bit to cover, so I'll explain what I can between chapters without overloading anyone, hopefully. -Cover Art drawn by Cozie [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
