《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 1

Katie moved in her chair beside Winn, noticing how he kept tapping his fingers against his thigh, "You gonna ask her on a date today or something?"
"What!?" Winn exclaims, startled at how Katie was suddenly beside him, "N-no, why would I as Kara out?"
Katie raised an eyebrow, standing from her seat, she leaned against his desk, "I've known you since we escaped the womb, plus, I never told you who the 'her' was." Winn's face turns red and he smacks Katie in the arm, standing when he notices Kara enter the building. "Now look you're welcoming your owner home, should I get you a bone?"
Winn turned and glared at her as he approached Kara, he walked by her side, keeping up, while Katie basically skipped beside them, "Did you see this? There was an armored car robbery last night. There were no witnesses except for this homeless guy who swears the perp had horns."
Katie grabbed the package for Kara, handing it to her, "Thanks."
"Horns?" Katie questions, her eyebrows scrunching together, her attention focused on Winn, "Like, on his head?"
"Yes!" Winn says full of excitement, "I'm telling you, they're out there. Aliens!"
Kara released a small laugh, almost panicked, "Winn, there is no such thing as aliens."
"Well, you might feel differently if you read this website."
Katie pursed her lips, chuckling, "Winn, you write that website." Her statement made Kara giggle.
"I-" Winn stutters trying to find his words, "I contribute." Katie twirled back into her seat, watching Winn's nervousness unfold, "Hey, um, I was wondering if maybe you wanna... I don't know, go see, go see a movie tonight."
"I-I can't I'm sorry." Kara glanced over at Katie, inhaling deeply, "I have a date."
"Date really?"
"Mmm." Katie hummed, turning back to her work, twisting the pen in her hand like a mini sai.
"That's great... Fun. Dating is fun." Katie covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing, "Who-who is that with?"
"It's an online date. Says we are 82% compatible, so... Should be good."
"You-you know that you can't quantify emotions based on an algorithm?"
Katie snorts, placing her pan back on her desk, "Winn, you're IT, isn't your whole life based on algorithms?"
"Yes, so if there was an algorithm for love I think that I would know about it." Winn answers Katie, turning his attention back to Kara, "It's just like you're gonna know when it hits you, Kara. It'll be all "Wah-pow"."
Katie opened her mouth in an 'o', suddenly noticing how Kara spaced off, "Kara?"
"She's here."
Katie stood abruptly, smiling at the entrance of the elevator, "How on earth do you do that?"
"Good Morning Miss Grant." Kara musters out, not having the time to answer Katie, even though either Katie or Winn would ask her every time.
"The only reason I bought this building was because it had a private elevator. That way, I don't have to get soaked in cheap cologne every morning, getting to my office. Find out who used it, have them reprimanded, or bathed, I don't care which."
Katie and Winn glanced at one another, rolling their eyes getting back to work, "Real smooth Winn."
"Shut up Katherine."
"Call me by my full name again." Katie snaps, throwing her pen his way. "You know I hate my full name."

"Still do not understand why it's a very pretty name."
"Twins Winslow and Katherine Schott." Katie mumbles, "Nope, don't like it, your name, on the other hand, is a lot worse than mine, but our parents could have at least thought up better names."
"I like my name."
"Sure you do." Katie smirks, noticing Kara leave Cat's office, "Kara-"
Kara moved over to them, "Talk later, Katie, remember to be at my apartment later."
"Aye, aye."
Winn watches her as she goes off, doing whatever the hell Cat asked for, "Wait." He faces Katie again, "Why would she want you over at her apartment?"
"To help her with her date." Katie answers.
"You already knew, why didn't you stop me earlier."
Katie raised an eyebrow, "Have you met me?" She released a short laugh, "Watching you crash and burn was the highlight of my day."
"Oh? When was the last time you went on a date or had a boyfriend?"
"Touche." Katie holds her hand out, opening and closing it a couple time before Winn gave her the pen back, "Now back to work, before Miss Grant rips our heads off."

Katie walked up to Kara's apartment, waving at Alex, "Hey!"
"Oh, hey Katie." Alex smiles, "Roped in as well?"
"You know me." Katie waved her hand, matching Alex's stride, "Always gotta help a friend."
Alex looks down at her, "That is why I'm so glad you two are such good friends."
Katie knocks at Kara's door, "And that's gonna stay that way."
Alex suddenly went to a very serious face when Kara opened the door, "I have a conference in Geneva and I need to be on a plane in 2 hours."
"And I have a blind date in half an hour and I need you to help me pick out what to wear." Kara says in exasperation, "I win."
"Why do you do this to me?" Alex grins, walking into the apartment, "And Katie."
"Because you're my sister." Kara ushered Katie in, "And you both love me."
"Mm." Katie shuts her mouth, "You're right."
Kara clapped her hands, "See, I can be right sometimes."
Alex glanced back at the two, "Not always, that's very slim."
Katie hops on the bed, "How about I go and order some food? The phone is in the kitchen right?"
"Yes, make it something with dumplings please."
Alex snorts, "That means she wants Chinese."
"Oh, I know." Katie walks off leaving the sisters to converse without her hearing. She tapped her foot against the ground, the phone pressed against her ear, "Hi, I'd like to order takeout."
By the time Katie got back she noticed that Alex had gone and Kara was struggling to fix her hair, "Katie, help please."
Katie walked over to Kara, taking the hair tie and placing it on the counter, "Leave it down." She shook Kara's head so her hair poofed out a little, she stared down at her face, tilting her head slightly, "Hmm."
"Hmm?" Kara questions, "What does that mean?"
Katie parted Kara's hair so most of it fell on the left side of her face, "Nothing, just contemplating and feeling a sense of jealousy with how gorgeous you currently look."
"Really?" Kara looked at herself in the mirror, "Gorgeous?"

"How many times do I have to tell you?" Katie leaned so she was Kara's level, "You are stunning, any guy should want you."
"Thanks so much Katie, what would I do without you?"
"Crash and burn." Katie claps her hands together, "So I will be staying here until you get back, and we'll eat that food together."
"Yes, okay, that sounds great." Kara stood from her seat, "Don't touch the dumplings while I'm gone."
"Don't tempt me."
A few hours late, Katie sat in the apartment watching T.V. when Kara suddenly came in covered head to toe in water. She flung up from her spot, staring, eyes wide at Kara.
"What in the-What happened to you?"
"Tripped."
"Into the ocean?"
Kara shook her head, "Well-I-uh-I fell in a fountain while getting back home."
"A fountain?"
"Yeah." Kara scratched the back of her head, "Can we eat now?"
"Uh, sure, you want to get cleaned first?"
"Y-yeah. Start without me, just not the dumplings."
Katie nodded slowly, watching Kara disappear into her bathroom, she moved to the kitchen, when her phone buzzed.
Hey, Katie, if you're at Kara's apartment could you leave? I just need to talk with her in private.
-Alex
"Oh..." She quickly typed a response, "Hey! Kara! I got to head out, but we're eating this together at work tomorrow!"
"OKAY!"
♕~♕~♕~♕~♕~♕
Katie stared up at the screen, "Doesn't that look like Kara?"
"What?" Winn glanced at her, "No, well... Kind of."
"Huh."
"Pretty cool, huh?" Kara questions, startling Katie, causing the young brunette to jump in her seat.
"A plane-saving lady?" Winn shrugs, "How is the world supposed to take her seriously if she can't even come up with a suit? What... Metropolis gets him and what does National City get? Some rookie superhero?"
"Or an awesome new superhero. She could be just starting off." Katie defended, making Kara smile slightly. Katie pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose, noticing that Kara had already left the siblings with each other, "So her date went bad."
"Oh..."
"Don't act like you're not happy about that." Katie lightly pushed him, sitting on his desk, "That still does not mean you have a chance, especially since you always sound like a friend asking a friend to hang out when you ask her on dates."
"That-That-"
Kara approached the twins, "I need to talk to you both on the roof."
"The roof?" Winn queries, pulling at the collar of his shirt.
"Why?"
"Just hurry."
Katie and Winn give each other the same skeptical look before following Kara, who was already way ahead of them both.
Katie took off her glasses and cleaned the lenses, head down as she kept a close pace behind Winn until the couple was on the roof. Winn became uneasy as he noticed how high he was up.
"Hey, uh, just whatever you have to say, can you make it quick? I'm not really into being this high up."
"Okay, um, Winn," Kara suddenly turns to Katie, "Katie, I'm going to tell you something about me that only three people in my life know. Can I trust you both?"
"Yeah, uh, yeah."
"Of course, Kara, with anything."
"Good. Um, I just... I really want someone to be excited for me. And I, um..." Kara paced back and forth, fidgeting with her hands, and sweater ends, "Right, how to do... Uh, there's something about me that for most of my life, I've run from it. But last night, I embraced who I am and I don't want to stop."
"Oh, my God, you're a lesbian. Oh, Kara, that's why you're not into me. This is, this is great news!"
Katie turned to her brother, "She's not gay, Winn."
"No! I mean, yes to what Katie said, no to... Winn..." Kara scratched the back of her head, "I'm..." She extended her arms, "I'm her."
"Okay..." Katie sputters out.
"The woman who saved the plane!"
Winn chuckles in her face, "Okay. Yeah, okay. Right."
Kara releases an exasperated sigh, before turning her heels, and heading to the edge of the building, Katie moved after her, "Kara, what are you doing? Hey, Kara!"
"Hey, get away from the ledge, you're gonna get hurt."
Kara smiles before falling backward off the building, making both twins scream out, "KARA! Hey!"
Suddenly, Kara came flying back and landing behind the both of them, leaving them flabbergasted, "You're..." They struggled to breathe, "You're her."
"Yep." Kara chuckles, but you could hear how out of breath she was.
"We're making you a suit." Winn and Katie say in unison, making Kara laugh out loud.
♕~♕~♕~♕~♕~♕
Katie messed with the sewing machine, "I think that suit is crap."
"What? It's great." Winn waved her off, "So, how is it? Huh? How does it fit?"
Kara awkwardly walks into the room, clearly uncomfortable, "I'm not flying around saving people in this thing. I... I wouldn't even wear it to the beach. Where's my cape?"
"Capes are lame. Tell your cousin I said so."
"Let's not tell the man with super strength that," Katie says through her teeth. She tosses some clothes at her, "Try the one I made."
"Will do." Kara quickly exited the room, glad to get the items off of her body.
Katie walked over to Winn and flopped herself beside him on the couch, "Did you make her half naked on purpose?"
"Huh? Wha-No?"
Katie grabbed his ear, yanking him to her face, "Repeat that again, but this time the truth."
Winn gulped, "Uh... Maybe."
She released him, scoffing, "You're a pig."
Kara clears her throat, she opens her arms up to allow them to get a good view. Winn inhales sharply, when Kara takes her glasses off, "Oh. Kara, you look really pretty without your glasses."
"Winn." Kate snaps.
"So, uh... To be a superhero you need a crime. I hacked into the NCPD. There's a car chase on the 112 freeway."
"I can do a car chase."
Katie flinched watching the street security cam, "Ouch."
"A cape aids with aerodynamics, I should have thought of that."
"West National City Bank. Reporting a 432. Sixth and Spring. Suspects are armed and dangerous."
Katie grimaces, "So... uh... You sure you're bulletproof?"
"Hope so."
Katie held up the cape, looking at Winn through the bullet holes, "Jesus."
"All right, the new cape is made from a structured polymer composite. It's much sturdier than... And, uh... This one has the "S." For "Super," just like your cousin."
Kara looks at herself in the mirror, "It's not an "S". It's my family's coat of arms. The House of El."
"Four-alarm fire at Gates and Igle."
Katie pursed her lips, "I'm assuming you can't catch on fire."
♕~♕~♕~♕~♕~♕
Katie and Winn quickly caught up with Kara, a couple days after the team assembled, "Uh, if... If I believe the comments on the website, they mentioned a 'Female/reptilian boxing match in the desert.'"
"I'll tell you all about it at our next crime-fighting lunch hour."
"Wait, so the Super Friends are back?"
Katie cringed, "We are not calling ourselves that."

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.
